Well, almost. I didn't want to make a big deal out of this, so I apologize for the following. Ah cool, I tried leaving the Anims but I didn't do Gestures and Postures, thanks for the suggestion. Still, I think you left out the last part of my post. So, what you really meant was: "Oh for Pete's sake, all it takes is to copy the model and textures from source models.gcf and source materials.gcf, which requires you download the Source SDK Base 2006 and find the VPKs folder to locate the materials, stored in depot_206.vpk, and models, stored in depot_207.vpk, making sure not to copy over the Anims, Gestures and Postures files from the old model, and to use Black Mesa's vmt file with vortigaunt_base changed to vortigaunt_sheet here: http://pastebin.com/u939019H and then tweak the $phongboost and $rimlightboost parameters, preferably leaving the latter at 3, to regulate how shiny he is."? No offense, but I seem to be the only one who can tell the difference between the two skins. If I did everything you mentioned above, I would still need to change the eyeball texture, Photoshop the two main body sheets together to try and balance the mix of roughness from the original with the smooth surface of the new, and hope that the result matches up with the light, tone and texture of Joazzz's version. If that is "all it takes", then I just don't have the skills and time required. I wish I did. :( Nice! I really like the the depth you added with the atmosphere here.
"All it takes" was only referrining to my first post since I didn't notice that it wasn't just an old model.
didnt he do a reskin? I have it somewhere in a big pack of mods i put together long time ago along with a pretty sexy headcrab if you really want it. let me know.
You mean this one? http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1221980&p=40162317&viewfull=1#post40162317 Already have it, it's a great headcrab. Another skin I think is definitely worth considering (for Half-Life purists) is this: http://blackmesa.gamebanana.com/skins/126897 [t]http://files.gamebanana.com/img/ss/skins/51c18ab3e1036.jpg[/t]
"All it takes" was only referrining to my first post since I didn't notice that it wasn't just an old model.
Oh okay, that's fine. I hope I didn't come across as rude, I was just trying to make the point that they are pretty different skins, though I guess it's pretty subtle differences overall.
Added some AO to the rocks to make it blend better and darkened the textures.
So what does A.O. stand for?
So what does A.O. stand for?
Ambient Occlusion.
Damn, I already knew that. I'm retarded.
Here is another media from our friend bkdale86. Enjoy. ;)
What most of you haven't pointed out is how badly the bushes were lit...... It is a real problem doing foliage in source. Mark Foreman pointed me to some ideas on it in the polycount wiki. I couldn't get my new version of Max to run the scripts without crashes or just plain failing to load them. So I remodeled the bushes. Then spent 2.5 hours on a skype call with Bjorn to finally get the problem fixed. Here is the result. The lighting isn't perfect but its much better.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/reSVFke.jpg[/t] [t]https://i.imgur.com/yA6pjBq.jpg[/t] [t]https://i.imgur.com/Xq67x0B.jpg[/t] [t]https://i.imgur.com/fn2jmdr.jpg[/t] http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showpost.php?p=583179&postcount=32 Edit:
We had some clipping models in the skybox that needed to be removed so I took the opportunity to trade out the near and mid range bush models and rescale them so they blend in better. I think it makes a huge difference along with alphatocoverage.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/mwgGEMX.jpg[/t] http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showpost.php?p=583226&postcount=36
Good god that looks amazing.
Here is a new media once again everyone. Enjoy. ;)
So this week was all about being on vacation lol. I did try to make time for redos on the general prop list. Since production has been over 12 years some props look really low poly next to some of the newer ones. Hopefully we can get most of them replaced before release. This is a 3 part prop that can be used in many combinations. I started with the old model and just basically detailed it. There was quite a bit of unused UV space so it was easy to fit in the details. Also its not shown ATM but the screens will also have several options based on what the LD wants. So this is the left and right parts, the center will be done next. The keyboards were very low poly like under 20 on the old model, the new is all poly lol at around 1k. Will spread that around by using it all over. Left side. The base texture was reused with the new details added onto the old. This should also fit into the newer look for the props that I have been posting.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/XGYvdBy.jpg[/t]
Right side.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/UoJ8R88.jpg[/t]
These are WIP obviously and are NOT finished. These JUST have diffuse with nothing else. Old versions
[t]https://i.imgur.com/WXfihIl.jpg[/t] [t]https://i.imgur.com/6TcRPPn.jpg[/t] http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?t=18523
So I know Xen got a bit of hate for being different, but does anyone else hope they lengthen it a bit? It's so incredibly short it's like we don't really get to experience an alien world.
They said they're taking their own spin on Xen.
They said they're taking their own spin on Xen.
That can mean a million things tho.
I said congratulations to the black mesa source team, they made a excellent work. I'm waiting impatiently for the Xen render with the source. =)
That can mean a million things tho.
If I remember correctly, some of the developers have implied that it's being very heavily expanded upon, and I think I remember it being implied to be considered far more than just a few final chapters. Though don't quote me, as that was around release and my memory could be incorrect.
xen felt like a mario 64 reject
I actually quite liked Xen's platforming. The only thing that really stands out to me as sub-par was figuring out what the hell you were even supposed to be doing, and a couple of the maps seemed too open and cyclical(?) leaving you wandering around in circles lost, only to find a tiny opening hidden by the art style.
Xen felt like proper confusing alien whatthefuckery. Only annoying thing was some of the jumping shit.
Hopefully they remember to keep Xen's really surreal, otherdimensional qualities instead of turning it into just another alien world.
I think in Questionable Ethics one of the whiteboards says planet. I'm hoping that we're supposed to know that's wrong and a misconception of the survey teams. I'd kinda like to find a single living scientist hiding in some little corner.
Theres always that guy in the Nihilanth's Garg chamber.
Here is more from bkdale86.
Finally got around to finishing the center/middle terminal in this set. Here is a completely new update from Cpl.1nsane. Enjoy ;)
Black Mesa: Fix all the things #2 Some other improvements I have worked on over the past year have been visual additions to a few of our maps, one from the chapter Residue Processing and another from Forget About Freeman. What was interesting about two of the maps is that they were missing detail sprites. I’d noticed over the course of fixing other things the compile log complaining about the detail sprite and detail texture settings not being defined correctly. I’d always passed this off as being intentional but decided to give them a try anyway to see what the results would be. After a bit of tweaking I was surprised with the improvement it brought to the two areas in question and elected to keep it as is. Perhaps in the future there might be cause to revisit the actual detail sprites they use as im sure other improvements can always be made. Right now as it stands it plays in part of the chapter We’ve Got Hostiles but I would like to add bits of it to other chapters where appropriate (places like PU and BP) In the video I am firing the speaker to play more rapidly to give an impression of the vox, so it wouldn’t play as frequently as that.
http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?p=584880
All they added was plants to those maps?
I didn't noticed at first during "the pre-disaster" stage, but later I missed a lot the VOX announcements.
The post-military VOX really sounds awesome, I was dissapointed there wasn't more of it in the original release.
All they added was plants to those maps?
But this enhancement is million times better than HL2CM "enhancements" with foliage and pines planted at all the wasteland. :v:
Chances are, that's not all he did, but it's the most noticeable change, and the difference is pretty obvious so why not show it?
I've been playing Black Mesa again and I can't help but narrate everything internally like it was Freeman's Mind.
The post-military VOX really sounds awesome, I was dissapointed there wasn't more of it in the original release.
to me, it sounds too much like just some 20 year old trying to sound threatening
to me, it sounds too much like just some 20 year old trying to sound threatening
it should sound more monotone and robotic, like the original one. [editline].[/editline] it's still pretty well made though
I hear most of the post military takeover VOX lines were accidentally deleted from the final version with the program the devs used to automatically remove all the unused content.
