XCOM V4: "Svinnik - Why is Shen's daughter asian, when Shen is black?"

depending on how involved modding is i'd like to reintroduce the infantry class from LW into 2. i think that was a solid feature, it felt right having at least one class be specialized around the basic rifleman role in a group of specialists.

i dont mean in some abstract way, either. the support role in EU/EW could basically spec into that and that's what i'd like to see.

You can still do that with the current Specialist class, it still has some Overwatch related perks.
This fanmade trailer is pretty good

Pretty cool, I really do enjoy that Disturbed cover too.
Getting pretty hyped for this!
Three year old (huge) interview I found http://www.polygon.com/features/2013/1/31/3928710/making-of-xcoms-jake-solomon-firaxis-sid-meier
But, as Solomon discovered in 2003, making a good game is still hard work. After working with his small team for six months, Solomon unveiled his XCOM prototype ... and it was terrible.
"I made one of the shittiest, shittiest prototypes of a game that anyone has ever made," Solomon says. "I mean, I'd only been in the industry for three years. I'm lucky I even got the opportunity. ... And it was so shitty ... I had so much to learn. It wasn't fun. It was awful. It was awful. I'm not only the guy who remade XCOM, I'm also the guy who almost fucking killed it."
Pretty weird to find out that it'd been in the works since 2003 and had not one but TWO really crap prototypes, and then the third attempt was the brilliant Enemy Unknown as we know it. I didn't know Jake struggled so much for XCOM.
It got to the point where Sid and I were really close. I'd say, 'Aw, this is fuckin' terrible!' And Sid, all mild-mannered, would say, 'OK ...'
Didn't every team member have to finish UFO Defense before even working on the project?

Man if I had the money to do so, I would totally send this man an entire box of random cookies.

It's because this was Jake Solomon's dream game. He got into the game industry because of the original xcom and he always wanted to make a new one.
It's interesting that random maps was the big thing that Solomon had to compromise with for Enemy Unknown, and look where we are now with 2

At the cost of consoles getting it. Not that I mind, but I'm sure someone, somewhere is upset.

Acceptable losses, PC version made far more money anyway.
For most multiplatforms, the console versions will sell anywhere from two to three times what they sell on the PC. XCOM:EU is one of the few games where the ratio is entirely reversed.
Most multiplatform games are designed as multiplatform, XCOM was a PC game that had the UI tweaked a bit and ported to consoles.
Theory time
[sp] Based on the tweet from one of the dev's last year saying the volunteer is not dead, i still wonder if they will turn up in Xcom2 as a prisoner of the Ayy's. We'd rescue them from prison or whatever and they'll become a Gordon Freeman type character of the resistance which sets a world wide revolt in motion not just because of their psi powers but also because of the fact they've beaten the ayy's before. [/sp]
Also apologies in advance if i turn up in any of your BBQ lists, i'm largly unreliable and tend to get alot of people killed.

[sp]XCOM 2's plot is "What if XCOM fucked up first time?", in 2 most of the first game never happened and XCOM got shut down in the first few months[/sp]
Beagle posted my memetrash picture on his twitter. Beagle confirmed memetrash.

That'd be kind of dumb, XCOM isn't really the kind of game that suits "heros", other than the ones you make yourself, having some soldier that isn't one of yours become the plot critical hero of earth would be completely against the tone of the rest of the game.

I mean, it would go against the tone of the game.
But at this point there's an intergalactic occupying force inhabiting the planet. I don't know what the win condition could be for this game, other than time travel or digging up a body with smallpox and dropping it in their food supply.

[sp] i never said the gifted chartecter stayed in the dimension where the war was won when the ship exploded, likewise who's to say that you could not import your own hero seeing as importing characters is an actual thing this time around.
The ship litterally exploded but apparantly they aint dead, ergo, what happened to them? maybe the AYY's in this dimension found our gifted volunteer somehow and used them to take over this version of earth or maybe they are part of this new project we're trying to stop, or maybe it's just a throw away tweet that no one thought much of[/sp]

Where are people getting this "import characters from EU/EW" thing from? As far as I know the only import function is to import characters into a character pool.

That's what i mean, you make your own people in the charecter creator and they turn up in the story, not actually take them out of EW/EU. Any important charcter would still be your own creation that way.
One good thing about Long War is it makes you learn the hard way, so if you decide to switch back to the vanilla game after playing LW, the aliens are totally fucked :v:
for real, vanilla is like playing tic tac toe now
[editline]24th January 2016[/editline]
in my last downed small UFO in LW i encountered 5x mutons, 3x berserkers, 2x mechtoids w/ sectoid support all grouped together in the same contact, i aborted so there could still have been another pod in addition to the overseers
[editline]24th January 2016[/editline]
i love how, despite the fact that i chem grenaded all three berserkers on first contact, they're so fuckin stacked with mobility that i still lost two soldiers, and therefore two sets of armor and weapons that take like 120 alloys (probably more??) and 2 weeks to build, the losses just pile on for every mistake (what that mistake was i'll never know)
i am so over long war

[sp]I know this is true but why would the devs bother mentioning the status of the volunteer if XCOM 2 was an alternate canon?[/sp]
[sp]I know this is true but why would the devs bother mentioning the status of the volunteer if XCOM 2 was an alternate canon?[/sp]
How long ago was it mentioned? Maybe they changed what XCOM2 is about since
[sp]I know this is true but why would the devs bother mentioning the status of the volunteer if XCOM 2 was an alternate canon?[/sp]
It was just in response to queries about the [sp]Volunteer's[/sp] status, iirc. It wasn't tied to anything about the sequel, just about the aftermath of XCOM 1.
Which is irrelevant, since XCOM 2 is an alternate timeline where XCOM lost.
Also, I've been feeling that something has been amiss with this thread for a while and I've finally just realised what it is - The fact that Jeep-Eep hasn't been posting. I guess they were really serious about avoiding the thread until XCOM 2 is released.
How long ago was it mentioned? Maybe they changed what XCOM2 is about since
I remember an article in late 2014 mentioning it, so chances are that XCOM 2's story was already finished at the time. I highly doubt that it's of any relevance though.
[sp]the ending is going to involve the Volunteer coming through a portal from the reality where XCOM won, he will then help you defeat the Aliens in this reality OR, he came through the portal at the same time the aliens showed up and foolishly tried to help them to see if he could end the war and save as many lives as possible. If neither of these is the case ban me for a week[/sp]
:toxx:
enjoy your 1 week ban i guess?
