How long is Black Mesa Source? I remember Half Life being pretty damn long for a single player FPS.
Somewhere at least 8-10 hours according to BM's wiki.
Even more if you instal OaR/ST Uncut
Proportionally, it's a tad longer than Half-Life, though if you've already played Half-Life, the familiarity might make it seem shorter or easier. It largely depends on your playstyle and knowledge of Half-Life. There's lots of extra stuff to check out in Black Mesa, if you stop to smell the roses, listen to all the scenes play out, explore around, and don't know the direction and puzzles by heart, chances are you'll easily get a few hours more playtime than Half-Life. On an unrelated note, I figure it's less intrusive than creating an entire new thread. That Hazard Course remake add-on for BM? It's hit a bit of a speed-bump, as the team doesn't have anyone with extensive choreography experience, and that's pretty important at this point in its development. If anyone's got choreo experience and is interested, check out the details here, maybe you can help bring the dev speed back up.
Just want to let you all know that Brian just released a new media of his work. Enjoy. ;) [t]https://i.imgur.com/FPAAmrA.jpg[/t][t]https://i.imgur.com/Y0NBSLO.jpg[/t] [t]https://i.imgur.com/80klFZp.jpg[/t][t]https://i.imgur.com/1fZu4eo.jpg[/t] [t]https://i.imgur.com/5D94PtP.jpg[/t] [t]https://i.imgur.com/YGNU40a.jpg[/t] http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?p=590410
That looks like he's using Source 2 engine to make that. (It probably isn't in which case throw boxes at me)
my god, xen is still not out?. if it was gonna take this long they should've just remade the damn thing as it was and been done with this. rather then continuing to work on something for yet more years to come. they should've just let themselves be done
That looks like he's using Source 2 engine to make that. (It probably isn't in which case throw boxes at me)
Seems like regular 3DS max to me.
Seems like regular 3DS max to me.
yeah that seems to be more likely than my guess. Proceed with the box throwing.
it's not what standard 3ds looks like even if it was, using models for any large scale geometry is no good [in source]. probably not blender or maya either judging by the selection color. that's all customizable though , although i don't see why anyone would customize them. my guess is on source 2 if that is a genuine attempt at in-editor geometry. the blue lines are separate meshes and the grey lines are the vertex composition of said meshes
Maybe hammer 2, but Source 2 seems a bit of a stretch
now why would they give it a whole new toolset accompanying a whole new method of level geometry creation and rendering as well as replacing its old occlusion technique and still call it source 1 [editline]7th November 2014[/editline] the renderer is the easiest part of an engine to modify and assuming an engine's iterative progress from what it looks like is [del]so stupid[/del] a bit silly and misinformed

What a shame. [sp]they are remaking/polishing so much stuff, I wonder how they felt releasing the original mod, it being unfinished and all that[/sp]
Before I reinstall the game, I'm downloading this because I don't like the HECU voices in the base game.

I remember when it was released a lot of people didn't seem to care about the lack of Xen because they said they didn't like it, but that doesn't mean it was right that they released it unfinished. I'm not saying i'd rather have waited even longer to play it, but it would of been nice if it was released completed.
Guys, don't get ahead of yourselves, it just looks like he exported the level geometry to a model editing program so he could create more fitting rocks, not some fancy new level editing program. Happens all the time. I don't see any real reason to believe it's a new editor, barring blind optimism and maybe a slight a ignorance of some common prop-modeling procedures.
he confirmed using 3ds max wallworm tools. however he also stated that the screens were taken in Silo 2 http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showpost.php?p=590444&postcount=6 edit: yeah just took a look at Silo 2's ui and it matches the screenshots. also Silo 2 is expensive but pretty cheap compared to 3ds max
Can't believe it's already been two years since BM came out. Fuck, where is Xen/the steam release
Do it.
It's good to release it when they did, interest was already at an extremely low point. I know when I heard it'd get released my only reaction was "Oh, that's kinda cool. Took them fucking forever though" seeing as it was 3 years after their original release date. Any hype I had for the mod was pretty much gone at that point, and I'm sure it was the same for a lot of others as well.

Any hype I had for the mod was pretty much gone at that point, and I'm sure it was the same for a lot of others as well.
I don't think releasing an unfinished game that was missing quite a large section (the ending) was good, really. Sure, it was nice to play it, but it's like they just decided to release what they had just so people wouldn't lose all interest in it, rather than waiting until they were actually done making with it. The game wasn't complete when they released it and it still isn't 2 years later. It's now been 5 years since the original planned release date and it still isn't finished. It would of been better to play the entire thing including the ending on a first play-through, rather than getting just part of the game and then waiting several more years to be able to complete it. In a way, I'd rather have just waited for the finished game. I don't really think "hype" matters too much, it is a free mod and what we did get to play was really well done. It's not like if we had to wait a while longer it would release and then no one would play it.
The team might not have had the motivation to continue had they not released the mod. It changed things. Besides, it likely just means that the eventual game will be even better.

Sleeve looks a bit bulky and shapeless, honestly, but freaking amazing work with the SMG and hands. I love your textures all round.
I can't spot one jagged edge on those things. Do they impact ingame performance at all?
I love the little computer thing on the hand, you can sorta see it on the HL1 hands but I love that detail you put in.

Just to make sure, you do plan to release eventually right?
Actually, with the whole retail argument, I guess that also depends on what they'll price it at which they haven't said anything about yet.
I've seen people arguing about price point few pages ago. Honeslty, i would pay any price for it, even if i won't play it as much as i want, i would pay just to support developers, who initially were modmakers, like us. I can clearly see that they put a ton of effort and man hours into new Black Mesa. Seeing how much effort they put into original Black Mesa, and released it all for free is just a nice thing. The sad thing to see that people don't even think when they buy edited Unreal Engine 4 shooter example with few new guns and static modes, or another incredibly dull horror survival which were greenlit and been put price tags of 15-25$, but when the time comes for a real worthy game they want to see lowest price possible.
