S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Megathread: "A Typical Day In The Zone"

Why does anyone even follow Kotaku?
Also, I am hoping that Wormwood will provide a certain level of realism, but not so far as Misery.
Misery is a buttfuck on bullshit levels, and it's not fun.
But he doesn't even mention complete. The only talk about mods is him saying that he uses a combination of different mods with AMK.
People will compare their first playthrough to this article and be linked to the mod he used here, this being Complete. I might be wrong, might just be some random mod that uses Complete UI, but I'm almost certain the writer was playing said mod and may recommend it to his readers at one point, too.

87% (Counting anyone who rated a 7+ on the mod, thus 'liked' it) accounts to at least 1582 people who enjoyed MISERY. It sure stands for it's name, that's why it's so damn hard. Mods come in different tastes and just like anything else, it may not be suited to your taste but that doesn't necesseraly make the mod bullshit.
Not trying to defend my old work, but lets be fair. If the same was said about wormfood, I'd have said the exact same.

Misery was less realistic, it was objectively unfair and frustrating, alone by giving NPCs 0.5 Immunity to everything, while you get the full damage. Then there also is xray enemies and ridiculous amounts of psy mutants at crucial locations, making progressing very bloody hard. Even Clear Sky is less bullshit than that.
Hopefully wormwood doesn't go crazy with requiring gas mask filters. Filters last a good while unless you are actively exposing them to gas.
No, there isn't. Enforced it
Damn. Thanks for the info.

There is a difference between Misery and struggling but having a willing to go on. Misery just makes you want to quit due to the level of bullshit, whereas more balanced mods feel difficult in a balanced and addicting way.
*edit* "being miserable"
not the mod name itself

No offence but the MISERY fanbase is equal to the fanbase of complete in terms of 'GET STALKER AND INSTALL THIS RIGHT AWAY' and then thinking misery is the only mod worth noticing and playing
I'm not saying it's a terrible mod but a lot of morons are just blinded by the publicity you guys have aswell as the sheer amount of items.

Going to the iron forest just to see a ridiculous amount of mutants there is the biggest load of shit possible

I got to Pripyat and I ran out of steam, not because I wasn't playing good (Because most people when faced with an overbearing difficulty tend to adapt to it. And don't mind being punished if they fuck up.) But because everything costed so fucking much to repair and other things and I was being arbitrarily punished for jack shit. In the end I put it down because I literally couldn't take being paid in jackshit roubles but when I needed repairs "HUrr durr 30k".

There's just something about it that keeps me coming back, though. I'm not sure what it is, I enjoy the extra clutter items since it adds a bit of variety to looting. I like how Redux does that as well, so you're not always picking up the same 3-4 things from people. I'm not really sure what else to play, since most of the bigger mods are in development for their first release or their next one.
What's the best SGM version to use at the moment? Didn't that get an update recently?
I liked the PDAs and Photographs you could find on corpses. 'Twas just a shame they could only put a finite amount of them in there.
I always wondered if a level progression system would work in STALKER.

You're welcome to try it. #2 there.
STALKERs greatest strength is the abscence of exactly that. The mechanics are based on you having to get better equipment and artifacts, leaving everything else up to your individual capabilities. Level progression is outdated anyway imo. In most cases it is just a very lazy way to pace a game.

the fuck am i reading
since when was stalker based on survival? did this retard even play the game?
I actually kind of have an idea...Would anyone here play a roguelite(like) STALKER mod based on Freeplay Start or (more likely) Doom's Mod Merge?
I have some ideas on how it'd work.

Misery is just artifical difficulty city and doesn't understand the core of what makes Stalker great which is the personality of the zone. No amount of guns or gadgets will enhance the game in any good way.
I can't tell if Misery or Complete is the Brutal Doom of STALKER, but they seem to stir up just as much drama and complaining. Everyone has a different vision for what they want the Zone to be, doesn't matter what they play in an SP game.

I like the idea of having a chaotic experience.
Being ambushed or kidnapped when you are sleeping and taken to a random location in the zone in which you are forced to fight your way out of a particularly shitty situation.
Randomly generated monster and npc spawns of varying difficulty.
Some kind of a fucked up thing that constantly chases you everywhere while being extremely hard to kill like in this creepypasta: http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Jvk1166z.esp
Stuff like hallucinogenic mushrooms and other items with amusing effects.
Key storyline npc's and valuable items being scattered in dangerous locations, kind of like in stalker soup's the collector.
A roguelike along the lines of DoomRL or something would be amazing.

I don't understand, he didn't even mention Complete. He said he uses AMK, and recommends LURK and one other (non Complete) mod. It was actually a fairly decent article for Kotaku.
Really for MISERY the things I liked the most was the graphics (I honestly thought all that brown looked pretty good on STALKER, and the textures were nice) and that stuff that was good actually was rare and most of the time unless I was really lucky I wouldnt have really good gear right away. I liked having to manage my finances well and stash away as many rubles as possible.
Also the way that MISERY quantified armor properties was interesting and pretty immersive. Instead of just "psy +1" or just a bar, it gave you figures like that this upgraded gas mask gives you psy protection up to a 25 militesla psy field, or that this suit is rated up to 5.56 NATO in the chest. I think mods would be a lot more immersive if they did that.
Games in general dont really quantify stats for things most of the time, things just use arbitrary units.

Except Brutal Doom a really well made mod. Even if you take in mind how big of a moron Sergeant_Mark_IV is.
While I can't speak the same for Complete and Misery.

Aye. I forgot about that, indeed.
Whelp
Misery is well coded and all it's just the design choices that are arguable.
Hey guys. I posted this in another popular STALKER spot - looking for anyone who speaks Russian to clarify somethings that were said on an ex-GSC employees forum, who also happens to be the Vostok Community manager. He talks about why STALKER 2 will never come to light, and posts excerpts of an interview with the author of Metro 2035, who apparently mentions the new Metro game.
The author of Metro 2035 did an interview a couple days ago, and he mentioned something about the new Metro game. Here is a link to the article, which was linked from 4A Games official vk page.
http://www.exgsc.com/?p=2682
Use google translate if you don't speak Russian - basically the author says something about the next Metro game being 2 years off still?
Does anyone here speak Russian, since machine translation is typically garbage and I' really like to know exactly what he said.
Also FWIW, the blog linked above is a blog from the Vostok community manager, and last month who wrote a long blog post about STALKER 2 and how we shouldn't hold our breath for it. (sad face)
Here is the link to that article as well: http://www.exgsc.com/?p=2621

Agreed. If people get emotional over what mods other people enjoy or prefer it's really time to evaluate one's priorities.

1. With huge luck we'll have a new Metro game in 2 years. But most likely it will take more time to wait.
2. Regarding Stalker 2 - the main reason why it still not in development is no people to work on it.
S2 was frozen in 2011 so it's also dated as hell and if they continue - better make it from scratch.
About GSC return - Eugen Grigirovich (brother of Sergei) is a project leader now and he is the main person behind all the RTS games from GSC.
So can expect announce of Cossacks 3 really soon. And maybe next Heroes of Annihilated Empires game.

Damn! I was hoping for some info\screens\trailer for a new Metro early this year - ah well.....good things come to those who wait.
And yeah I figured GSC was just making a cossacks 3 - STALKER 2 was a long shot.
