Hello http://terminal.bmrf.us/ Does nothing ATM though. [editline]8th November 2013[/editline] The Lambda Logo is in the source code for the bmrf.us main page.
should we just do the arg and get it over with
the ARG has been at a stand still for months.
Finally able to actually play the first part of the OaR uncut beta without constant crashes (for some reason just playing the game up to that point has worked fine while loading from console I would crash within 2 minutes of play) and god damn is it amazing so far. I didn't realize just how much he polished it up.
You know, Surface Tension really feels like one of the least polished chapters in the game. Case in point: [t]http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/510325613762515043/BAA074D79C5A10ACA5122F9AB10E05761C351CE2/[/t] How the hell do these guys even know I'm up here? I didn't even try shooting them yet!
I'd say that's less to do with the chapter itself and more to do with the shitty AI code for their line of sight. There's basically no difference to them between 1 and 89 degrees of verticality. I guess an excuse story wise could be the guys that come out of the alcove at the top could have radio'd your position before rushing you. Or you could just say they have the autoaim from doom. Question about the mod, does anybody know how to make it possible to gib enemies with explosives when they die, like the Tau/Gluon? I've tried fiddling with the gib convars to no effect, same with damage values. I'd really like to be able to gib an enemy with a grenade that's right on him, or not have to use two satchels at the same time just to instagib someone.
I don't think I've seen a source game actually support stealthier approaches. es most source games are about actions but it wouldn't hurt to let me give them a surprise once in a while.
Man I just love their take on Questionable Ethics. Every time I replay it I'm still impressed.
I don't think I've seen a source game actually support stealthier approaches. es most source games are about actions but it wouldn't hurt to let me give them a surprise once in a while.
There are some occasions in Black Mesa where you're behind enemies and they don't notice you, but those occasions are scripted.
There's actually a little scripted stealth section in BM in On a Rail, you can sneak around back and underneath the HECU while they are talking or something like that.
Sneaking up to NPCs is possible even outside of scripted events, just crouch, or slow walk behind them.
Most of the encounters don't really give you a chance to though. Technically you can sort of make the sneaking a little better by increasing the time it takes for AI to notice you (this would give you the chance to run between cover points without being spotted) though an adverse effect of it would be that it ends up making them kind of slow to notice you at times that they would realistically react pretty quickly to your presence.
Avatars for Black Mesa got released a couple days ago:

Stealth games always have comically unaware enemies where if you saw from their POV, you'd wonder why that man was running around in the distance ducking behind crates and boxes and climbing over pillars on the roof. But in Stealth games, everyone has terrible eyesight and is too lazy to do spot checks and radio checks.

With the ERSB rating thing and the avatars... It makes me wonder... if they'll release it on November 19? The NA release date of HL1 on PC  one can only hope

If Black Mesa was close for release, it would probably be in the Steam CDR by now.

Oh yeah, and while I'm complaining about Surface Tension, the music on the first map is really badly timed. It always gets going just as I finish killing everybody, so I'm left with really fast paced and crazy music while I charge up my suit and pick up health kits.
I always just run for the bridge when that happens. Having it end as the helicopter starts firing kinda fits. So does anybody have any way to screw with the gibbing system? I would really love to have that shotgun gibbing they talked about way back.
November 19th. Calling it. Half-Life's birthday AND it's a tuesday.
November 19th. Calling it. Half-Life's birthday AND it's a tuesday.
I hope so. The devs have been so stubborn with anything relating to releases, and it hasn't been anything related to an NDA with Valve either (but they are still in one.) Maybe it wasn't the best how much they withheld info about the mod in general after they stopped releasing media, but I am 100% on board with their "nothing related to Xen" policy. I don't want a preview, I want to be completely surprised. That feeling should be there when I'm playing the game, not watching a video or seeing a picture several months before. Now DM on the other hand, they should release stuff about that.
Oh boy, time for me to get excited over nothing.
