Black Mesa Source V5 - "They're still working on Xen?"

if they do they're dumb. valve stopped making campaign based games because they figured out they can make multiplayer games which take half the time to make and then they make loads of money by tricking people in to buying cosmetic items

make make make bake a cake
Do people really even honestly expect HL3 anymore?
I just want the story arc to get a competent ending, and the mod community to be revived. A game from '93 having a more active fanbase is mindnumbing.
It's sad that it seems like Source modding has slowed down. There used to be tons of SP and MP mods released all the time, now Black Mesa seems like it's one of the few left.

I don't get this attitude at all.
Tricking people into buying cosmetics? This approach was almost celebrated when they introduced it in TF2, finally something that people are willing to pay for in-game that doesn't ruin game balance.
Years later and everybody thinks it's uncool and idk if it's because Valve continues that approach with later games, but in any case did anybody expect them to stop doing it? It still makes them tonnes of money, it still doesn't affect gameplay, and it gives Valve an even bigger financial incentive to keep updating games than just having new people buy them. What the fuck is there to be unhappy about.
And of course they still make single player games. Their latest one sold millions of copies. Yes, they said that the traditional SP game is done, but combined with previous statements it's clear that it's because they want to tie in gameplay with social features or some such shit.
"It's single-player plus, not 'no more single-player'."

the worst part of all of this is that your sentiment is 'common knowledge' on the internet
everybody and their mom knows that valve don't make games anymore, that hl3 is dead, or that they only care about milking their existing titles
this kind of shit taints every fucking discussion about valve because someone has to bring it up every time

uhh are you sure? did you look for any reactions to it outside of facepunch? even in facepunch the reaction was pretty iffy but i remember fairly universal mocking of the system when it first was introduced.
i mean i agree with what you're saying in general but i don't think you remember the introduction of hats to tf2 very well
Valve would probably do well to make a new multiplayer game set in the Half-Life universe. That way they can continue using their microtransaction model and pacify HL fans with a new game (at least temporarily) at the same time.
[editline]14th July 2015[/editline]
Or alternatively, replace "pacify" with "piss off a lot of". Either way.
As a huge Half-Life fan I'd have to say I'd be pretty furious if any Half-Life game wasn't singleplayer and only singleplayer (HLDM is okay, but no story-based multiplayer, please.)
Half-Life 1 style with built in DM please?

Maybe. I remember that a good deal of people cried that TF2 was going pay to win, but once the initial reactionary posters left the discussion, most people agreed that it was a sensible system. As I remember it, anyway.

An actual HL game would obviously be preferable, but it's pretty clear we wont be getting that any time soon and the setting at least has potential for an interesting multiplayer game beyond simple DM. I could see something along the lines of Enemy Territory working well in a combine vs rebels setting for instance.

I agree, although I'll reserve judgement until we actually have any info (which probably won't be any time soon), but there's a pretty big difference between that and Valve not doing 'campaign based games'.

Valve breaking everything everytime there is an update (last one breaking a lot of stuff), and Unreal/Unity becoming free made people leave Source.
The last hope is that the source code of Source 2 is 1: full, without putting vital stuff behind a license to modify, and 2: clean and understandable, Source 1 is literally a duct-tape tower, full of no sense stuff.
Wait, HL2 Substance, still on development!?. I thought it was done, and after the OrangeBox Update, it got fully broken.
EDIT: Oh wait, is just a way to make it work again through SMOD. Still cool however, I always wanted to test it.
I had no idea SMOD returned to work again, yet alone being standalone, I guess is safe to play, right?
Wait, we are on the BMS thread? Uhhh....err yes.
How's going Crossfire?
Being completely honest, especially for MP focused Source content Garry's Mod is kind of the end-all "Mod's Mod"- why try and go against the grain and release a standalone? Neotokyo, Resistance & Liberation, Fistful of Frags, what have you... dead
[editline]14th July 2015[/editline]
fun fact: I just checked my Mod DB tracker and 3 single player Source projects I'm following updated in the past 24 hours (INFRA, Wilson Chronicles, Half-Life 2 Substance)
Fistful of Frags got released as steam game and is still being developed.

I don't think you understand the meaning of "literally".
I don't think you understand the meaning of "literally".
I don't think you understand the meaning of the word "hyperbole". Saying something is literally a duct tape tower is no less accurate than just saying something is a duct tape tower.

"literally" used to be the word you'd use to explain what you were saying ISN'T hyperbole, but it's 2015, and the word just means anything you want it to mean now
I don't get it, tbh. It just it doesn't mean that or what?
I don't get it, tbh. It just it doesn't mean that or what?
Literally means, "As written/As spoken."
If I were to say "I literally almost died" it would mean that I experienced something that brought me close to death.
It's an English figure of speech to use Literally as an exaggeration, like when someone says "I literally almost died" when they trip and stumble over an uneven curb.
Some people get varying degrees of mad when it's misused.
This is literally going off topic.
On topic then, when will Xen's part be released?

Yes...? Why do you think it isn't in the game yet.
Things sure have been quiet lately I wonder when the next update for black mesa will come out? It's been over a month so far.
The next patch is currently in public beta. The patch notes are:
Current Beta Patch: 0.1.1
Patch Notes:
* Fixed wrong texture being displayed on _mp glock.
* Fixed glock idle animation pop.
* Replaced $basealphaenvmapmask with $normalmapalphaenvmapmask.
* Removed autoaim settings from options.
* Fixed zombie hands in singleplayer.
* Fixed chargers not working with some savegames.
* Disabled autorun by default.
* added Single Player Source files in bms/mapsrc.
* added bm_mp_environments.vmf in bms/mapsrc.
... we're not joking. Thats all the .vmf's for Black Mesa Single Player. Enjoy :)
There are a few more things which have been added/fixed into that patch since then, I believe.
Beyond that, we are working on two things. Xen, and Content Update 2. Content Update 2 will be quite a bit larger than Content Update 1, and will take quite some time; a few months.
