Speaking of visual mechanics, how bad is the Radiation static? I still haven't gotten to any areas with radioactive activity yet.
AMA: http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/35isgi/we_are_crowbar_collective_the_group_behind_black/
What do the devs mean when they keep bringing up boats? Is this related to the unfinished pizza arg? And how is that pizza arg going? Anything new since the mod release on steam?
8. Headcrabs seem to use some custom animation for running around? It looks silly. The crab looks jerky and twitchy. I'm sure HL2's default anims could do the job perfectly.
That is their HL2 animation as far as I can tell.
So did they just remove all knockback for the Tau cannon in single-player? Seems to be sort of missing the point imo.
why the hell did the developers let all the arena combat boil down to being mobbed at the entrance
This may be a dumb question, but I'm unfamiliar with this stuff, one of the DEVs said on a map that disabling High Dynamic Range could fix my FPS lag spikes on certain maps potentially, I have no clue how to do this, I don;t see an option, and using the console command does nothing.
What do the devs mean when they keep bringing up boats? Is this related to the unfinished pizza arg?
Don't you get it? Xen is going to be a water level, in which gordon navigates around in a boat. The Black Mesa devs figured that the original Xen's level design was mundane, so rather then navigating around with the long jump module Gordon will be equipt with his very own dinghie as well as a paddle (which will replace the crowbar as the main melee weapon)
Options > Video > Advanced
That's the thing though, the menu only gives me the option "Full (if available)" and that's it. Nothing else in the dropdown menu. [editline]11th May 2015[/editline]
Black Mesa only has Full and Expanded, at least on my end. Setting it to LDR via console commands or anything lower makes it fullbright (the command is mat_hdr_level [0/1/2/3, where 0 is Off, 1 is LDR, 2 is HDR Full, and 3 is HDR Expanded]). I'm not sure why he would be told by a developer to disable HDR if it makes the game fullbright, unless that's what the dev wanted, or unless I'm missing something.
I can;t recall who it was, it was a DEV in a multiplayer match asking us for any tips and such, there were like 2 others (purple hats next to their names) He said that some users were having problems with FPS and fixed it by disabling HDR, maybe he just didn't know.
change it through the console mat_hdr_level 0 1 or 2

So I decided to destroy the beautiful sound design the Black Mesa team put all their effort into and replaced some of the weapon sounds as a test sort of thing. I forgot where these sounds originally came from as they were sitting on my hard drive so if anyone knows who the authors are, cred to them. Opinions? I'm not a big fan of the Glock and 357 firing sounds but I do like the rest.

We do not compile with LDR lightmaps, and thus, if you disable HDR, your game will be fullbright.

Imagine re-enacting the ending of Jaws with an ichthyosaur
You should NOT disable HDR. We do not compile with LDR lightmaps, and thus, if you disable HDR, your game will be fullbright.
Why would you do this?
Why would you do this?
Usually to save on space. If you compile with both HDR and LDR lightmaps, the map filesize can skyrocket depending on how many low-lightmap scale brushes you have, and the size of the map.
Why would you do this?
Quite a few reasons. Filesize bloat, HDR is a total standard now (and has been for like...5 years), reduce loading times, reduce compile times, reduce bugs, and we may have a really awesome way to repurpose the lump for the LDR lightmaps, which we hope to reveal...soon™.
Should post it on the workshop, good way to get more attention
Sounds like a better idea, actually. I'll have to get my bank info straightened out today, then. Dunno why you need to have payment info even for free mods on workshop, but oh well. Still though, thanks for the idea!

Would fit amazingly.
You should NOT disable HDR. We do not compile with LDR lightmaps, and thus, if you disable HDR, your game will be fullbright.
Well, damn. Thanks anyway.
Wait...what? You definitely shouldn't...
It was added a little before the paid mod fiasco. Was intended for tf2 and dota2 but looks to have bled into other workshops. Which is a little weird since they have a system in place for if you do receive revenue and don't have that filled out. They just without it until the end of the year. That's when they personally start sending you emails to fill it out already.
Like I said before, you should totally repurpose that as a sticker for CSGO's workshop as well. Would fit amazingly.
And you'd make a quick buck if it got into the game.
http://www.pcgamer.com/black-mesa-mod-wont-get-xen-levels/ Oh well, I hope at least they release the code, even if is only from the mod.
http://www.pcgamer.com/black-mesa-mod-wont-get-xen-levels/ Oh well, I hope at least they release the code, even if is only from the mod.
That header is really misleading. The article only says that FREE version won't get Xen but the header creates the impression that BM won't get Xen at all.
"Black Mesa mod won't get Xen levels" How is that misleading? It says mod, not game.
