I think it looks worse. It's basically HL2 HEV now, but with an awful reskin. What's up with their obsession with pitch black color anyway? It looks bad AND uncanon. Where did they get that idea from? Some fan-made model iirc? There's very few black areas in the original suit. Why not just make the chest-plate grey steel ffs. [thumb]http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100202211049/half-life/en/images/4/4c/Art-gordon-greybg.jpg[/thumb]
It being completely orange was part of the story wasn't it? It was for scientific research and was designed to be easily seen in test chambers and was full of trackers and health monitors, that's how the HECU kept finding you. The rebels adapted it in HL2 from a newer model to make it better for combat. All they have to do with that skin is make the black sections orange and it'll probably be a good looking model.

I wonder how many of the problems people had with Black Mesa could be fixed in the retail release, or with mods. I was impressed with the product for the most part, but I couldn't begin to trust that my view of the Half-Life series isn't relatively fucking stupid. What about the people calling it a simplified soap opera with shitty weapon animations, or the people like Marphy Black documenting things from Half-Life 1 that I never would've caught in my life. It'd be a shame for them to be left completely underwhelmed, while my dumb ass accepts any old bullshit and subtleties are left to obscurity.
Don't let other people make you ashamed of things you like And I am saying this as a person who hated Wolfenstein: The New Order, and now that it won like 200+ "game of the year 2014" awards is boiling out of anger every time people here mention it
What about the people calling it a simplified soap opera with shitty weapon animations
Then those people are idiots. The reason the Half-Life series is most often called "too linear" (linearity is apparently just bad now since the sandbox game craze exploded) or compared to a "rollercoaster" is because the FPS market itself is oversatured with horrible linear shooters that try to blatantly copy what HL1/2 got so right yet still fail so miserably. I.E The Bioshock Infinite baseball throwing scene is a direct rip off of "pick up that can" from Half-Life 2, only that it can't even trust the player to throw a projectile in a FPS game and requires a button prompt. HL2 on the other hand, used it to introduce the new mechanic of interacting with the game world via the physics engine, introduce the Combine as an arbitrarily hostile entity to the player, and if you want to dig deeper, it touches on the "illusion of free choice" theme present in the Half-Life games, as despite compliance or resistance, the outcome is still a whack with the Stunstick. Just as Freeman's fate is determined by forces he can't comprehend the player's actions are always molded by what the developers want. Bioshock Infinite mangles its themes of Racism and Multiple Worlds Theory so bad that it's both offensive and brain-cell killing. Like the plots to most M.Knight Shyamalan movies.
Just letting you all know Brian just posted some new prop images.
Thankfully the holidays are over and hopefully there will be more time for BM. While taking a break from the consoles I redid the nitrogen tank model. The polycount increase really helps the prop especially the top portion which screamed low poly to me (a lot). Comparison shot. Ignore the smoothing errors on the old prop.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/QuUfT2t.jpg[/t]
All 4 replacements with chrome texture.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/xZzHrGS.jpg[/t]
Alternate texture.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/K1C1grq.jpg[/t] http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?t=19251
Damn that looks high quality as fuck!
I liked Wolfenstein: The New Order.
I recently got it in the Steam Winter Sale and played through the whole campaign, and I loved it. But I can really see why some people wouldn't like it. There are some parts that are just plain annoying. The main reason why it won "200+ "game of the year 2014" awards" is because it was one of the few games of 2014 that wasn't shit.

No need to be rude WhyNott. We all know what the word fuck is in german.
go f[sp]ick[/sp] yourself
WhyNott confirmed for untermensch
All right, I'm sorry for derailing this thread. Let's not talk about it ever again. I can be a real shitposter sometimes. I blame my weak non-aryan genes.
i didn't like bastion, but i would never have anger for the people who did
I'm sorry if I offended you, it was meant to be a joke. I'm not actually mad at people who like things I don't, it's more like irritation that I'm not able to understand what they see, but in this case it was just a poor attempt at humor. I'm really very hit-or-miss when it comes to that, I apologize
Here is some more of new prop image from Brian. [t]https://i.imgur.com/JzTzvcX.jpg[/t] http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showpost.php?p=593191&postcount=13
The new one looks like a mix of elements from HL2 and HL1 Here is a higheres version of the new HEV suit image [t]https://scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/l/t31.0-8/10903868_915305591821584_311816064342570411_o.jpg[/t]
Way back I modified the BM first person arm texture and it directly modified the arms of the HEV suit, because the first person arm models were also the same models used for the world model of the HEV This makes me wonder looking at the new model, maybe this means they replaced those shitty looking HEV arms since they do seem to look better here (also it would be fucking stupid to make better arms for a mesh that you barely see vs your arms which you see all the time)
(also it would be fucking stupid to make better arms for a mesh that you barely see vs your arms which you see all the time)
You'll probably see the model in Multiplayer.
We have new HEV arms from that model in game currently, they are being finalised at the moment  They look great!
I like everything they've done maybe I don't want the same weapons from before are you people not happy they painfully remade the map but made cool alterations to keep it fresh? drones
I like everything they've done maybe I don't want the same weapons from before are you people not happy they painfully remade the map but made cool alterations to keep it fresh? drones
Maybe if the weapon models were of as high a quality as the maps this discussion wouldn't happen every two weeks.
I get is pure joy from just seeing classic hl1 weapons being remade carefully. Why Black Mesa team has to reinvent the wheel, it just gets lamer...
The major gripe I have with Black Mesa is that they try to make all the weapons feel like they're "new and improved" I absolutely despise the burst fire on the SMG, it's one of the main reasons why I can never enjoy playing it. What was wrong with the way the SMG worked in HL1/2? Also with the Glock, whatever happened to the rapid-fire with rightclick? I once remember reading on the Black Mesa forums that one of the older devs said that he/she wished that the glock still had the rapid fire, but never did anything about it. (Keep in mind, this was years ago before it was even released) In my opinion, Black Mesa's weapons are badly animated, badly scripted, and overall just badly done. Don't even get me started on the hgrunts. Really, the only thing that I thoroughly enjoyed about Black Mesa was the maps. Goddamn, those are some beautiful maps. Questionable Ethics is gorgeous. Edit: I also don't like the ironsights on the .357, it completely removes the functionality of the crossbow.
Although I gotta say I never had big issues with the weapons, moreso the animations. But Juniez' models are clearly higher quality.

Man, I really wish whenever people made updated versions of HL1 models, they stopped trying to make it more realistic. Half-Life isn't a realistic game. A lot of the charm comes from that. Making HL1 more 'realistic' just dulls it so much. I'd take an impossible to move in but cool looking suit over a boring and ugly updated realistic one. Bunny hopping (or strafing at the speed of light) around with exaggerated, snappy animations in an impossibly proportioned suit is part of the half-life experience. Why an HD remake of it would take away so much of the game is crazy.

I wish Black Mesa would take inspiration from Gearbox: They didn't make Half-Life more realistic, they made it more "HD"
But speaking of animations that's another thing nobody seems to get right. Why doesn't the glock fly back at my face in a nanosecond? Why doesn't my crowbar basically flail around in front of my face impossibly fast? Why would you change these things?
