I forgot that was missing. It was in the leaked images a couple years back, but everything was black with water. They must have remove it for the release version to hide how Xen will look.
If you mean leaked screenshots from Atomic PC, then here it is: [T]http://i.imgur.com/1Tx6H.jpg[/T] Area clearly looks unfinished, although player must have moved around before taking the screenshot.

I'm just gonna leave this new bkdale86's work here, enjoy. [t]https://i.imgur.com/eAeaoVV.jpg[/t] [t]https://i.imgur.com/jTROoEH.jpg[/t] http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?p=586958#post586958
The Xen stuff in Questionable Ethics was a simulated environment, it's not placeholder. The rest is real Xen stuff, including a some actual Xen-related assets. And shortly after release, a lead developer (at the time) confirmed that no, the Xen scene in UC will not be extended. It's possible this may have changed due to how long ago this was, but right now it's the only definite answer, so stick with it. http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showpost.php?p=492565&postcount=165 Just because the Xen chapters aren't finished doesn't mean there's no finalized content related to it, guys.
[thumb]http://www.sourceop.com/hell-met/BMS/xen.jpg[/thumb] to be honest I thought that looked atrocious. xen isn't made of earth rocks. it needs more dark-red organic material. also those vorts all obviously stare at the wrong actor through walls

I think the teleportations aren't really teleporting the player but forcing a camera (point_viewcontrol) instead. That would explain why the eyes are focused so weirdly - perhaps they are focused on the player which is off in a different part of the map. That would also explain why you can't walk around.

Huh, I never noticed their eyes being off. I assume the designer would be able to just give the lookat event the cam's targetname, or at least use an info_target or something. I don't know why that wasn't done to begin with.

I think the commentary said the bit with the GMan was supposed to mirror the scene from the original Half Life, or something like that. I may be wrong, though.
I wonder when the fuck the Xen chapters will be complete... :-\
Here's more work from bkdale86.
Going to call it done.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/3yVLIAa.jpg[/t]
Does this ring any bells?
[t]https://i.imgur.com/I4F8sMQ.jpg[/t] http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showpost.php?p=587068&postcount=14 edit: Here's another one from bkdale86's work again.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/I4F8sMQ.jpg[/t]
I've always loved the way those lab consoles looked. It just screams retro 80s.
I've always loved the way those lab consoles looked. It just screams retro 80s.
I agree. These "new" ones seem a bit too lifeless.
but at the same time they also look more like something you'd find in a government-backed ex-military Cold War-era nuclear installation, i think they fit better. IMO the that old console looks horribly out of place because its greebly dark metal sci-fi high tech clashes badly with the bunker-style riveted metal walls, for one; it looks more like it belongs in an 80's starship command bridge than a secret underground missile-bunker-turned-research-facility.

I was under the assumption that they will be replacing all the consoles. Something like the anti-mass spectrometer being controlled by the "new" consoles would feel more out of place to me.
Probably will not be the ONLY console, from what I understand each console controls a specific function of the great system that is the anti-mass spectrometer, maybe this console just adjust something in that little corner. Is not like the generic ones.

In Half life it's sort of hinted at that despite all the funding Black Mesa received, they still didn't have a completely high-tech and up to date facility. There are abandoned areas, safety hazards, poorly maintained sections, equipment not designed for what they were doing with it etc. They had some of the most advanced technology available, but the facility was still a huge underground bunker that wasn't specifically built for them and upgrading all their equipment every few years would probably of been difficult and expensive to be worth it. It seemed like not everything they had was completely new and as long as it worked and got the job done, they'd use it. Replacing things every few years so they have the latest equipment is something that Aperture Science did, they kept redesigning large sections of the facility and just left the previous stuff where it was.

IIRC Black Mesa Research refurbished the facilities from another owner, so large parts might have been created for whole other purposes: either way it really makes sense that something like the Lambda labs and the Reactor complex areas might be much newer (and have more money) while older shipping and rocket launching areas would be older.

It's clearly a more highly funded, higher-tech, and newer part of the facility, which could explain the sudden change from CRT monitors to widescreen plasmas and 4:3 aspect ratio HP monitor rip-offs. It also adds color and vibrancy to that particular area. I always took it as they had to be doing something sinister if there were lab consoles that look like that. oh, and it pays homage to the original HL in that regard

The ABRL is totally new and was built after the discovery of Xen for the purposes of researching Xenians, it is likely the newest area of the facility. The other labs were (Anomalous Materials and such) were likely constructed when Black Mesa bought the complex, and updated infrequently. Dormitories, offices, and other living facilities are refurbished from the originals, and the storage and maintenance areas are more or less just kept from crumbling.
all this lore :O
I'm not sure if this is a configuration fault or just because of the older engine, but does the 2007 hammer editor have the quickhide feature or was it introduced in a later version?
Here's some more of prop images of bkdale86's work everyone. Enjoy ;): [t]http://i.imgur.com/VlE0pVE.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/JOSkn9C.jpg[/t] http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showpost.php?p=587403&postcount=33
Who is responsible for this mess? Shouldn't you be guarding some doughnuts or coffee right about now?
What the hell man? You scared me! I finally played through Blue Shift today, because my Nvidea card slowly dies, and this is the first post I read after my run. Coincidence, I think not. :tinfoil:
Am I the only one who wants more facial variety in the scientists and security guards? I know that the Face Creator System can make them slightly different with things like nose size, era angle, etc. I still feel like I run into the same visually similar scientist or guard every chapter. It seems like there is 2 or three sets of faces that look alike. I know it's minor, but it does help with the immersion for the player. Maybe I just miss the Einstein and Slick look....
wowow i have not been in this thread since the original release, what's all this talk about TF2 and it being priced? need some explanation, not willing to read through the past 20 or so pages to get up to date.

So I decided to re-download this and gonna give it another shot. Have they patched any of the issues yet?
