XCOM V4: "Svinnik - Why is Shen's daughter asian, when Shen is black?"

Capture the vip bugged out like crazy for me
I subdued the target and then she was missing
What's weird is that, apart from the occasional mission intro and when something happens (camera switches quickly or something like that), I run the game at mostly 60 fps with everything apart from AA maxed. Sure I have a pretty meaty machine (i5 4690K, GTX 980, etc.), but I've been hearing of people with the same kinds of specs or even higher having bigger issues. I haven't encountered any graphical glitches either (tons of visual bugs, though, but it's Xcom so it's like a feature at this point). It's by no means acceptable but I had the exact same thing with Arkham Knight, too, where I could easily play it with around 30-40 fps without much bigger drops while people with better machines had worse performance.
But yeah, if you're having big issues with performance in Xcom 2, turning off or down (FXAA, SSAO) AA, AO and DoF should help out a ton.
Hell my specs are lower graphics card wise and I'm running it fine, great even, I only get occasional lower FPS during loading screens, but it's a loading screen so that's fine.
I've got a GTX 960, and yet everything is running pretty freaking well.
That SMG mod is OP for rangers, especially after you get that +3 damage on flanked enemies upgrade, that makes it almost as powerful as the shotgun normally is, one of my blade rangers can run half way around the map thanks to an SMG, top rank mobility PCS, and a wraith suit.
Damn, the faceless are so secretive not even the rest of the ADVENT force knows who they are!

Guys just a few questions before I buy the game, I'd be grateful for any answers!
I have a GTX 560 (fucking old computer) but will upgrade to 970 sometime this week (hopefully). With all the performance issues I've been hearing about, is there any point in picking the game up now or should I wait for the GPU first?
Does the boxed version actually contain data on disc? I'd much rather buy the game in a physical format because my internet is not the greatest around, but if it just going to be a steam installer I'll just buy it off Steam. I don't mind patches and downloading bits and pieces but I wouldn't want to be stuck with a 40gb download.
Finally, how bad is the turn limits? I've heard a lot of criticism in a lot of different places, and while watching Beagle's videos made the turn limits seem exciting and give you a push to do things quickly, I can see myself being very frustrated with them very quickly. Do they really limit tactical play and force you to gun and run as much as people are saying or is it an exaggeration?

Kind of a mixed bag, sometimes they make things exciting other times you simply don't get enough turns to deal with whatever random chance throws at you
I wouldn't really be concerned about that though, there's already several mods that make them more bearable in many different ways. I'm using one that only starts the countdown once your squad is revealed, so if you play your cards right you get plenty of time to reach the objective and plan the engagement

It does, but you need to do some simple command line stuff to install from disc because steam defaults to downloading it
Don't use Beagle's videos as basis to your strategies/opinions about the game, at least not yet
He played a beta version that had a bug he exploited a lot and that's what made the game looks so easy for him (well, on top of him being a good player, of course)
That exploit doesn't exist anymore

I'm pretty sure you should be able to run it with a 970, unless your other specs are absolute trash from the year 2000. About the disc thing, no idea.
The turn limit design is a weird one. I have no qualms about it, like it, even, on occasion. Most people don't like it and I think it's because they're still thinking as they did with EU/EW, where you were much better off taking it slow and steady. Most of the turn-limited missions are the ones where you start off concealed, and you can usually just dash through 1-2 of the first turns, then set up and ambush and that's usually around 3 aliens dead already.
The thing is, though, that the turn-limit is hardly arbitrary considering the game as a whole. Ticking time and you being under pressure is kind of the whole deal, what with the Avatar project ticking and you needing to do a lot of things from the beginning to be able to survive. If that turns you off, there are already mods to kinda help about it, but I'd honestly tell you to wait for when the modding community starts to explode. If it doesn't turn you off and you can run it, I'd definitely tell people to go for it.
I started off with Commander and I honestly thought I'd fucking drown before the second month ended, it started out really, really rough. Like I was 2 points away from losing the game very, very quickly. Yet I somehow managed to salvage the situation and now I have only 6 points left on the counter and things are going really smoothly for me. Most of what people have bitched about hasn't really concerned me at all. I haven't felt like the turn limits have been unfair, or anything else for that matter. When things have turned sour, it's been pretty much my fault every time, even though at that particular moment I may not have felt the same way :v: Lot's of angry fucks and shits coming out of me, that's for sure.
By the way, as a side note to everyone. They Dark Event that makes it harder to sneak up on enemies isn't fucking kidding around. The distance is around 12-13 tiles around them. Trying to do a good ambush is nigh fucking impossible now.
is there an ini to change the names that new soldiers pull from? defaultnamelist in xcomgame/config just seems to be chances for them to have hats and stuff
Turn limits cause extremely dangerous metastatic of purposely going out into a flanked position just to advance. Some are stupid though like 6 turns to cap something but you have 4 pods in the way.

IMO Turn limits shouldn't start until you break concealment, and they should be individually configured for each map depending on 1. your spawn distance from the objective 2. the amount of pods around your spawn/the objective location and 3. the amount of reinforcement waves that can be triggered during the map
Should I just start over?

Wait, how exactly do the mods work in this game? Do you have to select all the mods you want to use before you start a playthrough? Or can you just load up some mods in the middle of a playthrough if you don't like a certain aspect of the game and you'd like to change it?

If you have ANY blacksites or Facilities, hit them ASAP. I was 2 blocks away from losing. Luckily I had two facilities and a blacksite to go. Smashed all 3 of them out one after the other and got the Avatar back down to it's half way point.

You can load saves with new mods, but you cannot deactivate a mod then load that save.

Sounds good, thanks. Looks like there isn't much reason to worry about the turn limits then. If it turns out that I really don't like them I can just tweak them in the middle of a game.

Do a plot mission, or blow up a facility. If you're unsure you can do it, you can always send your B team on a suicide mission, as long as you plant the X4, getting out is optional.
i think i fucked dun up because im getting 2+ secto pods

There's a whole bunch of weeks after it completes to set it back.
I just savescummed an entire mission out of my life. Eight turns to disarm some bomb. Three pods of ADVENT advanced soldiers and stun lancers, one pod of two pectoids and a snake. And another pod of two pectoids and a snake just a bit to the north of the bomb.
How the FUCK was that supposed to even be possible? Oh, not to mention the Stun Lancer reinforcements that dropped down when I had two turns left to get to the bomb.

Don't do it!
I had the project on 5 days until completion because i had to wait until my best squad had to heal up after a bad operation.
Then i raided an outpost and set the timer back 3 blocks.

Oh man whoever thought that it'd be a good idea for the Faceless to point at their target at the beginning and end of their turn was really, really wrong.
Holy shit, thank god you can call the skyranger to evac you anywhere. I was on a bomb mission and was stuck halfway to the bomb by a sectopod and andromedon with some advent covering them with 2 turns left 'til detonation.
Almost lost my entire A-Team to the bomb going off.
Bladestorm is so stupidly good. The ability to kill a viper who pulls your ranger is funny as fuck.
YOU JUST PLAYED YOURSELF VIPER *bladestorm*

I present my second mod, Stun Lancer Rebalance.
Rebalances Stun Lancers by:
- Reducing Lancer HP by 1/4 across all ranks and difficulties.
- Removing Lancer bonus crit chance for flank attacks.
I see Stun Lancers as agile, powerful foes in light armour who, if positioning your soldiers well and taking care to Overwatch, can be dealt with fairly easily. I feel like they're slightly too powerful in the vanilla game, hence the minor initial changes.
I'm open to suggestions on further changes to make, and please let me know your experience with the mod and what you think.
is it me or is this game really hard compared to EW? mission timers are eh, but there are so much pods in one mission and they have a fuck ton of health. im playing on normal too, and the only reason im still doing okay is because i savescummed the fuck out of each mission. do i just suck?
