The Unofficial Obsidian Conflict Megathread V1: Now 98% less broken
55 replies, posted
Well I posted the time for the event, It's going to be happening today around about 12 pm PST. Check the group for more info
I see you're using my server, i'll be there if you need admin support. I can also add maps and increase player slots if needed.
And to give some more insight on why development is practically dead, it has a lot to do with the mod being around for 10 years by now and the team getting too old.
Most of the original team members have left and the few that are left don't have the time or motivation to work on a free mod anymore. Many moved on to commercial projects (like me).
While we did get a new team member every once in a while, they could not get any work done because most of the team laid dormant. The mod needs a completely new team to fill every position with active members.
It's a shame, i really want to finish the maps that i made for the next version of the mod, it would be a waste to just let them vanish. :(
We need a dedicated backup OC server? I can set one up.
Just a note, since Maestro told people to completely turn off downloads, you got to have at least "cl_allowdownload 1" and "cl_downloadfilter all" or you won't be able to download any maps. It's save on the official servers.
That was fucking mental.
Long time since I had so much fun and I have so much video material,
cutting that shit into a proper video will take ages.
Have to do it again.
what happened to oc_castledefense? I thought it was included with OC, but I can't find it

The map has copyrighted models and music, so now the only way is to download it from servers.
GEMA was behind the mod devs for using copyrighted music, so we removed all mirrors of the mod at the website during a short time (a couple of months?). When the new installer was done, we decided to apply a "special free" version where all the music was either replaced by HL2 music, or muted, as well as all the copyrighted textures and models taken out or replaced (for example, there will not longer be THE LOVE BOAT icon and song at the map Fireteam).
I had a good laugh yesterday, I wonder how you guys survived when it was the time to play Factory, since you love anime :v:
Actually, no one was behind us for anything, i just removed the copyrighted content as a precaution after the website started running under my name.
Nothing happened in the past, but it's a risk i didn't want to take given how popular copyright claims are getting these days. :(
You should be able to get the map from playing on most servers.
Late response, but thanks to everybody who showed up for the first event. You guys helped make this
event an enjoyable experience for everybody.
Now A little update. I've collected some footage from our last event which I will hopefully edit soon into a short recap video when I can find the time. And also another reminder that the next event is going to happen again on Saturday at 12pm PST, so as said before it's going to be the same date, same time, and most likely the same server.
I managed to get footage from the first map we played on last(first, last) Saturday:

It gets better near the end, also sorry for sucking so much at the game, it's hard to play with 220+ ping.
I'll try to get the other demos rendered out into video as well, but they've been crashing so far and it might take some time.
Man, OC was pretty fun back in the day. Pretty similar to the good old days of Sven Co-op.
Shame that most Source mods are eclipsed by Gmod gamemodes these days.

Just use Shadowplay, OBS or MSX Afterburner. Demos hasn't work well since Source 2013 appeared, let alone since Steampipe.
I will record the next one since I have better ping if you want.

I normally prefer the quality and consistency you can get out of demos, so it's a shame they're broken.
Absolutely loved this mod when I was younger. I remember playing maps like Harvest, Kake, and that one where you fight the colored Antlion Guards like it was yesterday.
Just felt more engaging than Synergy too due to it's similar setup with Sven Co-op.
Do people still play this or is it dead? I had so much fun in it.
Oh man, I wish I had seen this thread a couple weeks ago. I've had many fond memories of OC, heck I'm even in a couple of the videos in the OP. I'd love to play it again, I'll keep an eye out on the group for any more play sessions!
Holy shit my mic sounds terrible.
Could the entire code base go open source? It's a shame for all that programming to go to waste. Unless there are reasons that whoever owns it just doesn't want to give it out, that's fine too because it's not like they have to. I'm just being optimistic that people would pick it up if there was a demand.

I always heard that the code is a big mess and is outdated as well (noshit), so I doubt that could be of any help (at best, a couple of decent coders would take a while not only to port it, but also to rewrite the old parts, this has been running since 2006).
Joined the group and look forward to playing on weekends.

As far as people playing it goes, I would say a good chunk of the community has died off, so it's not as active as it used to be. But we've been hosting group playthroughs on Saturdays and they've yielded some success with making a little OC less dead.
Also speaking of group event's, I'm going to have another one at the usual time this Saturday, but I'm probably not going to hang around for long because I'm going to be busy with some other stuff that I have to take care of.
What was the usual time again?
What was the usual time again?
The usual time is 12 pm PST
That was an awful whole lot of fun, also, fuck explosive barrels.
Shit, been 6 months, someone up next Sunday, usual time?
I reinstalled Obsidian Conflict today and it's kinda sad that we aren't doing more weekend game nights, I'd be down for another OC game event this Saturday and Sunday if anyones up for doing these again.
