Black Mesa Source V5 - "They're still working on Xen?"
I don't know why Black Mesa modding still hasn't taken off like Half-Life's and probably never will.
Could it just be the additional effort and time needed because of the higher fidelity? Is it because Black Mesa and Source aren't quite as flexible as Goldsrc?
Cause I thought workshop would have been the key but looking through it now for the first time since the Steam release most of what's on there is cosmetic.

Could also be that Hammer is the fucking devil
I'd vote for the "everybody grew up and moved on" option.
with CSGO and dota2 in the way, and the fact that internet is pretty much a given nowadays, there's just no singleplayer interest for the upcoming ... "generation".

Fallout 4 is like the most hyped game of this year, though?
Not to mention, it had more players than Dota 2 on release date.

yes well I meant with valve, since the previous poster mentionned the goldsource era. Didn't think I would have to specify it.

Yeah, seems like I missed the point, but
The same could be said about HL3, "HL3 confirmed hurr durr" maymays are extremly popular among young generation, everyone would lose shit if Valve announced Half-Life 3.
valve already said a long long time ago they have no interest in making single player games any more
meaning either hl3 will be riddled with co-op and other multiplayer stuff kind of like portal 2 or else it'll be completely multiplayer like l4d
Remember that back at 2000, the same was being said (for example you have Quake III arena, since John Romero, or whatever of the team was, said that "in the future" people would only play multiplayer games).
Is all a cycle, like everything else. Just wait for a well crafted singleplayer game with modding, and you will see.

What they meant was that they were abandoning traditional single player in favor of "single player plus"(single player with built-in social capabilities).

It would be pretty interesting if they added in Episode 3 some type of multiplayer/co-op mode where you're basically doing clean-up after C17 going kablooie and the portal getting shut down in form of taking out remaining Combine-held locations: Conversion camps, secret facilities, whole cities, stuff like that. Customization options for your MP/Co-op rebel character could be practically limitless, and Valve could find a way to partially monetize it (weight on the word partially, you can get cosmetics in TF2 and weapons skins in CS:GO as random drops).
I swear, some people mix up this thread and the actual Half Life thread.

Can't blame them, Black Mesa is the closest thing we'll get to a new Half Life for a long time, possibly forever.

i for one would actually be 100% for a half life mmo despite my first objections
TextFAMGUY1 posted another December Update thread in the BM forum, and I got to say, some of the new features they've added looks amazing:

The original HL dialogue of the scientist tells you to "put down that icty with these "tranq" darts". How then magically explode on MP is something that no one understands :v:

"They would also try and avoid their own grenades which led to some odd behaviour too. They don't do that anymore, either."
Uh
"And we also have a Singleplayer Update lined up for Content Update 2, which we suspect a lot of you have been anticipating and excited for (reiteration: it is NOT Xen!)"
Ohh, I wonder what it is.

I think this is for when they're throwing the grenade?
Dunno, I have no idea how this stuff works.

It's kinda already canon.
In Half-Life, an unused HEV Suit ammo pickup line calls the crossbow ammo "neurotoxin-treated crossbow ammunition."
did they finish xen
did they finish xen
No, but apparently they're preparing media for it.
Important Point: This update WILL NOT contain Xen. We are hard at work on Xen and are preparing media to show to you guys.
Part of me kinda hopes its polished versions of ST/OaR Uncut for the workshop.
Or better, integrated into the game (for ST uncut at least)
I don't know, it feels like it's lacking something. Mostly I just miss the dirt-and-grey colour schemes of the original map and the muted lighting.

Never thought about it before but BM's surface maps also seem much on the yellow side.
Meanwhile in Sector C...
