I never understood how people find STALKER scary. It has its creepy moments but it's not really that frightening. There are occasional jump scares and creepy moments, but overall it's not scary.
The worst is everyone acting like bloodsuckers are the most terrifying enemy ever devised. Just look for the blur, listen, and shoot, bam, done.

AtmosFEAR foggy night. Not knowing there was a bloodsucker to begin with, Low health because reasons.
Now you hear the gruff breathing.
Sure, the first time was scary but as soon you get the shotgun they aren't much of a threat. After a few times you start to know where the bloodsuckers are.
Then you play MISERY and you regret everything in life and hope you land a critical shot on them before they get you.
I think sticky bombs would be funny in STALKER. Especially with how enemies can sometimes mess up the pathing if you jump somewhere exploitable.

The game is definitely unnerving the first time through, especially the labs.
However, I agree, once you've done a few runs, everything in the game becomes very mechanical. Mutants are a non-threat if you have a rock to hop on. A lot of the human-AI is easily exploited. It's only really scary after that if you wind up in a shit situation or something spooks you jumpscare wise by winding a corner or making a loud noise suddenly. Like Bloodsuckers just appearing in your face in CoC, or slowly ebbing around a corner after a military grunt only to be shot in the back by one that flanked you.
So has anyone released a bugfix mod for LA that doesn't add new weapons or try and 'improve' the graphics or balance or whatever the shit
It's kinda pissing me off that all these bugfix mods are bundled with garbage that I don't want. I just want ZRP for LA, nothing more, nothing less.
A LARP so to speak... Oh god that name is gorgeous, someone needs to make it now.
idk i still find running into a chimera at night without some kind of buffer pretty scary
In fact I think STALKER is still scary because of its unpredictability. Sure 9 times out of 10 you'll be prepped for a possible scenario, but it always has that one time that throws you off and gets your heart pumping.
I don't think it matters that it's usually a jump scare because the jump scare isn't being forced on you through a scripted sequence, it's just a result of the combination of the environment, ambient noises, music and what you encounter and that makes the scares feel way more legitimate to me than many scary games. Hell sometimes the ambience of an area gets me to jump at something that isn't even there.
Also one bloodsucker was never that scary, but a pack is a very different story.
In my new game of AMK 1.4, I encountered my first Chimera in that game in particular near the end of Cordon right after what I assume was a controller that I never actually found yanked my shotgun right out of my hands into the twilight zone because I never found the gun again. It was dark as fuck because of atmosfear so I wasn't sure what it was at first so I just started unleashing until it jumped at me from about a country away and I sidestepped it as it went straight into a Whirligig.
To this day I like to believe the Chimera was just trying to warn me about the invisible anomaly behind me. I fucking hate AMK's invisible anomalies though.
Man, whoever was the programmer of stalker's renderer was one vulgar guy :v:

They do emit sound though, unless you disabled that as well. I like AMK's low-visibility, but audible anomalies a lot, along with the randomness and movement after blowouts - it makes the maps feel a little bit larger as you have to pay more attention instead of just zipping along. Playing SoC vanilla anomaly placement feels a bit boring now.
Ceano's Call from Pripyat is a very neat little mod. Tried out both that and Pripyat Gameplay Rebalanced as vanilla+++ mods and have decided to stick with CfP - it's a nice balance of new mechanics (tiredness/sleep) and updates to the core game without going full-on realism simulator that completely changes the core game. I'm surprised it doesn't get mentioned more often in the various stalker forums.
CfP has reduced run speed but much lower stamina drain too, so while you can run forever at low load the maps feel a little bigger.
PGR feels like Misery 2.0 Lite in that it contains many mechanics that resurfaced in M2.
I still like old build style anomalies. No flashing lights like stock, just a slight shimmer and some leaves swirling around. Hard enough to see if you're not paying attention, really good when you have randomized anomalies ala AMK or FreeplayStart.

I suddenly have the urge to port that effect into LA now :v:
Are there any mods I can throw on top of SGM to improve it? I was hoping there'd be some weapon model swaps or animations or something since a lot of it uses the ugly vanilla ones.

I can easily reproduce that
Anyone recommend a Stalker SoC mod that isn't SOUP (dear g0d)?
I've been looking at OGSE but I'm just wondering if I should go for anything else before I commit.

[sp]the intro gets me every fucking time lmao[/sp]
OR if you can get a hold of the legendary ABC 2.0 Inferno, you're set for quadripple times the fun with a load of russiankitchensink throw in.

you realize that video is recorded in SoC, right?
That is to say: you're not the only one. It's not hard at all. (plus you can open up the particles.xr from that build and investigate the effects yourself, though the effect themselves exist mostly unchanged in the retail particles.xr anyway.)

I know. I did particles for SoC, CS and CoP. I meant to say with the comment; send me a particle.xr that needs a merge / edit and I can do it for you lol

OGSE was pretty good and fun. It wasn't super extra ultra mega over the top and still needed work but it wasn't broken in any way that would ruin the experience. Power curve's a little icky though.

Well now this, this is beautiful. I like it.

It was my very first mod. It was quite the introduction to stalker modding to me lol
I'll admit, Stalker could use a joke/troll mod or two. Would put those bicycle bloodsuckers to good use!
Then again, with some mods you don't know if the makers were fucking around or not.

apologies for my abrasiveness, I had a rough morning
I'd actually rather do it myself, been a while since I've played with the particle tool
Anyone here tried Oblivion Lost 3.0 yet? If so, what's it like?

If you've played a lot of more recent mods, it feels extremely outdated in concepts and execution.
It's more or less OL2.2 smoothed out and updated. So if that's what you're looking for, especially a re-run of it, go for it.
Cheers, might give it a shot then.
I played OL 2.2 years ago and not touched it in a good while, looking forward to it.

I don't want this.
So what ever happened to TFW for Clear Sky, did development for it just cease after a while?
Is there a way to bring up the Atmosfear menu if it's not there? I'm running SGM 2.2 Lost Soul and it has Atmosfear in it, but nothing in the main menu to tweak it.
Pretty much any mutant with a jump attack annoys me. The snorks are the worst, I swear they track you mid-flight. Then they do that little roll and sidekick you for a weirdly high amount of damage.
