grunts mention shepard in blue shift so there was room for it but race-x ruined it it doesn't feel believable that gordon or barney never ran into them even though all 3 protagonists were more or less in the same facility. and without any remote sign or reference at all in hl2
Well You run in to gordon right before he jumps in the portal. I imagine Shepperd was never brought up in HL2 because there was no need to. As for Race-X well you got me there.
Honestly, didn't the PCV just look like a bullet-proof vest? There really wasn't anything memorable about it except for a dumb little pda thing on it.
Yeah, not really only a bullet-proof vest... I mean, in the game history works exactly like the HEV suit, can be charged, bullet-proof vests no, work in dangerous environments, bullet-proof vests no The PCV is simply a military adaptation of HEV technology, carry more weapons, has NV and no flashlight is also rechargeable at civilian, military or government electrical chargers, including those that are designed specifically for HEV Suits.
Race X only showed up after Barney and Gordon left BM, which is why the player never meets them in either game.
barney lost consciousness after the elevator crash and the grunts reference shepard early in BS (duty calls) shepard would definitely have arrived to the area where he first sees a shocktrooper before barney is done in BS. it just can't work. the best thing you can do is pretend a soldier named shepard existed and the black ops bombed black mesa.

Plus didn't someone at valve say they were going to do something with Shepperd.
Well Laidlaw said if he would consider taking anything from OP4, it would be the nuking of Black Mesa at the end.
the 'pack' will release with a new set of arms based on (but not a 100% replicated. because those triangle knuckles are weird) the original LD mark iv

Based on LD arms would be awesome. From what I understand the idea of the original arms LD (REALLY Old BMS screenshots) was look something like "fiberglass" or something.
I'm sorry, but what's LD?
I'm sorry, but what's LD?
Low-Definition. Original retail models.
I'm sorry, but what's LD?
Probably the low definition version of models from the original release. Some of BM's stuff is modelled after the HD pack. The Tau and M4 come to mind.
Am I the only one who wants a model pack based on the weapons in Sven Co-op.
Am I the only one who wants a model pack based on the weapons in Sven Co-op.
Personally I didn't like the HD sven-coop weapons.
Pretty much everything in BMS is toned down to be more boring.
If they just get rid of those dumb faces I will be happy. They look disgusting and pretty much the same with a slight reskin.

Booooriiiiing. On the subject of Op4, it seemed like Gearbox just wanted to do their own thing without having to worry about a coming up with a good story arc and game mechanics. Much of Race-X is just recycled HL code.

I get what you mean. I do think BM's move towards a bit more realism lost some style in some areas, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's largely toned back and made boring.
Well You run in to gordon right before he jumps in the portal. I imagine Shepperd was never brought up in HL2 because there was no need to. As for Race-X well you got me there.
I still feel like they at least could've had Shepard working for the rebels as a general or something, or maybe even have him working for the combine in Half-Life 2 or something, but I assume that Valve probably wanted to keep him out of it in case they wanted to have him as the protagonist of an expansion so they put him off to the side for later.
The PCV is simply a military adaptation of HEV technology, carry more weapons, has NV and no flashlight is also rechargeable at civilian, military or government electrical chargers, including those that are designed specifically for HEV Suits.
But does it change the way the vest even looks? This all started with bucabuca saying getting rid of the PCV changes the style.
Race X only showed up after Barney and Gordon left BM, which is why the player never meets them in either game.
How boringly convenient & coincidental.
That's what happens you have modelers that don't believe Opposing Force was canon.
Like others mentioned, aesthetically the PCV and original designs even were pretty simple. Even if they don't think Opposing Force is canon, they could've just stuck to something resembling the original game's designs. Instead, the BMS team decided to give the marines modern gear and then mix and match SD and HD styles to their own personal tastes while leaving both 1990's and semi-modern tech all over in the art design. I could bring up arguments about game design in subjectivity, but I think a lot of people can agree that some of the art choices in Black Mesa were.. odd, sometimes downright inconsistent.
Though since he was employed by G-Man he could be anywhere and I dough the would just make him a basic rebel. Then again we have no way of knowing if he is one of the rebels, maybe he was Lazlo the whole time. I always thought it would be cool to have a mod were Shepperd is doing the G-Mans work in the combine controlled America or something. I think that's what Opposing Force 2 (R.I.P) was going for though...
I tried to make a reskin for the HEV charger. I still want to improve a little.
Outside of the H.E.C.U., the other design change that annoyed me was putting the eyes of the bullsquid over his head instead of being at their sides. Why.
I totally agree.
Because they wanted them to be more like alligators. I don't mind it.
I don't really care either way, its a very insignificant thing you hardly notice when you are just playing the game. Its not like the entire alien was changed, the eyes were just moved around.

All areas where you would expect to have to look at for other players are very well-lit with a plain yellow tone. That particular red wall is lit like it is because it's pretty and it's not where the majority of the action would be, if any to speak of. It's mostly out of the way, why not decorate it? Regardless, the point was about it not being boring, not optimal for competitive gameplay (whether it actually is or not). I could offer these, to further drive the point home. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/yjxtUdH.png[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://wiki.blackmesasource.com/images//2/25/BMSBackground1.jpg[/img_thumb]
it's not about simply being lit well, you also have to be careful not to bombard the player with contrasting lights in an already busy scene because then it'll take attention away from more important things and also make forms harder to detect when there's no areas to rest your eyes on [editline]4th August 2014[/editline] there's a reason why there's an entire profession dedicated to lighting in video games and why a lot of environment artists are learned in composition
