Black Mesa Source V5 - "They're still working on Xen?"

Hi guys, I've been working on a small mod for Black Mesa that I would like to share, the Classic Vortigaunt mod:

No more shiny, healthy-looking alien slaves!
This is a reskinned model of the old, wrinkly vortigaunt from Half-Life 2, before the Orange Box Update. They look dirty and unhealthy, which in my opinion suits very well in the context of them being slaves.
Features:
- brown, dirty, mottled skin
- rougher, more uneven skin surface
- glow-in-the-dark (sometimes), shiny shackles
- slower beam attack charge-up (optional)
I've been meaning to post this to the official Black Mesa forums, but registration issues got the better of me :/. Thanks to Dadster for sharing it over there!

Oh wow that looks awesome, I was disappointed that they used the vorts from HL2. Going to be using this next time I play Black Mesa.

I think you did a great job at making the EP2 Vorts look more like they did in HL1. Only the shackles could use some cleaning. Right now they look very worn out.
this works great with the rest of joazzz's pack.

These aren't Ep2 Vorts. They're from HL2 before the Orange Box Update.

The vortigaunt now has the new Ep2 eyes, thanks to ysrael214.

I lessened the shackles' contrast to make them look cleaner, hopefully this works for you.
From what I heard it wasn't that hard to turn it on, some Boolean somewhere to allow materials to be applied to view models.
in the SDk code though, so you would have to make a new mod.
Well yes, of course. What I meant 5 days ago was that I'd like to see that effect retroactively enabled on other games. Any ideas which boolean it would be?
I'm just here to share for those who haven't heard that Surface Tension Uncut v2.0 Beta is released!

Is it made by the Black Mesa devs? Or by the community?
Is it made by the Black Mesa devs? Or by the community?

This community project was created to remake the sections of Surface Tension which were cut from Black Mesa.
:-(
Why did the devs cut those levels?
IIRC it was to do with the guy who was working on them leaving the team.
Oh, wow.
The guys at the BM forums are still working on that Pizza ARG. They haven't made any significant progress in months...

Yeah, the Devs insist they are close, but never give any hints. They've been at a brick wall for quite some time.
I'm surprised they haven't said ANYTHING to push them in the right direction...
[editline]...[/editline]
Then again, they've always gone for a "when it's done" approach.

It's bad ARG design if people hit a brick wall, there should always be progress.
aw fucking missing textures. Help me out FP. The HUD post-processing effects are just wire-frames, eyeballs are missing, glock texture is missing, and when I'm underwater all I see is that damn checkerboard.
Should I re-install or something?
Should I re-install or something?
Probably. Never had this problem before.
Do you have all the requirements and stuff?

You're in DirectX 8.0 mode, probably because your PC can't handle DirectX 9.0.
Is this your problem?

However, if your PC CAN handle DirectX 9.0, go to the launch options of the game and type in: -dxlevel 90
Put a space in front of it. The developers said that this game wasn't meant to be ran in DX8 mode, so if your PC can't handle DX9, then you're out of luck.
Interesting. I had -dxlevel 80 in launch options already from the last time I downloaded it. I must have forgotten. Thanks guys

Out of curiosity, could this be fixed without access to the source code? If it's just texture related...

Probably. It can be possible to re-write the shaders to be compatible with DX8. Hell, if HL2 looks fine in DX8, then I'm sure Black Mesa has that potential. The developers could of just been lazy, and didn't want to fix and DirectX-related issues.

Yeah, you'd just have to add some stuff to the offending vmts that tell it what to do when running on pre-DX9 hardware. Valve did that with their own vmts (for example combinesoldiersheet.vmt in source 2007 shared materials.gcf), the BM devs probably just didn't think it'd be worth their time.
So whats the latest thing any devs have said on the stream release? Last I heard one of them said it would be out before the Xen update.

Hm, maybe they were waiting for Steampipe?

Found this post by James back in April, the Steam release will be using the VPK feature for mods
http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showpost.php?p=545038&postcount=835
Does anyone still remember how to add the automatic crouch jump feature?
Nevermind, two seconds of Google search did the trick.

Egh, I am not too big on VPKs. I prefer the classic drag and drop folders style.
