lose the ridiculous story and all illuminutty related content, fix the a-life in the maps, that's about it from me
Personally, the maps felt very empty and the fetch quests felt frustrating. Mind you, this isn't just LA, ShoC also suffered from "go to place, kill shit, come back for reward" but at least the a-life was more active or felt more active because the maps were honestly small and you inevitably bumped into cells of NPCs, mutant or no. LA's maps felt larger and also emptier because I didn't find much of anything. It more accurately reflects the canon explanation of 300 stalkers or so, but for gameplay reasons it's a bad choice. I believe this is not Dezo's fault, however. They wanted to portray the alpha version, and maybe they portrayed it very accurately, showing why shit was scrapped and the current ShoC came out instead?
lose the ridiculous story and all illuminutty related content, fix the a-life in the maps, that's about it from me
Open up the maps too, or give a more logical explanation as to why you're choked as to where you can go other than "lol logging in progress!!!" - that was jarring.
The biggest problem with LA is that it was nowhere near what people expected. People were hoping for huge ass map with loads of AI and life. Instead what they got was a mediocre story and empty huge maps
;48274746']I believe this is not Dezo's fault, however. They wanted to portray the alpha version, and maybe they portrayed it very accurately, showing why shit was scrapped and the current ShoC came out instead?
The lack of A-Life in the maps isn't just because of design, an anon at /vg/'s /sg/ opened up the maps in SoC's LE and found that the smart_terrains were broken and so were the A.I nodes for the terrains, so the A-Life never really traveled anywhere because the camps spawn on the spot of the gulags where their destination is, so even A.I that exists won't really contribute to the liveliness of the levels because you so rarely, if ever see hostile A-Life traveling. Further, there are camps of stalkers around the Zone, but they're unfortunately pretty much all friendly or neutral so firefights happen really rarely, which is a huge shame.
lose the ridiculous story and all illuminutty related content, fix the a-life in the maps, that's about it from me
I was okay with some parts of the story, but the illuminati stuff is really ridiculous, and some of the scenes were mind-bogglingly stupid, like in [sp]Dead City you'll miss the entirety of an awesome firefight because you're restricted to your cell for the whole duration of it, which is completely retarded and absolutely kills the replay value.[/sp] Similarly in Army Warehouses [sp]a Blowout kills the entire Merc base before you get to do anything[/sp] which takes player agency, and thus the investment out of the gameplay. Then it's back to 4-5 hours of fetch quests across the global map where you don't even shoot anybody.
Voicing your opinion on LA is the equivalent of "boasting your inflated ego" these days.
I agree, showering them in senseless hate isn't really constructive criticism. [editline]derp[/editline]
What does LA need other than a proper story?
A massive fix to world simulation, failsafes to the story(basically "official" ways to sequence break so you don't always have to plough through the same sections of the story in the same order), some choice with who you're helping in terms of Factions so you can complete some missions in a different way and more combat against humans in missions.
Voicing your opinion on LA is the equivalent of "boasting your inflated ego" these days. Dez and his team have it rough. Wish I could help them out. Now for a question to all of you; What does LA need other than a proper story? It's hype died out quickly, I must say. For instance, few suckers are still commenting on Complete's page and praising it as the jezus of STALKER mods.
Regardless of my feelings on complete I'd say the hype dying out was kind of deserved. I mean some of the devs on release resorted to touting issues as features (lack of A-Life because "that's how the zone should be") and even some personal attacks to people who were simply asking why there was a lack of a-life or why the plot was so linear and barred exploration, why the world was so devoid of even loot to find, or any criticism really. That being said, whoever worked on the map visuals should be commended and it's really fucking sad to see them not used in any other mods because they are so god damn beautiful.
Personally the only thing I think LA needs is Freedom. Because y'know they were no where to be found except for one map doing jack shit.
So its been a few days but I got custom content working in the game finally. I just need to fix their broken smoothing. The SDK seems to break it, any advice from anyone? So dez send me this. I asked him to type out what needed to be done in a pm.
dezodordezodor 22hours 21mins ago says: Hey! Sorry for my comment if it turned out to be a bit harsh, I did not mean to post it like that, was just a bit surprised because we never talked like that before. I'm at a conference now, will write in smaller portions when I have a little time, and continue it at home. What was done since 1.3003: Dezowave.com + will add dx11 and the rest which was added lately What else needs to be done: - need to find more helping hands to fill the remaining 2 big levels (stancia, and countryside) with more mutants, I've already doubled the amount on the other levels with the help of vintar before he left us. I'm ok in sdk, but a bit lame for doing the gulag scripts, I'd make more bugs than goodies. - previous one only counts the mutants, we havent touched the amount of npc-s yet, I only changed the respawn speed, from seldom to medium or fast, plus I added several respawns where I havent seen any, so more groups will respawn. - vintar added several groups (2 to 4 per level) which move from A to B randomly after certain amount of time - we made that after actor reaches stancia, most of the restricted alife opens up, and npcs will go to the north, it needs to be finetuned because sometimes it produces a bit of madness.. some people want it, others wouldnt like it - we need to finish porting vincent's weather to main LA branch, because he has his own version of LA at the moment, but it contains too many custom stuff which we don't want to use, so we will only keep his weather... and need to finetune the dynamic weather system as well, as its not working efficient - we need to check the scenes again, we already disabled most of the 2nd storyline which lox added (about the noosphere, oters see it as illuminati, but its actually different) only kept the ghost scenes, which we still like even if animations arent looking that good. its ok for a free project. - id like to add back the npc humming and whistling which we had in 2012-2013 builds, but later it was disabled due to a conflict with the new kamper scheme (which was a mixture of kamp and walker scheme).... it felt cool, something like in Thief1 - need to finish the new wpn upgrading system, which still has lame gui compared to the old we had, but at least it works ok - would need to make lots of simple sidetasks like in other stalker games, just for fun Thats all Thanks for your help, we really need it, because due to summer holidays our older members are all away with their family, and I would not want to wait till september if we could work on it in the meantime, we could almost finish it by october or november.
Seems like everyone is leaving his team. Vintar is also gone, but I never liked him. Arrogant asshole
Jesus, just let it die already.
Jesus, just let it die already.
I feel sorry for him, though.
Jesus, just let it die already.
It's not easy to let go of your own project
It's not easy to let go of your own project
Even when the only thing they managed to recreate is the SoC release fiasco?
I don't see why he should let it die, I mean they may have fallen short of the mods vision on initial release but they still did some really great work on the world and engine, I see not reason to tell him to just give it up if he and others are still willing to work on it and improve it. It may never be the one true mod that some hoped but it could still shape up pretty decently, even if it's just as a resource for other mods to build upon or take from.
I just want those maps out there for modders to use. I'm surprised no one has started doing anything with them yet.
Jesus, just let it die already.
But if he's telling the truth, they literally are left with two maps to fill A-life with, and once you get to the end A-life tries to travel to the north That sounds pretty cool and exactly like what LA was missing. I'd play that (even if i had to wait for a freeplay mod to strip out the story)

Hey stalkers, I'm thinking of giving MISERY a second try. Last time I played it the balancing made it come across less like a realism overhaul and more of a difficulty mod. Anyone here try MISERY 2.1, if so, any comments on it? I'm downloading it right now, eager to see how much the changes have improved it. (Last version I played of it was like 1.6)

Between the two of them you get a lot of extra weapons, armor etc but the difficulty curve is eased a bit.
Just some daily content shit. Working on the P90's animations. Please don't mind how hunched up the shoulders are, I can't seem to rotate/relax them properly and if anyone can help that would be great. But ingame it should not be visible as I am animating this in a way to avoid any issues. Also I know the finger position looks a bit messy but ingame you won't notice but I wanted to show off the posing so far anyway. This P90 is from Build 1935, if you ever extracted the SHOC resources you may have found a half-finished version of this very gun! Wont tell you where some of the good ones are, but ill say whats among them Custom full condition AKM full condition toz 66 full condition stechkin APS probably some other custom pistols Flame artifact 2 or 3 pistol repair kits Shotgun repair kit cleaning kits for rifles, pistols, and shotguns high tier cooking stove thing fuel for the stove loads of ammo enough food to last you a long time lots and lots of smokes and weed bunch of armor attachment things like kevlar, camelbak and aluminum racks And thats just zaton, there is more in yanov. Also kill mercs for some good weapons, if you loot the stashes with repair kits and cleaning kits, you can occasionally find something real nice at half condition and repair it. Also NPCs will carry variants of weapons you cant really find anywhere else, such as a camouflaged AKM or a customized protecta. I once found a half condition Sako TRG-42 on a merc, and they often have things like SVDs and M24s.
A map with bioluminescent fauna would be absolutely amazing at night. Surprised I haven't seen that been done.
I want this now.
there aren't really any shaders in Stalker that could make a good bioluminescent effect as far as I know
