So if this is the retail Steam release, can we expect to see an actual announcement about it on Steam or what?
Well it is early access.
omfg this launch ad
Wait for it to hit zero and go static.
Close enough.

Did not expect it to be $20.
Happily paid the 20 eu. I'm glad I could support such a long running development.
Wait, it's 20 dollars? That's a lot considering it's not THAT different from the free mod.
It's fine as a final set price and not to be raised upon Xen's release or something/
Its going to be raised to $25 upon xen's release.

Final price will be 25
Although we've been waiting a long time for this, I'll probably wait untill it gets a 50% discount or something. €20 is quite a bit.
Bought it

$20 was actually exactly how much I thought it would cost.
Didn't expect it to be $20 but... fuck this, I have 400 RUB to spare.

I like to think of it as a donation for their work on the mod, and the extra work they had to do to bring it to the new engine, remodel a lot of the weapons and props. New voices, etc.
$20 was actually exactly how much I thought it would cost.
I was guessing 15-20, so yeah :D
tbh I don't really mind paying for this, I can tell the devs put a lot of work and effort into it and I'm happy to support that.

We have never said this anywhere.
20 euro, haha no
£15 ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh i think i'll wait
So what version of the source 1 engine is this running on?
For people like us who are already huge fans, $20 might not matter too much. But its a steep barrier to anyone who hasn't been interested in this before. They'll most likely defer to the free mod instead.
Like, if this was the first release of this then maybe the price would seem okay (15 might still seem more fair though), but it just seems kinda crazy to have to pay 20$ just to play something that I've already fully played for free and it was mostly the same as this new version.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
“Yes. Black Mesa will be $19.99 USD during the Early Access phase. This will be bumped up to $24.99 USD when in retail.”
on steam page.
So what version of the source 1 engine is this running on?
AFAIK its modified branch of latest version of it. Newer then portal 2. Probably the same branch Stanley Parable was on.

I updated my post with a snip of the early access faq. If you can, can you please clarify what that means then?
Fuck, I'll happily pay €20 for it. I've been waiting for this since 2006.
Better buy it now than waiting till' it goes up to $24.99 and waiting until a discount.

Incorrect information in that post on the Steam page. We have removed it. Apologies for the confusion.
Time for the BMS team to earn some well-deserved money.

Perhaps, $20 seems like a pretty fair price to me since they have spent a decade working on the game for nothing in return.

can I get a refund based on that I bought the game thinking the price would go up?
I mean, theoretically
I wouldn't actually do that
