Why was this mod a better experience than retail games with more development time?
There are barely games with such long development times. Except maybe DNF and Team Fortress 2.
How many games have had a 8 year development time? Other then Duke Nukem Forever.
But Duke Nukem Forever was shitty.
But Duke Nukem Forever was shitty.
I didn't say it wasn't, I just said don't include it because it is obvious. [editline]15th February 2014[/editline] The BM team is looking for Voice Actors for Eli Vance and HECU soldiers. http://forums.blackmesasource.com/forumdisplay.php?f=67
Glad they are listening to criticism and overhauling some of the negative points of the game.
Are they actually listening to our complaints about the HECU voices?
shall we begin page 70 of the Half-Life thread again?
Fuck, because I read that page I forgot that girl's name. What was it? Alix Vans? I'm dead serious, I really forgot it, and I'm not trying to start page 70 again :v:
Are they actually listening to our complaints about the HECU voices?
I hope they will listen to our complaints about HECU AI
"Do iittt" - EVERY FECKIN SOLDIER
"Do iittt" - EVERY FECKIN SOLDIER
Wasn't everything the soldiers in Half-Life 1 said individual words strung together? "You. Are. Going. Down. Mister. ....SHIT!" Same with the VOX announcement system. Hell, I remember modding the sounds in Team Fortress Classic so it would say "The enemy asshole captured the flag."
I hope they will listen to our complaints about HECU AI
One of the first things they stated was they're working on the AI.
I know the HECU voices are a dead-horse in this thread, but... It's just so cringeworthy how they deliver their lines. Everyone speaks with this incredibly forced, gruff tone that sounds as though they're trying to shove a turd out of their ass while issuing commands. But I do like the filter they have--like the masks are giving their voices some kind of amplification.
I have just read on the composers facebook status (from December) that he has a brain tumor. That's shit... :(
I have just read on the composers facebook status (from December) that he has a brain tumor. That's shit... :(
Guess they won't fix the music then
Guess they won't fix the music then
damn you sir https://www.facebook.com/joelnmusic
Wow, I'm bad at posting updates... Firstly: A huge thank you (again) to everyone who has supported the Black Mesa soundtrack. I am amazed how even a year later, people continue that support. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I assure you that 'support' is not being completely wasted on drugs and alcohol. (On an unrelated note, our home mortgage has been paid off.) It has been a very busy year. My wife and I had our second child, so the house is a bit crazier, and a lot louder. Those that have read the interviews know I have a brain tumor, and am often asked how it's going. I am happy to report that there is still no growth, and I continue to live 'issue free'. Thank you, God. In between my day job and all of the above, I have managed to get into the studio and work on some music. I have a few upcoming projects that should interest some of you. (Yes, including Xen!) I am excited to be able to show everyone what I've been working on for the last year. Hopefully not too much longer. Anyways, thanks for the support, the emails, the messages. You guys are awesome! Joel

"Do iittt" - EVERY FECKIN SOLDIER
I replaced their idle sounds with high-def versions of the HL1 sounds I found somewhere (I don't remember where I got them, but I was glad to have them). I'd actually forgotten they were that awful :v: Personally I'm very glad they're rethinking the voices at least. The direction they took with the HECU was awful, it was like a bad joke. i'm more concerned with instantly losing 30 armor upon direct sight with an hgrunt than their voices
i'm more concerned with instantly losing 30 armor upon direct sight with an hgrunt than their voices
ya i can't count the times that i'm going into a room with 4 grunts and my health is 5 and my armor is 0
because freeman probably caused more causalities in the military than the xen creatures did?
self defense
self defense
How many people would think about how their enemy killed hundreds of their friends during a war and just brush it off as self defense? Most probably wouldn't be so forgiving.
self defense
uh yeah that still doesn't change the fact that that would make him a pretty high priority military target
"Do iittt" - EVERY FECKIN SOLDIER
I never understood what that meant. While coming up silently from behind to a grunt he just randomly goes "DO IT" while standing completely idle. And I'm like what? Does he acknowledge I'm here? Do what?Kill you? What is even?
I'd love to try my hand at doing a voice, but my voice is crap. I'm 23 and I sound like a 16 year old neck-beard, what the hell :v: That and I don't know if my mic is quality enough, or that my neighbors or housemates (both with small children) would appreciate me yelling obscenities repeatedly.

Fuck Half-Life, making the HECU saturday morning cartoon villains hurt the mod itself.
Just got the GameInformer magazine with the Black Mesa article; it was a very interesting read. It's crazy how much the devs have gone through in the game's development.
Fuck Half-Life, making the HECU saturday morning cartoon villains hurt the mod itself.
Well that's why they're making new voices, I'd imagine. In fact, this happened to:

I mean, they're all doing this in their spare time and some of them have jobs at major game studios!
This is interesting, dev update http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?t=17801 [editline]3rd March 2014[/editline] He posted comparisons on post 4.
