Valve time? :v:
That's slightly better than Duke Nukem Forever Time. (which conjures the Duke Nukem 3D theme in my head when I read/hear about it)
Stanley Parable has stock props from CS:S in it still.
It has props from a lot of stuff. And materials.
And a lot of stuff.

It also does a few neat tricks with the Source Engine that surprised me.
There's this one thing in Black Mesa I can't get my finger on.
In the begin of the game you see CRT monitors everywhere, and since Questionable Ethics you see LCD monitors and TVs which are from mid 2004-2006.
I know it's pure nitpickery but it doesn't seem to make sense to me. Valve's aim was to make the game date in the 90's (not meaning the release date), wasn't it?

Half-Life takes place in 20XX.
Yeah, there is no specific date.

As was said above, it takes place sometime before 2010. Besides being there to obscure the time period, it probably also serves to show the disparity in funding between the different sectors of Black Mesa, with the teleportation and alien biology departments receiving way more.
That's what I always thought, at least.
It takes place between 2000 and 2009, seeing as an old texture gives us "200X" printed on it.
The reason some areas use CRT and others use LCD is because the labs using CRT are older, they're still bright and sterile, but they're still 90's as best. Businesses aren't like consumers, they don't get new monitors because they look better, they use the old ones until they burn out, same for the older computers seen everywhere. Afaik some places still use reel-to-reel computers, because they still work.
The Anomalous Materials Lab uses older equipment because it still works, and they aren't funded as well. It's obvious they need new equipment since their stuff is being pushed to the limit and beyond. On the other hand, the Advanced Biological Research Lab is clearly much newer, much better funded, and much more high-tec. New lab and more funds also means newer equipment, so that's why you find LCD screens and modern computers there.
when the game came out, i loved this game so much, i have been waiting for 10 years to play it, it was initially released in september 12th 2012, can't wait to see xen, gonarch and cute little baby headcrabs, Nihilanth and all that xen stuff.. and was there ever gonna be an high def pack m4 weapon in addition to the mp5 or did they decide to feature only the mp5
Early on they planned on having both but scrapped the idea because of coding issues or something.
Completely unrelated, have a model WIP

Are they still working on Xen?

Black Mesa Source V5 - "They're still working on Xen?"
It took me one year and a half to discover that Mesa Remixes are just original songs that are reversed, lowered in pitch and slowed down. Damn.

It took me one year and a half and one day to discover that, you beat me
when are we going to get a silenced pistol as alternate attack for a normal pistol
[editline]24th March 2014[/editline]
check out this cool video of the hazard course level that Huehnchen made https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lxQQa6ALLw, if he joins crowbar collective, he might put this in black mesa
when are we going to get a silenced pistol as alternate attack for a normal pistol
We wont because it wasn't in the original Half-Life.
oh, because it mimics the original half-life, yeah i get it
We wont because it wasn't in the original Half-Life.
There was in Team Fortress Classic, but it was a tranquilizer gun firing a slow moving projectile. For the Spy, I believe.
It doesn't fit in Half-Life's gameplay.
That's the end of it.

B-But the Assassins!
I might get to work on replacing some weapon sounds/footsteps/player with the old ones, if anyone is interested
[editline]24th March 2014[/editline]
I'll start anyways, I'm not much of a fan of the new MP5 and shotty sounds.
what did the alternate pistol fire even do in the original half-life?
what did the alternate pistol fire even do in the original half-life?
continuous fire iirc
Yeah in HL1 it was just auto-fire, but it was less than half the accuracy of normal fire and only slightly faster. It was only really useful in the early game if you ended up within melee range of an enemy with your pistol out.
we have rapid fire integrated now anyway so it doesn't matter
bkdale86 just released his new work.
For this week we have moved from AM to UC. Keep in mind this isn't a exhaustive list of the props that are added just a sampling. The main major changes model wise were the additions of all the cabinets into AM/UC. After I got done with what I thought was all the cabinets, Jonathan pointed out that there were just the Pre-RC ones. Yay.....so I had to go back and rework some of the models to be more broken down and smashed up fpr UC. The result is the first series of pictures from lab 3. The first is just a screen gram from the modeling program and the 2nd is a render of the final model in toolbag. Once it's in game you realize 90% of the players won't even see the cabinet lol.
I just decided to split this up a bit by pictures. Along with making new models I have been going back and adding some details into some of our really old low poly models. The wall cable shown earlier really made a nice improvement, so this weekend I did the ceiling cable. The first image shows the differences. The improved model looks a lot more rounded without getting into really high poly counts for a small prop. The 2nd image is showing the replacement model. It was compiled so that it just shows up as the replacement for the old model without having to place them all again. So I'm running through UC looking at all the changes and I see the 3rd image. It is creatively used by the LD but really looks bad as a model. I don't know if it shows but you can see inside the model and through it because of the backface culling. Which led to the 4th picture. Basically its the base model copied several times and then repostioned to actually look like it has had a lot of tension placed on it then snapped allowing the wires to retract a bit in their brackets.
Liked the old hud more
Well I actually liked both of them imo.
I like the stocky bold counter. Fits better with the nineties aesthetic of the game.
The problem with adding so many props is that props in Source have shit lighting and don't render shadows properly on brushwork. If they're getting a custom version of the engine, I hope that's one of the things they fix. It's a giant problem in Source which is pretty much a non-problem in any other modern engine these days.
