TF2 stuff was just a tease for the SFM black mesa content, and the Steam release won't be free.
There will be a free version but they've said that "the Steam version will include features that the free version simply can not have." [editline]10th September 2014[/editline] Also it's been two years now, and those guys are still working away on that damn Pizza ARG.
So I decided to re-download this and gonna give it another shot. Have they patched any of the issues yet?
Nope, not a single patch since release.
Have they patched any of the issues yet?
What is there that needs work on? I don't really know, I think BM:S was fairly polished.
What is there that needs work on? I don't really know, I think BM:S was fairly polished.
Apart from the random crashes, aimbot Marines, disappointing Itchyosaur (and general bad balance all round), bad music placement (Blast Pit 3 would be great after killing the tenticles, not before) and the jumping? Oh, don't forget "DO IT!!!"
Oh, don't forget "DO IT!!!"
Speaking of "DO IT", it really bugged me that Marine phrases have almost nothing do with their actions, unlike original HL1 Marines and HL2 Combine Soldiers.
Those are all rightly addressed, but still it's not such a big list, I think. The most frustrating for me were marines, gameplay-wise it felt like they were like turrets from hl2, only now walking and with no delay or warn sound. They don't search for you or flank, and if they finally decide to move, they just run forward. BUT they make up for it with deadliest aim... It felt so wrong.
There are more I could add, some minor, some bigger, those were just the one's off the top of my head

Oh, don't forget "DO IT!!!"
Don't forget how the music wasn't just badly placed (in some spots), but also badly mixed. It's waaaay too fucking loud. The only time I didn't really mind it was when Questionable Ethics 1 played, because that sequence was just so fucking sweet.
Also a couple of the songs were reversed versions of songs he made earlier.

The AI they created felt extremely basic, like that of a random Lua SNPC you'd thoughtlessly download from Gmod Workshop because the thumbnail looked cool. Not to insult whoever wrote the AI, but there really didn't seem to be any depth to it at all. The voices were god-awful as well, only the Medic's voice was acceptable, but the generic ones were just bad. I'm glad they're replacing those.
DoD and Portals have appeared on the front page
They've been there for almost a month now.
Well then http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showpost.php?p=587999&postcount=47
Same old story of the internet, dumb assholes ruin things.
Well then http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showpost.php?p=587999&postcount=47
Oh man, this sucks. I hate stuff like this.

So one guy asked him about xen in a wrong thread, and because of that he got upset? I mean, I understand that it must be really annoying when wherever you go people torment you with the same question over and over again, but this seems a bit like overkill I mean, don't we have these kinds of people in mod threads (ie. Half-Life 2: Enhancement Mod) at least twice a month?
So one guy asked him about xen in a wrong thread, and because of that he got upset?
It's not just this guy, it's happened on multiple occasions. He's had clearly defined terms with consequences for months and there's still various people who don't seem to get it.
Happy 2nd birthday Black Mesa! Let's cling a glass for that, because I have birthday too, 17 years :D PS. For those who are having Deja Vu moments, I indeed did this kind of post last year too.
Black Mesa came out 2 years ago? Damn time sure does fly fast. I still remember the time when the release might not actually happen and jokes about that it will come out no sooner than hl3 or Duke Nukem Forever. Good times.

This isn't really news, but some of you might be interested in it. Here's a tidbit from Stormseeker (Lead Dev, Level Design)
Asset improvement and replacement is just one small part of a much larger amount of work that's going on, it's not all about replacing former team members assets either (although we have had to do that in a limited number of cases), there are also props that needed replacing due to looking like they were static prop versions of hl1 brushwork, there's also been a certain amount of R&D work regarding another section of the game. Everything we're doing is based on feedback given by you lot in order to improve the game where we didn't quite get it right, hundreds of bugs, stabilising the game, optimisations, AI cleanup and improvement etc. And that's just Singleplayer work.
And Bkdale (guy who's been showing model improvements)
Plus when you see the new models Foreman has done you will see why lots of these were redone. We are trying to add value to this release so people will get more bang for their buck, and we are trying to make it as polished a release as possible.
They probably also need to replace some texture because they have copywrited material on them, Some computer screens had the firefox logo or the windows logo.
Not only that I think. Those computer models also had some copyrighted material, like the brother logo, BENQ and LG. But heck, even on the harddrive model of HL2 you can clearly see ASUS on the disc drive, yet after all these years. [T]http://upl.kittehcat.org/2014-09-14_19-06-57.jpg[/T] Here you can see what I mean. As we are speaking about copyrighted stuff, say if you are recreating a map from a game made by Nintendo, as I'm doing right now, using a few of the original textures wouldn't you have to ask permission to upload the map?
Yeah, you can't redistribute content without permission from the copyright holders. You'll need to get permission.
