Can someone post a link to the recorded version of the stream when it's put up? [editline]30th January 2016[/editline] or at least a recap or something, completely missed it
We need this, sounds like they revealed a lot of important stuff.
But, indirect confirmation that there is only 3 weapon tiers - Ballistic, Mag and Plasma (The SMG weapons, stream said it was one for each of the 3 weapon tiers). Does mean that the ones people were thinking were seperate ones are just the researches for the sniper rifles etc of the weapon tier. www.twitch.tv/pax2/profile Will have the stream after it is finished via VOD

Firaxis showed the XCOM2 intro. It's pretty cool. http://www.twitch.tv/pax2/v/38694034?t=3h18m56s The rest of their panel is there, starts at 2:15:00 ish
gonna go ahead and not spoil that for myself, launching a hype game and absorbing the intro for the first time is part of the ritual experience

[editline]30th January 2016[/editline] Also Workshop support if we didn't know that already.
So, last night, I was gifted X-Com 2 Deluxe Edition by some random person on the internet. I was so happy, so elated, so hyped for getting to play the game. I went to the library to try to preload it... And then I woke up.
Hah, gifts? In our superior ADVENT society? The administration laughs at you, outlander. :v:
One Map Skirmishes confirmed.
I feel this needs to be clarified, the debug mode features a "tactical quick launch" which they phrased as skirmish mode for XCOM, but it's not necessarily an average user feature. Though I imagine that it won't be long before it will be added to the main menu with a user friendly menu.
Only three tiers again? Damnit, I was so hoping for four
Mods. It seems REALLY EASY to add new content into the game now.
I really like that they basically have a Visual Basic Shell, making compiling mods real easy.
I'm just wondering how would I be able to change the text of abilities (overwatch or panicking or getting hit) in XCOM: EW? Is it a case of changing .ini files or would I have to go deeper than that?
My brain is already trying to think of ways to expand the gun tech tiers. Maybe remodel/reimplement the Laser tier, inbetween Ballistic and Mag/Mag and Plasma? Perhaps two half-tiers of some new tech, one that would give you a generic rifle, plus a sniper rifle/pistol, and another that'd give you a generic rifle, with a minigun/sword?

Is there going to be a preload?

I just realized how awesome XCOM2 would be with a Dungeon-Master mode. You could even go all the way and make it into an RPG platform.
I beat the game on normal while savescumming like a bitch a few days ago, so I decided to try out classic ironman on a new save Let's just say that I now have a deep phobia for lanky people in blue suits with hippie glasses, and I also want to neck myself
I just realized how awesome XCOM2 would be with a Dungeon-Master mode. I wonder if letting a player dynamically spawn aliens, obstacles, and objectives is possible in a not super janky way.
Not having lasers in 2 puts bad taste in my mouth I always got such a warm fuzzy feeling whenever I unlocked them in EU
IMO they were useless. You picked up some plasma pretty quick. And you can't pick up lasers. They really aren't worth spending money on.
I found laser weapons to be a good step up from ballistics. In my games I spend the vast majority of my time with lasers because you can get them very quickly and they're a complete upgrade. Plasma can only be used early if you stun sectoids and thinmen and their weapons aren't exactly upgrades over laser rifles. Also personally I always thought plasma weapons were a stupid concept, in any game that uses them. Why would you go from incredibly fast physical weapons, to instant energy weapons, to unbelievably slow blobs of plasma? Personally I think the progression should go, Ballistics -> Lasers -> Magnetics -> Particle beams, and use plasma as the expansion on fire and explosive based weapons. A plasma bomb would be much more effective than a plasma rifle.
The lack of laser just makes me hope there's enough to make up for it. I just don't want to be stunted by gear limitations

I wonder if letting a player dynamically spawn aliens, obstacles, and objectives is possible in a not super janky way.
As long as we're exposing our own completely impossible fantasies, I might as well post mine. The best way to do something like what you suggested would be to make it so that the two players are running a campaign against eachother. The Human player plays the campaign exactly like XCOM2, while the Alien player's campaign is almost more of a turn-based strategy game, where they can choose to redirect resource and research improvements that make things harder for the player. In the Geoscape, the Alien player has the opportunity to place their units wherever they want. Obstacles will be placed and changed according to what improvements the Alien player has made, and the Alien player's choice of units will depend on how far into the campaign the Human player is. After the Alien player has placed their units, the Human player chooses where their units will spawn in, and the game proceeds like a normal multiplayer game.
Why are people concerned with a lack of lasers? It sounds like magnetic weapons are lasers in everything but name. Straight upgrades to ballistics you get mid-early game.
Or maybe someone will add Laser weapons as a side-grade to Mag weapons. I can certainly see them being slightly more powerful/accurate, while having limitations like no modifications and specialized ammo (GREEN POISONOUS BEAMS).
