Bit of a rant, but I really miss the the persuasion system from New Vegas. FO3's percentage based system is shoddy, but the rare SPECIAL checks where you just need a certain stat level work well. NV improved on that with its skill/SPECIAL level based system, which is pretty much perfect. You actually require speech or another skill to be at a certain level to pass the check instead of taking a chance with a percentage. It's great how there are multiple solutions too, so for example if you don't have repair 75 for a speech check you might have science 50. Also if your skill isn't high enough you say a different line and NPCs even react to them, like when you tell House he's "chip outta luck".
Obviously Bethesda didn't learn from that for FO4 because it's chance based again, except this time instead of written percentages it's a vague easy, medium or hard system that's never fully explained. You're told that higher charisma increases your odds, as does the Lady Killer/Black Widow perk but other than that it's left up in the air. Your character always says the same line and it's just a matter of chance if it works. I don't think the difficulty colour of the check even changes to reflect the percentage because with high Charisma I'm still seeing medium and hard everywhere. It would be nice to know exactly what my odds are, does red still mean hard if I've got Charisma 8 or have I got a 60% chance of it working? Then with high Charisma it's still possible to fail easy checks, which is pretty ridiculous. In fact, there's nothing to stop the player from quicksaving during dialogue and just hitting F9 until they get it right, even with low Charisma. Overall this system's a massive step back, I don't know why anyone thought it was a good idea.
I'm pretty certain Bethesda refused to acknowledge anything Obsidian did.
Personally I feel like they chose to snub any improvements Obsidian brought to the table out of some retarded pride because they don't like the idea of being one upped by a smaller team who made a game in such a short time frame with so many reused assets but managed to be better than FO3 in damn near every way possible :v:
So I went digging into the data files of Fallout 4, and I stumbled upon this;

Would be neat if I could cut them into universal format and make a nice imgur album out of them
Anyone mind putting this all randomly in a grid and make a wallpaper?

Just sell the ammo, they're worth 1 cap each I think so trade in your 1k+ .38 ammo and you'll get a big discount off buying proper ammo
It's still pretty effective against ghouls and smaller animals, so I'll probably keep hold of it for a while.
Really disliking how there is no real way to be a bad person in the game. No faction is bad/evil but more of a neutral sort. The baddest way you play is insulting someone, cause all other dialogue options are good.
Also where is that vault near Diamond City everyone is talking about?
Oh and someone did a classic fallout dialogue system, only in russian so far, no idea if it shows the whole subtitle immediately since I can't read russian.

Bug warning:
If you have Preston Garvey (or maybe another companion) in power armour and talk to Sturges about doing one of the final minutemen missions [sp]the one where you try sabotage the Institute reactor[/sp] he stops being a companion, you can't trade with him, and you can't tell him to get out of power armour. I fast travelled out of there and came back to see he'd lost his power armour, and it wasn't anywhere on the map.
Though the mission before where you [sp]defend the Castle against like, a hundred Synths[/sp] was pretty damn awesome my last save is before it and I don't want to go through that again to get my T-45 suit back
I get some major Tiberian Sun vibes going into the Glowing Sea, just needs Tiberium.
Hell, I even found the Pyramid of Nod.

honestly this game feels like it was left to be completed with modding tools but I'm having a great time regardless.
God, the Minutemen questline falls apart so fucking horribly if you take the Castle early. It's been this awful slog of reading tutorials and trying to figure out where Gavey keeps hiding to progress it.
I love power armor. Having it timed and HUGE makes it such a statement to use, it's very exciting just stomping around desolate towns at night, floodlights on. Kinda makes me wish nights were darker.
Dunno if it's been mentioned yet, but the Magazine Shelf you can build under storage (or misc? I dunno) displays the mags you put in it, ordered by the order you put them in (so you can stick five Grognaks, two Teslas, three Robco Funs, etc and it'll look nice)

Are the Minutemen quests radiant? I'm doing them because Preston keeps finding new settlements but there doesn't seem to be an end.
What DLC do you think we're gonna get? My bet is hopefully a Lovecraft inspired area, and most likely some sorta sequel to Mothership Zeta.
I managed to steal not one, but two sets of T60 power armour from a group of 4 brotherhood knights and 2 vertibirds. I didn't know they jumped out of their power armour occasionally. Took one of them, killed the closest knight who jumped back into his, grabbed the armour and booked it. I used practically all of my ammo and breathed stimpaks when killing the second knight, but I think it was worth it, considering T51 isn't even spawning yet for me.

It's a shame you have to use a console command to set the ownership to you though, I'm pretty sure the original owner won't miss it, considering he's dead. Had to toss the other set I stole onto a spare T45 frame I have.

Considering the [sp]living alien near the crash site, which implies the aliens are still mucking about with Earth[/sp], I think we'll probably get a Mothership Zeta style expansion.

I wanted to do a raider jerkbag run for my first time this time 'cause normally I go generic good guy for my first runs. However, it fell apart pretty quickly. Most of the time I just end up being a confused guy who just sort of accidentally ends up doing nice things for everyone.

I'm playing on Normal because I'm super weenie hut jrs and I've found the pipe automatics are fantastic for burning through that cheap ammo. It's just not worth putting together automatics in any other caliber because you get a better deal out of a semiautomatic built for damage and range, but I still want something I can pull out and spray with.
Ok so I've gotten as far as [sp]going to the institute, having the reveal about Father and stuff, but now I have no idea which faction to support. At the moment I can kinda do any of the faction quests, but I'm assuming at some point doing one of the quests is going to close off the rest and I don't know when that's going to happen.[/sp]
Also, from an RP perspective [sp]I can't decide who to help. The lack of info about the Institute is kind of infuriating. I'm there and can talk to everyone but there's no way to ask them why exactly everyone hates them, or to justify why they kidnap people and their synths kill everyone.[/sp]
In short: [sp]I feel like I have to decide which faction to support, The Institute or Brotherhood (or railroad I think) but there feels like a massive lack of information to actually let me decide who to help. Is there a point where it's all clear and you get to decide or what?[/sp]
Ohhh, doing the Minutemen quest auto-clears out all the Mirelurk garbage in the Castle. Welp. Wish I had known that. :v:

[sp] I thought that the "synths replacing people" was a direct result of the synths escaping the institute. It seems like the Institute either uses synths for soldiers or for their workforce. [/sp]
I feel like the dialouge wheel is nice, but in the next game it could be heavily expanded upon so that some options could be karma and/or faction relation dependent. (Maybe numpad for 9 options)

I walked around and decided that:
[sp]
The Good:
1) The Institute are a group interested in humanity's future
2) They're all pretty human people and not all assholes
3) Shaun
4) Having a load of Synths might help rebuild Humanity
The Bad:
1) They're completely reckless with Synths. They reject the idea that Synths can ever have free will (talk to Ayo, Father, etc) and say that they're always going to be tools.
2) There's literally a production line where they build one every 10 seconds
3) They're seeking to make models of Synths superior to human beings
4) Because of this Skynet is basically inevitable
I didn't kill Shaun but I did wipe out the Robotics group and then leave[/sp]

I give it a year and someone will have made Fallout 1 in Fallout 4.
So I've just started the Institute quest [sp]where you first actually see the place, and am I right in guessing that Father is Shaun? The moment he walked through the door and was a black man, and said that Shaun is closer than I think gave it the actual fuck away. Why do I always gotta be a black man when I get the choice? It made the end of MGSV weird for me also.[/sp]
Edit:
Oh, so I unpaused the game and got the answer to the question I just asked. Was expecting them to draw it out longer than that.
Can't wait for modders to make their own pip-boy games (and a separate list for holotapes)
I can't wait to see Doom on the Pipboy.
If a calculator can play Doom, The Pipboy could!
So I stupidly made the mistake of making my Windows partition too small, and after about 6 months, it got completely full up from installed programs (just regular shit, Antivirus program, Steam, etc.) even though I put all my big stuff on a different HDD (Steam Library, downloads, etc).
So in my attempt to format that HDD and install Windows on a bigger partition, I accidentally went and formatted the wrong drive.
I think I've lost all my game saves. Fallout 4, The Witcher 3 (fuck GoG Galaxy for not doing Cloud Saves, god fucking damn), From the Depths (really fun game that I had a decently badass fleet in).
I'm not even mad, just disappointed and ashamed in myself. No way I'm gonna restart my F4 game anytime soon. I'll probably play it during Christmas break or - worse yet - next Summer :')
It seems not matter what I do, Fallout 4 now completely refuses to even acknowledge changes to my graphic options, regardless of the INI being set to read only or not.
Supposedly.
[t]http://puu.sh/lmwsy.png[/t]
Is "Ultra" for texture quality. I've gone through the launcher multiple times and it says ultra, went into the INI's, and can't see anything to note that the texture quality is anything lower.
Doesn't seem to acknowledge ANY changes to my graphics at all. Even when the launcher says they are what I set them too.

I don't know much about the graphics of Fallout 4 but I've noticed texture pop in is super bad, maybe check that out.

You've got the bug where it's not streaming in the higher quality texture, so you're constantly loading in the lower LODs for some reason. Lot of people have this and theres no clear answer for why its happening.
Verify your files maybe?
So at level 5 I just got blasted by a raider with a Fat Man.
Okay.
