I haven't gotten into Africa yet, but are there desert maps in game? We have snow, woodland, suburban, and urban maps that I know of.

Yes, Small Town, Wilderness and Shanty levels can use Arid, Temperate or Tundra tilesets.
i am 100% positive i heard an advent trooper yell "new yorker booty party" at me when i flanked him
Speaking of ADVENT, am I the only one who have begun deciphering the words they actually say? Like at first it was as if I was playing Half Life 2 and hearing the Combine chatter for the first time but now I'm sure I can distinctly here phrases like "Hold it!", "Alert!" and "Lock it down!"
Or am I just imagining?

That's cause the combine speak in english. ADVENT don't and I've no idea what language that is. Some alien mumbo-jumbo.
Yeaaaah. I'm done with this game for now.
The stuttering is causing cinematics audio/video to go completely out of sync, completely ruining them.
It's kinda fucking up the story for me, so I don't really want to progress with the game in this state.
I just captured the [sp]template[/sp] from the [sp]forge[/sp] and the cinematic on the Avenger was all kinds of messed up, which really pissed me off.
The game runs pretty decently in-mission, and I can live with the stuttering on the anthill/strategic view, but experiencing the story properly is pretty important to me on my first run.
I think I'll wait 6 months after the game is all patched up, then give it another go.
The game-play is amazing, absolutely solid, but this game should definitely have spent a few more months in the polishing phase. Stuttering like this really shouldn't happen with 16GB of RAM, 4GB of VRAM and running off an SSD.
Can't wait till someone makes a tutorial on replacing models. The tools themselves are pretty great and easy, but i wish i could just drag the edited file into the game directory like in Skyrim or Source so it would automatically know what file to load :/
holy shit if you have the story given bradford as a soldier you can't change his clothes with the exo suit and he has invisible upper arms and legs in a mission BUT he does have the exo suit rocket launcher attached to his wrist on the model
So custom UI making is sorta fun.

I've heard quite a few things in English coming out of ADVENT soldiers. It's only ever when I have some kind of an advantage over them, like having them flanked or gaining a height advantage. Most of the time when I'm cycling through targets that are flanked, they all react to that soldier in some way (pointing) and start yelling out to either the soldier or the rest of their ADVENT cronies. Most of the time I hear stuff like "don't shoot at me!", "he/she has my flank!", "they're gonna shoot me next!".

Hey, so I'm not hallucinating. Great. :v:

So how hard would it be to add another button and menu to the main menu? For say a skirmish mode..? We have the supposed "quick tactical load" in the debug menu, a quick button to access it (outside of enabling debug mode) would be pretty cool. Maybe abstract some of the complicated technical jargon behind something akin to the multiplayer game setup menu?
On that note, how do we access the Tactical mode?
So what do you guys think of my Nod Soldier voice? Should I swap some lines around? Is it workshop ready?
I had a really cool idea for a mod: "Trophy" props. These could be a fourth prop option for the body of soldiers that have to do with various alien bits and bobs. For example, the ADVENT Captain's scarf or a sectoid's skull on the belt or viper skin poncho, etc. They'd unlock after doing autopsies on their respective owners.
Just a thought, as I have zero mod making experience and they'd probably be tricky to implement.

I've no idea really, haven't looked into that. Right now I'm just focusing on creating my own menu. What you saw there was the start to my own abilities menu.
[QUOTE=certified;49745709]So, at what point do you guys throw in the hat on a campaign?

Every game has a turning point, keep going, once you get an extra mimic beacon or two and some decent weapons you'll find missions get easier and easier.
I didn't think that the Evasive Maneuvers could actually work.

...I've literally maxed out my tech. Had beacons, but lost them to a squad wipe and haven't encountered any Faceless since to replace them.
My entire problem is that I'm losing men left and right to Randumb bullshit that no amount of tech can solve. The turning point has occurred - The turning where my Badass Teched Out Army falls apart after a single op gone bad wipes half my Colonels and all their expendable gear, leading to the loss of the other half and the start of massive turnover.
I rarely use beacons and I haven't even built a psi training center
it's like october
am I playing wrong
At this point I might as well field a full squad of PsiOps... But that's just inviting a wipe.
So I just encountered my first chryssalids, and sectopods in a single retaliation mission.
After the first move I made, 3 pods of 'lids got spotted and I started screaming both internally and externally. Thankfully my sharpshooter just majored and I got the serial perk, and the glorious bastard disposed of every single one of them in a single turn after softening them with a plasma nade.
Moments later a sectopod barges out of a building with 2 stunfuckers and miraculously nobody got hurt at all during the resulting battle.

What difficulty are you on?
Dont psi ops get that skill that makes them get statis at 1 hp if they almost die?
In other news, don't ever kill a adromedon near a cliff because its corpse will bounce around and fall under the map and it won't allow you to end the turn as the sound gets louder and louder.

I just finished a game on Veteran Ironman (after about 4-5 dumped Commander runs) where I never built a single Exo Suit or Spider Suit, and left the proving ground for the final few months. I built the AWC so late I never got an ability drop from it. I did build one WAR suit and one Wraith suit for the final mission, as well as a bunch of experimental grenades. I rarely used mimic beacons.
The late game, outside of the final mission, pretty much became hilariously easy once I had just one Psi Operative with, of all things, stasis. I never ever saw a Sectopod, Gatekeeper or Andromedon fire at me outside of once in the final level because every time I came across them I'd stasis them, kill their pod buddies, and then use the entire squad's firepower to rip them to shreds in the next turn
Alright so hiring a shit ton of rookies causes the avenger menu and worldview to shit itself in framerate. So heads up before anyone feels like buying lots of new soldiers.
Heh, I'm not going to abandon my current campaign though, not after the Ups I've had with it like the 2-turn Avenger defense. Gonna go down fighting... Which is likely imminent since my army consists solely of Rookshirts and Magus-level Psi Ops who have had a tendency to be sole-survivors of their ops due to their 1HP ability, and I'm on 20-day countdown with a high chance of my next set of ops going to shit and hospitalizing anyone of use until *after* the countdown is up.
That said though, with everything I've learned I'm prepping for a run that I'm going to write a story off of inspired by that infamous novelized Let's Play of UFO Defense. PM me your Character Pools if you want to see yourself (or any OCs) get torn to shreds in Purple Prose.
