I really feel like there needs to be a fifth difficulty between Veteran and Commander.

Lt. Commander?
After 11 days recuperating because a sectoid shot him in the face, the Goddamn sexual tyrannosaurus is back in action.

Until a stun lancer ran across the map and shoved his sword in his gut. Time for another 15 days in bed!
Playing Commander since I'm pretty experienced with XCOM:EU/EW. Get contacted to do an easy mission. Rescue VIP and bring him to extraction just a few feet to the side and 2 stories up. Easy.
I end up facing down three ADVENT Troopers, three Lancers, a Sectoid (and his meat puppet), a Snek and a Mech. I still only had 4 soldiers because I'm starved of manpower and building space (seriously, I get tons of supplies, but no people). We started in a flat parking lot at a car dealership. The enemies were by a bunch of tall buildings with climbable pipes. We got exploding cars for cover. They got sniper positions. The target was in a van. We killed the initial Snakeu and Lancer patrol. I then see the target through transport van and so did the Mech, activating his pod consisting of himself and two Troopers. The Mech could see the target and actively shot at him while he was in the sealed van (through the grace of the fickle ayygods, it missed and blew a hole through it for him to wiggle out of). This conflict, in turn, promotes a dropship to come in that deploys two lancers and another trooper a turn later.
There are MAJOR balancing issues right now. At this point in the game of XCOM:EU, I would be shooting down, at most, one or two squads of three 4 health floaters, some sectoids and the big boss: 5 whopping health Outside; not three 4 health Troopers, three 7 health "Chryssalids" that, albeit do less damage than the originals, but can make a dash and slash and can act like troopers (if not actively shoving your shit in), one 8 health + 2 armor Mechtoid Jr. and one 8 health Ssssuper Thin Girl.
Don't get me wrong, I really like 2. A lot. I really want to like it, but right now, it's just not worth getting frustrated. Getting seen and shot through floors/walls/cars, instant death from a surprise Faceless collapsing the roof under you, excruciatingly slow research progress due to barely getting any engineers or scientists, time limits EVERYWHERE on missions and hell, the [sp]~Avatar Project~[/sp], and just staggering amounts enemy power creep. It's XCOM: Short War, cause you'll be dead by month four.
I love Jane Kelly ('s outfit)

It's a bit of a disappointment there's no special animation for attacking a Stun Lancer with Ranger's melee. You know, like the one MEC Kinetic Fist vs Berserker had.
man, really bumming me out that people are having a shitty time with the release. bad launches aren't the end all be all these days so i'm just hoping this doesn't spoil it all in the long run. XCOM EU was a slow burn in terms of popularity and firaxis always plays the long game so chins up i guess.
And his name was...

He's wrestling in the big ring up in the sky
What does it mean for ranger when it says they can move independently in concealment? I want to say that means the ranger can break concealment but the other classes stay concealed.
Other way around.

Can you send me his character pool?
:snip:
wow i just had my entire team wiped because i missed two 80% shots in a row thats xcom baby
But otherwise, I'm really digging the game. It chugs a bit at the start of the mission on my gtx 970, but otherwise runs silky smooth.

People are down on the timed mission thing but I actually really like it. It keeps missions short and sweet and the stealth system lets you be more comfortable making daring moves, plus it keeps you from just overwatch crawling to victory like in Enemy Unknown.
Third mission in: VIP extraction. Twelve turns before forced extraction (I assumed it meant I'd have 12 turns before the VIP was moved along and/or I'd have to call for an extraction manually. Decide to take a long route around so I could get a good firing position around the truck. Take 5 turns to carefully make my way there, but execute a flawless attack on the advent + reinforcements, took another 3 turns. More reinforcements drop in right next to the extraction point across a parking lot and I spend 3 more turns killing them. Only the VIP had enough run tiles left to make it to that points. Set up all my guys around the parking lot bracing for more advent, thinking I could fire off an evac in the middle and pile my guys in after the timer ran out. Timer runs out, says flawless execution, no wounded, no dead, so I think "guess I didn't have to do anything?" But the skyranger pilot quickly crushed my dreams when she said "no xcom soldiers accounted for, all killed or MIA, returning to base." Oh.
Turns out now they've all been captured. Well, I guess I get to rescue them. Also its a good thing I put some rookies on that line up otherwise I'd only have one healthy non-rookie left in my barracks.

Oops lol.
The line of sight indicator was a very good addition to the UI, and now I really really want it to show if you'll be flanking or not.

I think it's pretty par for the course for Firaxis, to be honest. You just have to ride out the initial rough release and the games usually end up fine.
I think we need a new operation names guy

Can you still look at the grid view to see what tiles you can't walk to, letting you know where enemies are without actually seeing them? I remember occasionally using that to cheap out people playing with mimetic skin in multiplayer.
Are operation names randomly generated or something? All the ones I've seen so far are fucking awful like a computer generated them from a list of words.
Has anyone found a way to modify how effective the lance troopers are? Also, are there any mods worth downloading as of yet?
All this customization and I'm not even bothered to outfit any of my guys with how bad enemies can glitch out on-top of their normal toughness.
[editline]6th February 2016[/editline]
Dropped in right next to a robot, lance trooper and a normal soldier.
Second turn, two guys dead and one panicked. :suicide:

I'm trying to figure it out right now
In DefaultGameData_CharacterStats.ini there is AdvStunLancerM1, AdvStunLancerM2, and AdvStunLancerM3. M3 is slightly stronger than M2, and M2 is way stronger than M1, but I'm not sure if this correlates to game difficulty or campaign progress or what.

Vipers ain't shit and neither are turrets.
What the hell man, one of my rookies panicked and threw a grenade into a group of civilians
I thought we were the good guys ;_;

I'm not sure, but I don't think that's difficulty since there's separate _Diff_ templates for each difficulty.

"They were probably faceless"
Concealment seems kinda ridiculous. [sp]I was able to sneak into an alien facility and plant a bomb without getting spotted. You can also just place the evac point right where all your troops are so you're out of there in two turns or less.[/sp]
