Black Mesa Source V5 - "They're still working on Xen?"

I honestly think it matches up with the canon: They're a militarized alien force and truthfully, fashion isn't a big point in military armor, it's made to be simple, easy to produce, and functional.
I'd be more not ok with it if it were super scifi stylized and not just simple but different military outfitting
When you apply too much of earth logic to aliens they stop being aliens.
Not really, I find similar-but-different to be the most believable when it comes to sentient and organized aliens.
The more you special snowflake your alien race, the bigger a risk you run violating natural selection principals. Think Alien: it's a bipedal, upright-walking, two-armed creature that's vaguely humanoid, but it's incredibly different in its evolution of such, which is what makes it an apex predator over humans. AGrunts are meant to be the same thing, bipdeal humanoids with a different flavor of external evolutionary and environmentally influenced appearance and armament, which makes their militarization and ability to compete with the highly evolved and technical human armed forces much more believable.
Who's to dictate what functional military armor looks like on interdimensional species, though? I think Half-Life 1's shiny, smooth shapes look more alien than what is found on Black Mesa's agrunt, while not looking any less functional. It would also match the Vortigaunt slave collar more.
Considering that Agrunts are manufactured, it's fair to say that the Xenians have found a working formula.
It may be pushing the canon, but if the BM team needs enemy ideas they could introduce AGrunt varieties.

So reintroducing the concept of Alien Grunts having varied weaponry? That sounds like a good idea on paper, and it would definitely spice things up.

If the team is really going for this, a good idea is to introduce them in the Xen levels and not anywhere else.
For starters the most logical reason for this story wise is that every Grunt that was being teleported to Earth was issued with only the Hivehand because regardless of terrain it's a great overall weapon (homing projectiles, infinite ammunition, most likely less resource expensive and easier to "harvest"). They would only ever bring out the big guns when a big threat shows it's ugly head (i.e: Freeman).
Gameplay wise it would again add some variety and make Alien Grunts even more of a threat later on, but they should only ever be used sparingly.
Personally I feel that the Alien Organic Chainsaw and the Spore Launcher are already great ideas due to their designs (melee and RPG-based weaponry respectively).

Yeah I figured they'd be for spicing up Xen levels. Consider the marines, who though all similar all have varied weaponry. I'd especially like to see a melee and explosive based Agrunt variant. Snark throwing if they don't do that already?
What might be really fucking neato is if Agrunts could use bugbait on you. We already know that vortigaunts practiced antlion farming, it's not unfeasible they could also be used as attack dogs of sorts.

Yeah but throwing Snark nests Sven Co-op style wouldn't be all that presumptuous in the slightest.

Did certainly liven up AGrunts in Sven with that. And while they could bring back the chainsaw, grunts already have the effective melee attack of [del]sacking the quarterback[/del] tackling you, and I doubt they want to add something from OpFor (even something as amazing as the Spore Launcher), as that'd open up such a can of worms for them.

The Spore Missle Launcher and OpFor's Spore Launcher were completely unrelated concepts though, the latter of which being Gearbox's idea.
They're also different in functionality: presumably from the concept art, the SML would've been again a RPG-styled weapon with damage-over-time properties while OpFor's Spore Launcher is a straight up grenade launcher.
-snip mistake-
sorry but i gotta fix you on one thing, what do you exactly mean we know so much about aliens? we never met real ones.. yeah sure area 51 might know stuff but do you think theyd let us know? no, we really dont know if other creatures exist in other planets, yes i do believe in "aliens" aka creatures outside earth, but we really dont know anything about them, never met them, never seen them, yet you say we know much about them? all those alien movies you speak off are just mere speculations created by humans ON HOW we think aliens look like, how we think their abilities are, etc
i think you just meant to say, we had too much of that alien humor (movies, animations, games etc)
Alien came out in 1979, and laid the foundation for how most films and videogames have handled sci fi ever since. Many things in Half Life are direct references, some borderline ripoffs, of things from Alien.
Pop culture has more to offer than you give it credit. I'm sure if you did expose yourself to some of the greater things created by some of the greater creators out there, you'd at least be inspired and stimulated enough to come up with something to do yourself. Clearly it worked for someone, or else Half Life wouldn't exist.

i know about the inspirations, i just dont look further into them, well you see, one of the many reasons i lack movie watching is that we have no cinemas/theaters in our country, so the only way we can watch movies and films is by through internet or TV, but it gets even worser when you see all those spamming trollers who keep spamming links to a movie which only leads you to a survey, shamelessy i used to believe these stuff when i was 11, i had a movie in particular i wanted to watch, but i lost hope after searching the internet for over a week on it, with no results, ever since that day and i stopped watching movies and moved on to do other stuff in my life, its really boring and tedious to search for hours on something but you find out its not there,
but yeah lets just close this topic of aliens movies and stuff, just a mistake i made, sorry for it, its gone now.
That really sucks. PM me about it.
But yeah how boot that black Mesa
Just in case if everyone hasn't notice yet, Fr0z3n not too long ago made a thread regards to the DM map Crossfire:

im kinda sad that theres only one female scientist model in BM, when male scientists has more models, but the more "sad-der" thing is that the same female model is being reskinned to count as different minor characters, valve gave female characters the middle finger in half life 1 by not adding them (except in hl1 decay), i just hope we see a new female scientist model or two soon in BM.

That was Gearbox, though!!

Wait, do you mean there are different male scientist models, or are you just referring to the bodygroups?
The only additional male scientist model I was aware of was the one that just had a different set of textures for the face, and all the other male models had that, I believe.

i was meaning the different looks on them, oh stupid me, heres an example of what i mean
this scientist is bald
[t]http://wiki.blackmesasource.com/images//c/c2/Sci27.jpg[/t]
but this scientist has hair
[t]http://wiki.blackmesasource.com/images//6/62/Fm_sci_glasses_test.jpg[/t]
theres other male scientists that has different looks, body shape is same yes for all, but im refereeing to their face look, black mesa female scientist only has two face and hair look (which look similiar)
see here

Well, you don't see that many female scientists who are bald or have facial hair, so it wouldn't be as easy to come up with a bunch of face textures that are varied enough from each other.
But yeah, it would be nice if they had some more skins and a few extra hairstyles.

bald female scientist? why would yo-
ah yes thats what im saying, a new face and hairstyle for females would be appreciated.
Part of the issue is the female scientist model's hair bodygroups only have a blonde clip/bun, white clip, and brunette clip/bun, so only three of its seven skins are actually useable. Unusable skins include all three non-Caucasian skins.
Only know this as I was playing around with a(n unimplemented) fix for this.
