Black Mesa Source V5 - "They're still working on Xen?"
I mean a BM gameplay wise but with a different story and set on Aperture. Not a copy-paste BM on Aperture.
you mean guns in aperture? shooting stuff in aperture??? YEAH NO thanks i dont want that, there isnt even hostile enemies in aperture aside from turrets, what the fuck are you gonna be shooting at?!!
PLUS the game name is BLACK MESA, it was made just for half life, even though both HL and portal are in same universe, i still think both sides need their own different game (set in the same universe but different locations from each other)
and who would be the protagonist in this BM/aperture thingy you speak of??? GLaDOS obviously hates black mesa, any guy coming from there into aperture will either get burned by lemons (if prequel) or suffocate from neurotoxin (if sequel), like i said, even if theyre on the same universe, both sides should stay in their own game.

Wow calm down. Yes guns, it could be normal arsenal or experiments. Also it didn't need to be on the same Aperture where BM/HL takes place, like it could be on Aperture on alternative universe, like when you play an Workshop map on Portal 2 it has a different Cave Johnson each time. Since Aperture has a focus on A.I. and such, we could have androids, the turrets and maybe the marines but that's way too much HL.
Also you are missing the point: i meant a mod of BM because it uses a more modern Source engine, making modding and porting few contents way easier and the gameplay mechanics, at least for me, are way more refined. Just because it has "Black Mesa" on the name doesn't mean people can create different stuff that is completely unreleated to it. See the original HL and the mods that originate it from. Like i said, it doesn't need to be canon, it doesn't need to be on the same Aperture as BM takes place or BM even exist on this universe. It's more like "What if Aperture had some experiments just like BM did...", just like some HL mods do, like there is one which sees how a scientist survives the BM event.
Protagonist could be anyone, employee, scientist or even a test subject. Just let the creation go

why are you getting so worked up about this
why are you getting so worked up about this
lol i just dont like the idea, nothing personal.
I, too, would like to see Crowbar Collective's interpretation of the Portal franchise, even if it is just an explorational one-off. They captured the rigid standardization and govermental buereaucratic control of BMS perfectly, I'd like to see how they'd interpret AS's complete lack thereof

Thing is though, unlike Black Mesa which we'd never really seen in high quality, we know what Apeture looks like in HD thanks to Portal 2. There's nothing to interpret because we've seen it in the most up-to-date form.

The looks at BTS were really fleeting, though. Although the storytelling was amazing, Portal/P2 were really just exceptionally overachieving puzzle games. That's not to say the games aren't fantastic - they are, and the games industry can learn a lot from them - just saying I'd love to spend more time BTS exploring and solving nonportal puzzles, and if i could pick someone to do it, it'd be CC, hands down.
Haven't posted here in a while, though I've been keeping an eye on it!
This thread on our public forums has some interesting information/discussion about the current state of updates for BMS. Thought those of you who were interested could check it out. I spill quite a few beans there!

This is probably the best reason why such an idea is unnecessary. I doubt we'd be able to come close to topping what Valve did with Portal 2 in any meaningful way (and we have no desire to do so, anyway!)

Aw dammit now I'm hyped again.
On a serious note though, fuckin A are you guys ever pulling this together. I mean, I realize that the whole "fluid" method of working on this game means a lot of things you say you're planning on doing might never happen, but the fact that you have SO much planned to be released in (best-case scenario) around a month or so is just staggering. Even if the majority of the planned content for this update doesn't make it, it still sounds like it'd be a fantastic one, regardless.

They were fleeting because there nearly as much to the BTS of Aperture as there is to the testing areas. We've seen most of what there is to see. It's like the lining of a wall. Everything's built around the test chambers. They're the bulk of aperture, and the BTS is mostly areas for the staff, some kind of storage, laboratories, or machinery.

There's so much more, though. Vitrified testing areas, the salt mines, equipment rooms and service tunnels... we never even got to see cave's office or anything executive, really, just the test chambers and their immediate service areas.

Sorry to kill your hype, but you might want to reread my posts.
Everything I stated is NOT coming in the next update, I could have been clearer about that. Those are our long term plans for all updates. Content Update 2 will likely not be for another month and a half, at least. I was talking about our total plans.
CU2 will still be big, but it won't be everything I listed.
But yeah, we'll pull it together eventually. So much to do!
i cant be the only one who dosent like the new black mesa alien grunt style?
honestly i liked the old HL1 look

the new black mesa style makes them look slightly like humans and not aliens.
The one on the right looks like it has angry eyes for nipples :v:
I wouldn't mind BM's Grunts being a bit more top heavy. I don't care how unrealistic it is.
There was a mod for HL2 that had Agrunt remakes that were more similar to HL1 proportions(I forgot the name) but they kinda looked out of place to me because of it.
That being said, I like the BM Agrunts a lot but I wouldn't mind seeing some changes as I'm sure with better designers you could restore more HL1 features without it looking strange
Some dudes made a really good looking HD HL1 Barnacle that isn't an ugly reskin that resembles a bloody dick.
Ever since the creation of the Headcrab variants and the conception of the (sadly cut) Sand Barnacle from HL2, I always thought there would be different species of Barnacles on Xen.
Oh, and I love the document that comes with it and how it nods to the Barnacle's discovery.

that looks so plushy and cute. doesn't look like something that would devour a whole corpse. besides, even the hl1 barnacle looked more disgusting than that.

yeah, the barnacle in HL1 never really had the bright orange ribs on the side of it or the suction cup feet, the HL2 barnacle looks closer to the HL1 barnacle than that custom one. I tried that out awhile ago and while the model is very nicely made and I like that it exists, I'd rather default to recolors of the HL2 barnacle to get my HL1 nostalgia fix because despite how it is advertised that model isn't like HL1 enough for my tastes.
[sp]I say this fully knowing I have made a HL1-style skin on the Workshop which is a fairly significant departure to the original design it is based on, and I understand the hypocrisy of my judgement on this model[/sp]

That Barnacle model looks like it's based off the early concept art Barnacle:
Aaah hi guy who made it here, yes it is based very heavily off of that concept. Originally referred to it as a "reimagining" of the concept, and then a remake, and blah blah people call it what they will, Black Mesa mods seem to get more attention when they're referencing being HL1 remakes.

The 24th is the day I added "[HL1 Barnacle]" to the end of its name.
The reason it looks so plush is actually the default Barnacle animations, they scrunch the model something fierce. Working on giving it its own skeleton and animations at the moment.

My biggest gripe with the Black Mesa agrunts would be the arms, they don't look like claw-hands right now, they just look like floppy dicks.
They could probably get away with following the concept on the arms a bit more closely, and it would look fine.

it's weird how the new agrunt looks like it's wearing a stahlhelm.
nazi space aliens with fat dick arms
also looks like he has a happy face
•:D
the one thing i dont like the most about them is that they have human-like mouth and teeth
[t]http://wiki.blackmesasource.com/images/d/d0/AGrunt_cls3.jpg[/t]
it looks a little like someting from doom 3 http://www.slashgear.com/doom-3-android-release-set-for-2015-03371899/

While I'm going to miss the nipple tubes the most, I do like the more sensible design and how they made them look more similar to the Vorts. Oh, and this detail, too.

The color palette I think is the only thing that really needs to be changed: they look pretty pale and the Hivehand is a bit too exotic.

It's a good re-creation but I think they re-created the wrong 90's game monster
tbh they look like they need a whole model do over
this looks awful
Prove it. Seriously, list objective reasons why this model is "awful" and "needs" to be changed.
From http://wiki.blackmesasource.com/Alien_Grunt
The Alien Grunt was the most challenging character of Black Mesa to recreate. His model has been worked on since the beginning of the mod, and gone through two different concept artists and four different designers (which created various concepts attempts and iterations, both in 2D and 3D). According to Carlos Montero, “there have been more versions and iterations of the AGrunt than any other character in the game”
I think the problem with original Alien Grunts that they looks a bit cartoony and it was hard to recreate them in more realistic style

I think it looks badass. Artist's name is Ivan Vavilov btw
