Black Mesa Source V5 - "They're still working on Xen?"

The leeches got deleted too by accident.
No, the leeches were intentionally cut because during playtesting players got confused as to what was hurting them, and once they figured it out often wasted their ammo and lost health in chapters that had relatively little ammo and health to begin with.
Why would they need to remake the VOX lines anyways? Couldn't they just leave them the same, like they did with the HEV suit?
No, they're only legally allowed to use content included with the Source SDK base. Those lines are not included, so they're not allowed to be distributed.
If they're charging for the Steam release i'm hoping they'll get rid of all the shitty stock left overs from Half-Life 2 and replace them with original high quality ones that fit the environment better.
If they're going commercial, it's almost definite that they have to replace all stock Source SDK Base content with their own content, so you can probably rejoice!

They used vorts/ lotsa HL2 stuff though
Because that's included in the SDK base.
I'm sure Valve wouldn't mind any ways. They get a cut of the profits.

Yeah, they could just use the old voice lines in the commercial release if they cut a deal with Valve.
Heh. You gotta remember Valve is a company, and Source is a commercial product that requires licensing, and Half-Life 1 and its content is their legal IP. I find it at least a bit unlikely that they'd just let some team use their work because they "get a cut of the profits," without further licensing and legal hassle.

False. There are tons of indie and even AAA source games that use Valve content. Stanley Parable, for example, basically only uses Valve stuff. SiN Episodes has a bunch of stuff from Half-Life 2. The other day I noticed a few Half-Life 2 models in Titanfall. Valve doesn't really care.

Titanfall uses the pink&black checkerboard texture.
-Snip, bad reading on my part-

Isn't that just a thing that happens when using the source engine?

No it's an actual texture.
I know that ZombiU launch title game uses hl2 blood textures.

They reused the Gman/Scientist convo from HL1, (go ahead and listen, it's clearly the exact same sound files.)
So if this game works on a most up to date version of source dose that mean we will get a new version SDK along with it?
Also how closely is valve working with crowbar collective if at all?

I'm going based on the info our team was given by Valve during arrangements, it's possible they're lenient about it, or other dev teams got different agreements.

Whether they did reuse those files or not, it's still against the law, and also goes against the reasoning they gave when asked about reusing HL1 content (specifically the HEV suit sounds, even).
Well they're specifically remaking HL1, so they would need to come to some agreement about the IP.
Wasn't it basicaly Valve that convinced the team to do the retail version in the first place?

From what I remember reading on the official forums, they had to go retail in order to put it on steam.
They were Greenlit back around release, so the mod likely was going to be on Steam no matter what.

I mean I remember reading that valve actually suggested to make it a paid product so they at least got some money for their effort.

We are also re-recording the HEV suit lines too.

Is it because you want new voice lines or because they're ripped from HL?
I have a baaad feelings about this
I'm surprised that some of the developers are even on this forum
I hope this game gets finished around time for Half-Life 3 to get announced, need to binge through the series again.
Is it because you want new voice lines or because they're ripped from HL?
Both.
I hope this will fix the crashing I get when too much stuff is going on. I would love to give them money if they work that out.
Indeed it shall. We will also be patching up the free/mod version as well. There is no current time frame I can disclose.
It's also worth mentioning that with the payed version the team will have access to more source code and can actually fix issues instead of whatever circumvention or hackish workarounds they had to deal with before. Also, I think I recall some of them saying they're looking into things like Workshop support.
That we surely are my friend. We are working very hard, with the resources and codebase that we have, to make a truly meaningful retail release.
Are they going to make every model in the game have more polygons? I know they want to make it look better but I hope it doesn't eat up too much time. We already got a very large portion of BM but I hope we won't have to wait super long for Xen.
We have a select few working on these enhancements which in no way affects our overall goals. The enhancement team's job is to do just that, until it's time.
god i hope the steam version of black mesa gets a separate mods folder
It will be treated just like any other retail game on steam, with it's own separate application folder.
my question is how Xen has taken this long, it was really only a few levels and then the game completed.
Some of us see it as a game in itself.
