Black Mesa Source V5 - "They're still working on Xen?"

Media once again:
Time for another small update. This weekend was spent prototyping and then getting things in game. I'll let you guess what was added to the level, should be really easy. These models were made with a generator program that is since been taken down (no idea why). It was completely free and easy to work with. Because of the number of models involved the hardest part is making the model look good but keeping the poly count low. It was much easier with the skybox version. (I'll reveal more later after its in game.) Anyway take a guess :P
Thanks for uploading these updates to the thread, official Black Mesa forums are blocked here at work, so I can't look them up.
By the way, wasn't there a pre-release screenshot that looked a lot like this one?

EDIT: Oh, I guess I'm stupid
Anyone have some before shots for comparison? I'm too lazy to look.

Here.
The left side is from the mod and the right side is from the developer who posted the screenshots.

If anyone played the mod HL: Visitors, that screen looks like it's a recreation of the entrance hall at the beginning of the game.
Fucking bushes. That's what's different. I mean, cool, more variety of plants... but fucking bushes.

Screw you, bushes are cool.

Yeah, I love some bush.
george w. or herbert h.w.
That joke caused physical pain.
It would have been nice if the screenshots were the same size & same position/angle so the differences would be more obvious.
They changed the foliage
They literally tell you that's the only thing they changed
I really hope they add more soda can brands to the vending machines and different cups, that always bugged me.
They changed the foliage

Is it just me, or do the before pictures look better? The new foliage is too green and bushy, looks weird in a new mexico desert

You're thinking of the Arizona desert that's colorless and barren.
-snipped pictures-
you got me there, but then that still seems weird because in the new screenshots, for the most part everything IS barren like an Arizona dessert, but then there's an occasional patch of bushes. Looks out of place
have they finished the xen part yet
have they finished the xen part yet
yea
yea
really? since when? is it downloadable yet?
really? since when? is it downloadable yet?
No they have not.
Hey, so I've been hunting everywhere for a link to this vortigaunt reskin by Joazzz in the last version of the thread:
http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1221980&p=40183984&viewfull=1#post40183984
[IMG_thumb]http://files.1337upload.net/vort.png[/IMG_thumb]
Does anybody know where I could find this beauty? Joazzz, please? You may not think it's so great, but I consider the skin perfect!

Been trying to find that myself, I wish he put it on gamebanana
So by the way, I finally messaged the guy and he responded back by saying that the files are on his old PC's hard drive.
They're safe, but inaccessible, because he doesn't have any kind of adapter to plug it into his laptop. As soon as he can
access the HDD again, "rest assured i'm digging out that stuff and releasing it for others to use". Yay!

Oh for Pete's sake, all it takes is to copy model and textures from source models.gcf and source materials.gcf. Luckily, BM stores vort animations in a separate file.

Just download Source SDK Base 2006 and go to vpks folder. Materials are stored in depot_206.vpk (former source materials.gcf), models are stored in depot_207.vpk (former source models.gcf).
The one he wants has the Episode 2 style shader.
Yeah, that method's a good idea but unfortunately it's not compatible with the Half-Life 2 animations. I'm looking for a replacement
to both Black Mesa and Half-Life 2, ever since Valve updated the latter with the new Source version.
I thought about this years ago and it was working fine when I tried it out, until the start of Route Canal, when the second vort in the
game needs to power up your suit to move on: "Meanwhile, let my Vortigaunt friend here give you a jolt to get you going."
". . . ." There's just an awkward silence as you contemplate his unforgiving feelings towards you.
Oh, and it's a different skin.

Just don't copy over Anims, Gestures and Postures and it will work fine. The problem is not incompatibility, the problem is that that after OB engine update Vortigaunt uses new healing animations which old mdl files, specified before, lack. Old model appears to be working fine with new animations as well as BM animations.

Not a problem either, use BM's vmt file with vortigaunt_base changed to vortigaunt_sheet: http://pastebin.com/u939019H
This is how it looks in-game:

You can try tweaking $phongboost and $rimlightboost parameters to regulate how shiny he is.
[editline]22nd June 2014[/editline]
Old model with $phongboost and $rimlightboost reduced to 1:

You should probably leave $rimlightboost at 3, otherwise rim lighting becomes barely noticable.
I'm just gonna leave these new screenshots here for now. Enjoy. ;)
Well lots of work over the last 2 days on the canyon. I got the skybox prop compiled and in game and while it looked good there was WAY too many trees. So I removed about 2/3 of them and added some more rock to break it up. It also turned up that we ran into lots of lighting issues using the multimodel approach to the bushes. So we are going to use single placed bushes.
Well, almost. I didn't want to make a big deal out of this, so I apologize for the following.
Just don't copy over Anims, Gestures and Postures and it will work fine. Ah cool, I tried leaving the Anims but I didn't do Gestures and Postures, thanks for the suggestion. Still, I think you left out the last part of my post.
So, what you really meant was: "Oh for Pete's sake, all it takes is to copy the model and textures from source models.gcf and source materials.gcf, which requires
you download the Source SDK Base 2006 and find the VPKs folder to locate the materials, stored in depot_206.vpk, and models, stored in depot_207.vpk, making sure
not to copy over the Anims, Gestures and Postures files from the old model, and to use Black Mesa's vmt file with vortigaunt_base changed to vortigaunt_sheet here:
http://pastebin.com/u939019H and then tweak the $phongboost and $rimlightboost parameters, preferably leaving the latter at 3, to regulate how shiny he is."?
No offense, but I seem to be the only one who can tell the difference between the two skins. If I did everything you mentioned above, I would still need to change the
eyeball texture, Photoshop the two main body sheets together to try and balance the mix of roughness from the original with the smooth surface of the new, and hope
that the result matches up with the light, tone and texture of Joazzz's version. If that is "all it takes", then I just don't have the skills and time required. I wish I did. :(
