I was wondering, because Valve gave their blessing on the mod and it's also greenlit, would Valve actually arrange gman's voice actor (Michael Shapiro) for the mod? That would be really awesome, having him repeat his famous words from the original game. "Gordon Freeman, in the flesh. Or rather in the hazard suit."
Their G-Man sounds spot on, you can hear him in the 2009 trailer, that isn't a sound clip from Episode 2 And I find it unlikely they will use any of actual original voice actors.
Honestly, I think people have the right to complain about this mods timing. It was 3 years late to begin with, and when they did release it it wasn't even the full game.
I hope they'll change the crowbar swinging animation in the steam release. Gordon whacks at stuff as if it was a paper towel tube that and Eli's painfully not-black-guy voice are the only things that ever really bugged me
To be fair an almost instant animation from click to hit would be like that one. That's why the Half-Life 2 animations were cut so short, and it only made sense in Half-Life 1 because in there animations were all over the place and didn't have proper code-driven inbetween animation.

The devs spent 8 years working on it and nobody has to give them anything back. Sure people have the right to complain, but they'd be pretty selfish to do it.

And the only real reason I say that it gives people the right to complain isn't because it took a while to come out, but the fact that they gave a release date that was years off and gave no info afterwards. Also they're gonna begin selling BM don't forget, so yeah.
that and Eli's painfully not-black-guy voice are the only things that ever really bugged me
They're recasting him.

Once people start having to pay for the game and the devs don't live up to deadlines, I can totally understand being mad at them.
You also have to remember they are also still working on the mod version as well, which is on an older version of the engine, so it has different capabilities. The steam version is the only one getting all the upgraded models you've seen posted.
I'm just rly curious about how many people will actually pirate the commercial version anyway... I feel bad for them. They definitely deserve the money. Some people just don't see all the efforts behind this, thinking that it's just they will be milking money. And very often, people seem to forget about the fact running a bussiness is risk and they need to invest money to it, before they get some money back (maybe)...
Well they have not announced the price yet, but last we've heard: "Soon you'll see Black Mesa available on Steam for a relatively low price." http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?t=17088

probably $10
maybe $14.99 would work, but $59.99 is not a good price for an average game
Id imagine fifteen or twenty dollars.
Black Mesa SFM DLC is out and there is Xen stuff in it
Might be late, but just an FYI to people, xen stuff was IN THE MOD. There are certain rooms in black mesa where part of "xen" has teleported in and you'll find xen stuff there. (forgot where in the mod it was exactly)
Questionable Ethics I think.
Also that once spot with the vorts during the resonance cascade looked a little Xeny. I'd pay up to $20 for the game, any more and I's wait on a sale.
Their G-Man sounds spot on, you can hear him in the 2009 trailer, that isn't a sound clip from Episode 2
Wow, I never knew that. On the other hand, it's kind of hard to make out the voice because of all the filters
Wow, I never knew that. On the other hand, it's kind of hard to make out the voice because of all the filters
What is also neat, is their Gman actor is also their Barney actor, like with the actual Half-life :v:

Also I heard the SFM thing has actual Xen maps in it.
Theyre rooms for studying Xen biology. Also I heard the SFM thing has actual Xen maps in it.
No it doesn't. [editline]25th August 2014[/editline] In fact, it doesn't even look like it comes with every map in the mod.
I have a feeling those Xen rooms are placeholders and they most likely are updated togheter with the Xen update.
They still look really good though
No it doesn't. [editline]25th August 2014[/editline] In fact, it doesn't even look like it comes with every map in the mod.
yep, youre right there. There's only the inbound/testchamber maps+destroyed variants, blast pit, questionable ethics, and surface tension.
I have a feeling those Xen rooms are place holders and they most likely are updated together with the Xen update.
They are, it was confirmed a while back. Actual Xen will look different.
So wouldn't that mean they would extend the intro a little bit, to show the bullsquid pool part?
So wouldn't that mean they would extend the intro a little bit, to show the bullsquid pool part?
I forgot that was missing. It was in the leaked images a couple years back, but everything was black with water. They must have remove it for the release version to hide how Xen will look.
They are, it was confirmed a while back. Actual Xen will look different.
So what your saying is, Xen is so secret that the only Xen stuff in the mod is all basically smoke and mirrors for the real, rad as hell Xen?
Well the Xen in the mod was a "Simulated environment" for the subjects they captured. So it will look different.
Friends, friends, you are rushing, of course they can use one or another asset in Xen, like that strange flowers or something, maybe some textures, but I'm pretty sure it will be just 0.1% of the entire xen flora. I mean, Xen is HUGE, probably have a lot in nature, so a little detail or other previously used will not matter. And from what we saw at the Black Mesa, they actually expanded a lot the complex,so it is expected they will do exactly the same with Xen. Giving us the feeling that everything is bigger than just what we see. And for being one dimension / planet / border world probably the feeling of immersion and the commitment to build that environment will be infinitely greater.
