Black Mesa Source V5 - "They're still working on Xen?"

Y'know, even though I wasn't gonna release them at first, I was only motivated to make my arms because of the surplus of HL1-ported content and simple recolors on the Workshop. Iunno, ports and recolors are super basic and kinda meh. Especially Half-Life 1 ports where they completely clash with the visual style of the game.
Crypt I'm really looking forward about your arms with handpack, but can I sugest you something? Use the Reanimation Pack hands, I think is a better base to you put your handpack and looks better with your sleeves.
Unless you are making a new hand or using the default BMS hand.
For some reason the SP and MP shotgun worldmodels use different normal maps. I felt that the MP worldmodel's normal map looked far better, so I made a workshop addon that replaces the SP normal map with the MP one. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=571823390

for when you need your shotgun laminated
The kicker is that this month's update will include a brand new shotgun model, meaning your w_model will be out if place. :/
It is indeed a bug, and it is one which has given our programmers a huge headache for a long time - they're still working on it for CU2, in fact! There are a whole bunch of lighting issues and workarounds which are deeply interrelated within the engine code. Long story short - this bug is why we had to disable the dynamic lights from muzzle flashes/explosions. It's really complicated and confusing. Still trying to iron it out.
The bug is that the yellow light is meant to be from the rocket firing. Even though it's set to be initially dark in Hammer, it stays on regardless, thanks to a bugged interaction with info_dlightmap_manager.
I believe when the MP5 was remade, we used the proper magazine size for the MP5 ammo pickup, and nobody could ever find the damn things. So we scaled them up.
4k textures murder the engine. Yes it supports them but it is insanely taxing and the engine does not support it well. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
From what I know (and my knowledge is limited due to being a level designer and not a texture artist/programmer), even using 4 x 2048 textures is significantly preferable on Source to using a single 4096. Why this might be, I couldn't possibly tell you, but that's what I've heard from modellers and artists on many occasions.
I think our game mostly uses very appropriate texture sizes. Sure there are plenty of worse looking assets and textures throughout the game but our entire library is 10 years old. The older stuff just...looks a lot worse because it was made for older times and standards and by artists who were less experienced than they are now. It's nothing to do with us intentionally scaling things. If you look at all the new stuff the team is producing and putting out, it is pretty top notch in my opinion - we've improved a lot over the years. We've tried very hard to avoid the typical mod trappings of "every single soda can and piece of junk should have a 2048 textures", mostly because it isn't necessary. Our artists are quite mindful of stuff like this.
I can understand how 4k textures would be tax heavy but even 1k textures with detail textures would look really nice (yes I am aware that the new textures being used in multiplayer are 1k). I'm referring to map textures by the way.

Speaking of shotguns, I've been waiting for someone to tweak this skin so that it can work with Black Mesa.

(I also would like to see it work with Crypt19's Hands.)
So was there a status update about this pack recently?

Nope but I really wish we had those arm models

He quit because he REALLY didn't want to re-rig everything to the new BM:S retail rigging
So famguy said we should be expecting another teaser for the update this week
I'm trying to rig the wilson's chronicles bullsquid onto the black mesa animations. Although I have no idea how to use blender. As it is, this bullsquid looks like he's about to drop the hottest mixtape of 2015.

I'd recommend Milkshape 3D for that, it natively supports Goldsource/Source SMDs and it's fairly easy to get used to and rig with it.
He said he doesn't know how to use Blender, not that he needs recommendations on significantly less useful tools to learn instead.
Blenders' pretty easy to learn, the documentation should get you started no problem. Rigging is a bitch regardless, though. If the model's don't match well enough, you might actually have to reanimate, too, otherwise you'll get some goofy distortions and/or stretching.
Every time there's a new post here I get my hopes up because I think it might be Part 3 of the December Update.
Sorry to get your hopes up again, Kaleidescoop, but if anyone is interested in the Hazard Course remake for Black Mesa, we just announced the release date for it: December 29th, 2015.

I would really like milkshape but there's a fee for it.

Ooh, looking forward to it! Just wondering, did you ever post your sneak peak anywhere else?

It's really awesome to see that area with having to lead the guard to the scanner in Black Mesa. Just wondering, are the turrets still there that rip you to shreds if you kill him?
EDIT: Nevermind, I saw them
I only posted it on Facebook, and then the Black mesa Forums shortly after. Didn't really think it was worth posting anywhere else.
I'm waiting for Hazard course and your new arms :D
It's not Part 3, but...

That's neat
Some of the stuff I liked here:
• CROSSFIRE
• New multiplayer animation system that completely overhauls the previous one
• There will be a brand new user-content creation tool
• Teams can also be locked for competitive sessions
Update 3 going live? BM's got an update for me, 1.4 GB.
I got it as well.
Same here
Merry Christmas!
Let us know if anythings broken.

Woah, new Shotgun model.
[editline]21st December 2015[/editline]
It looks more like the Low Def HL1 model

Huh. I just realized that with the Forget about Freeman turret now being friendly, only one ceiling turret in Black Mesa is hostile to you, the first one you encounter in Office Complex. As far as I can remember the rest are now friendly, the one in Forget about Freeman and the ones guarding the Supply Depot in Lambda Core.
The shotgun model is so nice wow. Also were coming up on a new thread soon, just a heads up to who ever makes the OP
Uh... the new shotgun worldmodel keeps falling through the ground.
