Black Mesa Source V5 - "They're still working on Xen?"

Try increasing contrast in Romka's models' normal maps and see what they look like. also try overlaying the normal maps (make overlay layer black & white) to the main texture itself. I do that when the main tex is blurry.
BTW, BM's default marine camo isn't really black & white. It has a bluish tint with it.
Help why are they shiny, what did I fuck up?

The most recent thing I did was edit the existing normal map and re-vtf it, because I can't generate a decent one on my own.
I took the normal map and pasted it in paint.net, then messed with it for awhile before changing it to 2064x2064 (to make it easy to work with, as the texture is that size). I copied the HECU Logo and embossed it, then used VTFEdit to create a normal map version of it (using the default settings, see link). Then I pasted that into the normal and moved it into position, then saved the normal as a tga and imported it with these settings. Last I exported it with a misspelled name, and corrected the typo by renaming the file rather than making a new one. When looking for problems between the two, I noticed I forgot to check "normal mapping", and did that. Another one () was ticked, but is untickable for me.
Also ignore the other bugs on the SL, cigar is unfixable without editing the model (will have to be removed) and that texture is an old one.
Is it me or they looked better and will be even more better wih phong fixed?
the normal map's alpha channel (or mask, whatever) controls the intensity of the phong shaders across the texture. since the alpha channel is now white, all parts are equally shiny

I think you need a nap.

Afraid to say that can't be it. It has the same alpha channel as the original (except in 2048).

Wait it is fixed, I misspelled the name again so it didn't replace the old file. I'm a fucking genius :v:

you're lucky you didn't keep racking your brain and trying different methods for days and THEN find out the file was misspelled
god that hurts
Almost done, just gotta correct the colouring of the helmets. I might make them grey, but I'm not sure yet.

I did these at my own leisure according to my own taste (also for practice), but should I release them?
I'm gonna have to take out the Hgrunt's Killer Crane idle sound because it's too long :c
I like the energy sounds. Kind of reminds me of District 9.
This video used to be private and just for developer giggles and nostalgia, but now that Black Mesa has been released for a while.. I thought I'd switch it to Public =]
I captured and archived this build of Black Mesa in early 2006. At this point, the mod has been in development for 1 1/2 years, but we were only just now starting to fill critical roles and really pick up speed as a team.
You can see extremely early versions of Anomalous Materials, the Test Chamber, We've got Hostiles, Office Complex, Forget about Freeman and Lambda Core. At this point the level designers were focused on spicing up the original Half-Life layout and art style... which is why there are no NPCs in any of the maps.
So there you go, a snapshot of a game still 6 years away from release.
Isn't that the same build that was leaked years ago?
Huh, it's really interesting how different it was, yet how much the same it was as well.

Thanks for releasing 'em, they're pretty cool!
So I've begun the process of touching up Surface Tension Uncut again. Having had the time to soak up a lot of the feedback from the wider community (particularly LPers on Youtube), and having had the time to sit back and rejuvenate my ideas, I've seen a lot of weaknesses in my own work, which I can fix. I've improved a lot as a mapper even since the release of ST Uncut, due to my work on OaR Uncut, so I believe now I can make it even better.
I have to say I didn't foresee this happening. I'm in the middle of my final exams (which finish next Friday, whoopee!), and I've really seriously burned out on the work for OaR Uncut. I literally cannot bring myself to work on B2 anymore, so I figure taking a long break from it will help me in the long term. I will resume work on OaR Uncut in 2 weeks time, but until then I'll be doing stuff on ST Uncut again.
I'm just begging to have my heart broken here, but I'm going to do it anyway, in the interest of progress. I've seen a fair few negative comments on here after the final release. I'm doing my best to address everything I can, so if anyone has anything constructive to say about the maps, I'd love to hear your thoughts. It would be worth remembering, however, that "major overhauls," are not likely.
Thanks everyone. If you'd like to have a more detailed dialogue, I'm much more active on the Black Mesa forums.
Personally, I am not upset at all about you going back and fixing stuff up after listening to feedback. I actually really respect you for taking the time to ensure everything you make is as good as it can be. Also, of course, for even doing all this in the first place, which is absolutely ridiculous on its own.
I messed up the bullsquid skin! Please help! I need the default bullsquid skin. Thank you!
Didn't you do this with the scientists too? Gotta remember those backups :v:
Luckily I have an entire fresh install of Black Mesa on my storage drive, as one big backup. Here you go: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/87931465/bullsquid.rar

The thing is: I accidentally put my custom skin in the backup folder :V

Accidents happen. I once accidentally overwrote some music I was working on by installing something over it. No previous version, the only backup was an old version. Ended up digging it out of my temp folder, which I was very pleased that a copy happened to end up in there.

suggestion for black mesa v6 thread title "Isn't waiting nice?"
Like we'll ever get far enough to warrant another thread.
