XCOM V4: "Svinnik - Why is Shen's daughter asian, when Shen is black?"
So I finished the game but I only ever used a skulljack twice, the two times that it was required to progress. Are those the only times it's possible to use? I carried it for a while and tried to target some aliens but it never let me use it against them.
There's a datamining thing you can research that lets you get stuff from using it
So last night I got the "Sun never sets" achievement and just have to unlock Australia to get "Global Resistance"

I thought I had that. Who can you use it on?

I've only ever bothered on advent officers. I don't know if it works on anything else.

Advent
doesn't it always give you intel? and a constant 70% chance to actually hit
i never used it after the required ones

Something like that. I used it pretty regularly for a while since if it connects it instantly kills the Advent trooper you use it on.
The fact that the chance is 70% no matter what kinda makes you not want to even bother. Plus the rewards are not that great. If they made it work like the Arc Thrower, where the less HP the target has, the better your chances are, plus giving 2 skulljack attempts instead of just 1, it would give more incentive to try it.
I use it for those neat instakills and the hacking bonus for my specialists.
Is there any way to further increase the hack score for a Specialist or a soldier in general without the sue of mods or being incredibly lucky to get an increase as a reward? Like, a PCS or something?

other than gremlin upgrades i dont think so

Skullmining proving grounds project makes the Skulljack increase hacking score on equipped soldiers. Upgrading your gremlins also increases hacking score I think.
so something i've noticed about XCOM 2 that translates to a lot of people's complaints is that, setting mission timers aside, the randomly generated maps make it a lot harder to predict when you're going to make contact than in EU. i don't think it's bad but it's definitely harder. a vague familiarity with maps and pod spawns and stuff was just something you internalized playing EU, and i find myself making really shitty contact even on missions that don't have a turn limit, from a flank i thought was all but safe, underneath the lip of a building, in slivers of unrevealed FoW, etc
So for optimal hacking score I'd need T3 Gremlin + upgraded skulljack? Alright.

I think people who spent a lot of time on Long war got used to pods spawning at the most random of nook and crannies, so you're never sure where they'd spawn.
i mean i write that having come from long war, which is a different beast altogether. the fact that so many maps were meant to be played from one direction only and that you get swarming abductions on like, the tiniest maps in the game just meant i spent way more time on overwatch which, again, is different now.
So has anyone figured how how to make non-random maps? I wanted to make a few places from home as maps.

Fair enough, either way though, this change of difficulty where the enemy positions are unexpected is a welcome change in difficulty at least in my opinion.
How do you even get the T3 gremlin? T2 just showed up very early on and I'm at "final assault" and ran out of things to research except for in the proving ground

Pretty sure you unlock it through the sectopod analysis thing. Check your Engineering to see if you can purchase the upgrade.
I read through the thread and I get a massive temptation to click on the black lines on each page.
But I'm not spoiling myself out of the great story I hear.

You get it from researching a sectopod wreck.
Was pretty disappointed when I saw a list of Beacon's mods
[sp]because it turns out that I was already subscribed to everything [/sp]
also, there's a list of my mods?

Yeah, anything you put on the workshop is listed on your steam profile.
Is Advanced Armor somekind of hidden project or regional bonus? Says I need it to unlock the second slot for the Exo/W.A.R suit.

He fits pretty well as a alien-hating sergeant.

oh that, yeah I suppose that's a list haha

No "Advanced Armour" basically means the various tiers like Predator Armor and Warden Armour, I'll admit I got confused at first too, it isn't very clear and a poor choice of wording all things considered.
You have to choose between the Suits or the armour if you want that extra slot.
here's something that's legitimately pissing me off in my current mission
activated pods don't necessarily move first, so if an unactivated pod blunders into your current engagement you will blow all of your overwatch on this random pod that isn't a threat until next turn while the one you're engaged with is free to move and kill as it pleases right then
Had*, it's fixed now, haven't seen those issues for a while since he last updated the mod.
i'll have to ask him
