Black Mesa Source V5 - "They're still working on Xen?"
For a remake / reimagining, that really bugs me that a 'boss' of sorts got messed up this much. Granted, the apache fight in the original wasn't super-memorable for me, but this one is just a flying ball of fury unleashing hell's wrath upon the player.
Infact, all of the difficulty really seems.. Off. Less ammo overall, enemies hit harder and attack faster, Marines shoot with insane accuracy and impossible reflexes while being able to shoot on the move as well.. We all covered this after it released last year (nearly the one year anniversary, huh), but I wonder how much of it was intentional and how much of it was just a lack of playtesting?
That's because the HL1 version wasn't a boss fight at all. It was more of a way to make sure the player got the RPG. If you went by without the RPG, the Helicopter would chase you back into the cave and you'd find it. If you did have the RPG, you shot the Helicopter and it blew up in one hit.
Besides that personally I feel like the difficulty is easier than HL1.

Do I have to put this in the configs or is it a console command?

skill.cfg
Should work as a console command too, but you'd need to enter it every time you enter the level. Also, I'm not sure if it would affect the boss apache, since that one is very heavily scripted.
One of the things that got us mad while we waited for the release, and later when we played it, was the cut of On a Rail, due the beta testers getting confused and lost on the original design. It was so hard left behind the tram, and go forward running?

It wasn't the testers, the devs themselves didn't like OAR and wanted to cut it down as much as they could.
I really wish they would release patches little by little instead of waiting to do it all at once when it gets on Steam. And that seems to be taking ages.
'cause god fucking forbid people stop thinking they're dead

It does affect the boss battle, the machine gun barrages are more like HL1, quick sprays as it strafes by, but the rocket barrages are the same.
hl1 apache has a 180 degree weakness, it can't shoot anything behind it
not only I'm pretty sure the bms apache does not have this, but it maneuvers too quickly to be caught from behind either way.
It's annoying how the MP5 can only shoot in bursts.
Decided to play through again and made it through the giant ambush in Questionable Ethics without dropping below 90 health.
Then when I got to the dam I crashed when I jumped in the water.
i thought the QE ambush was hard on the first playthrough but after i noticed the game breaker potential in the Gauss Cannon when facing HECU it became easy as piss
Do we know if they are actively working on Xen, or is it canned for now until they can figure out how to make it better?

It's been a year (well, in 10 days it will be) they've been working on that damn Pizza ARG, and they haven't made much progress in MONTHS.
Damn you, Stormseeker!
Also, Black Mesa is almost 1 year old!

We don't really know (I think), but I assume they'll release Xen when the game comes out on Steam. We definitely don't know when that will be, but I think it's a pretty safe bet.

Speaking of which, I after the level change to the dam level I lost my Tau Cannon.
Am I being optimistic that they will tell us something on the anniversary of the release?
yes
xen coming 2015

No
Secretly they are working with Valve to make Black Mesa 2 on the Source 2 engine.

When your ARG gets nowhere after about a week, they generally push it up in some way. Not months, that means they've clearly done something to obfuscate the next step that only makes sense to themselves.

Apparently Stormseeker said that they were really close with one of their ideas. But, of course, he isn't giving any hints as to which one and where to go from there.
He forgot.
I don't see how this ARG could lead up to anything worthwhile, if it's taken this long.
They are waiting for them to find out to release Xen :v:

I know it's free content, but Jesus, why did it take so long for them to look for people... Did someone bail on them?

Wouldnt be the first time someone bailed.

We figured it was time to pick up some speed. Expect some lovely updates in the near future.
I'll hold you to that, then!
Take your time though. If there's one thing I'm good at in regards to Valve games and the mods thereof, it's waiting. Certainly not good at modding the things myself, that's for damn sure. :v:

Then, for pick up some speed, you will finally accept OnARail Uncut and SurfaceTension Uncut as a official, or you already have done all those maps?
