You sure hate jaggies.
What resolution do you play in?

Is this related to BMS? Doesn't really remind me of anything. Also, HUD digits seem to have changed

Well he is a level designer for them.
Maybe it is a MP map?
The rock texture looks new. Which would be nice, because the one in the mod always looked unnatural.

That looks radically different from the old screenshots of bounce.
Shit, I love the lighting
Before I reinstall the game, I'm downloading this because I don't like the HECU voices in the base game.
Not sure why this guy got dumbed, the HECU voice direction was awful, arguably the worst part of the game excluding the fact that Xen isn't a part of it yet. I've ranted about it before, but tl;dr it's bad because Soldiers in HL1 were morally ambiguous, while BM portrayed them as cartoon villains, constantly reminding you how evil they are.
I hope the new ones are much better.
black mesa? more like never releasea

Don't forget aimbot and standing still like turrets.

This is actually an old version of the lighting, we've been working on significantly improving the readability while keeping the mood and contrast. It's looking even better now.
Wait till you see how it plays. Like the rest of our MP maps (we're SO DAMN excited to talk about these, goddamn), we've really taken the gameplay to the next level. Bounce is a particular tester favourite, it plays beautifully - and this is coming from me - Bounce was my favourite in the original.

Oh don't worry about that. We've moved away from that direction substantially. Mike Tsarouhas is an outstanding voice actor and has been doing an incredible job so far. He's really dedicated to making the role authentic and more realistic. Our entire voice acting and writing department has worked super closely with him to improve it as much as possible - we're all aware how much everyone hated the mod version's soldiers (as did I!)

Now the big question we're all waiting for: When are you going to release the game? I wanna throw my money on you xD

I'm glad the lighting got improved, was sort of afraid that the map would be annoying to play because it looks really nice.
It's good to release it when they did, interest was already at an extremely low point. I know when I heard it'd get released my only reaction was "Oh, that's kinda cool. Took them fucking forever though" seeing as it was 3 years after their original release date. Any hype I had for the mod was pretty much gone at that point, and I'm sure it was the same for a lot of others as well.
Thing is, Black Mesa wasn't three years late. The game just didn't turn out how they wanted it to be and they rather continued to work silently on it, until 2012. Every now and then something popped up and it just fueled the fire due to the missed release date. Everbody thought it's gonna be released in 2009. Then in 2010. Then in 2011. But the team itself never had a different release date than 2009 and "When it's done".
I guess I'm the only one that really hated how the scientists sounded.
People always seemed to have a real hard on for CornetTheory, for some reason.
His Kleiner was fine but how he did the scientists just always sounded off in a super cheesy way imo. At least the HECU were changed.
[editline]11th November 2014[/editline]
And it never helped that they wrote a lot of awkward and nerdy dialogue for them to always say.
I think the early parts of the game were kind of meant to be cheesy and funny, like the early parts of the original Half Life. That way, it hits you a lot harder when the Resonance Cascade happens, everything turns to shit, and you hear the panic and fear coming from everyone.
[editline]11th November 2014[/editline]
Also, am I the only one who thought Eli perhaps shouldn't be quite so grey hair-wise? It's not even a complaint really, I just didn't imagine that he'd look to be pushing 50 even when he worked in Black Mesa.
Sorry to go off on a tangent, but why is that guard so chill?

Okay, I know that this question might have been asked before, but are you going to release xen along with the multiplayer, or are we going to get the multi first and then get xen as an update?
He's cooped up safe inside his office. Screw the bitch banging on the window.

Yeah I actually liked the seen more that way, he's just sitting in his safe armoured office like "Who gives a fuck, nothing can get me in here" and then his smugness is shattered when a zombie breaks through the vent and drags him inside.

i thought most of the scientists sounded 15 years too young or like they need decongestant
I guess we can agree to disagree on either of our issues. :v:
I thought Eli looked fine for where he was.
I know it's nitpicking but come on.
Half-Life's acting wasn't anymore lively but at least they made it sound half convincing.
And they could have thrown in some comic relief without some of the cringe worthy dialogue they wrote. Like stuff you'd never really hear someone say out loud.
(HL Sci)
(BM Sci)
[editline]11th November 2014[/editline]
I'm not saying the guy couldn't do it, because I know he actually can. This is just the kind of thing the BM team was going for at the time.
But if they're updating the HECU then maybe they should update everything else so it all fits.
After hearing them side-by-side Black Mesa's scientists sound somewhat off. Kinda nauseously and a little too deep. It's still the best I've heard yet though.
Don't forget aimbot and standing still like turrets.
And how they instantly spot you through walls when you are moving slowly while trying to assassinate them with crowbar from behind, whereas when you sprint towards them, fire near their feet, throw objects at them, they don't give a fuck. "yeah, it must be my friend doing a joke, I'll ignore him then"
I really hope they decide to remake the H.E.C.U. as they really are with the PCV vest, and not just "a generic soldier", along with the classic design of the Bullsquid (the more I see it, the worst I think it was their decision of putting their eyes upside).
Also, I hope the mappers use less scripted events for the enemy AI. Is ridiculous how many rally points and scripted sequences they have, and nothing is set so in the case the player interrupts them, they start to work.
And the same with literally any scripted sequence, you can break them like for example killing the enemy that it was supposed to kill the npc actor.

1. PCV was introduced in OF, it wasn't a thing in HL1. BMS just went and made it a real vest instead of the fictional black plate-vest.
2. They already stated that did that because the Bullsquid is a predator. As the saying goes, "eyes on the side, animals hide, eyes on the front, animals hunt".
irrelevant. krogan were "prey" animals, hence their eyes being on the side of their heads (or at the very least, incredibly wide set)
Here a some ingame images of Brian work.

Did anyone else find it annoying that alien controllers and houndeyes make similiar(ish) sounds in BM? Every time I play the lambda reactor battle, I end up pointlessly twirling around looking for houndeyes whilst getting raped by the controllers' energy balls. Their sounds really should be made more distinctive from each other.

Mike Tsarouhas is our new soldier voice. He did the voices in Insurgency. He's great, the manliest natural talking voice I've ever come across.
Like I said, the writing team and voice department have worked together and all the HECU dialogue is different now. Mike is very interested in authenticity due to his background and having lots of friends in the armed services, so the dialogue's really been stepped up, away from the cheesy 50s villains.

I can't disclose that, I'm afraid. All I can say is that our Xen is exceptionally ambitious and massive. We're a team under a lot of stress, pressure, and lacking in manpower. Remember, we all do this in our spare time, like any other modding team. We have no funding at all, and are only human!
And how they instantly spot you through walls when you are moving slowly while trying to assassinate them with crowbar from behind, whereas when you sprint towards them, fire near their feet, throw objects at them, they don't give a fuck. We are doing a large AI pass as we speak. The aim is to make the soldiers feel a lot more dynamic and responsive overall, especially in combat. We've been rebalancing the values and such too (I've been helping with this). They don't aimbot now, and are much less frustrating to fight. Deniz (our lead programmer) has also added some bits of code here and there where they now get alerted by sounds, particularly gunfire, to stop that from happening. We're still on it! Also, all the maps got renoded so their navigation should be improved. Still working on it. AI is very difficult.
Also (you may or may not be glad to hear this), our MP5 is way better now!

Just for everyone's info, a lot of the stuff that Brian is improving is completely necessary, for a variety of reasons. A lot of it is content that we couldn't release with, for one reason or another. It's very far from all we're doing, of course.

This information right there alone makes buying black mesa worth it now.
The only thing left is to rebalance the Apache fight to be a lot less frustrating and dragged out and that vortigaunts don't insta-zap. (and less GALLA-LUM from the vortigaunts as well pls)
I think those have already been confirmed to being looked into but I don't know.

The insta-zap will be factored into the balancing pass, though I'm not sure what will be done about it, if anything. The Apache, I believe has been fixed. I think it got very badly bugged somehow for the mod release, if I remember the discussion correctly, and ended up being something like 3X harder than it was meant to be. Don't quote me on that, though, as I'm not 100%.
