On the subject of poking around config files, I found a bunch of stuff relating to EW, like terror variables. Any idea what the story is on that?
Just remnants from EW itself, as it uses the same file structures etc, they probably left code over as it's built somewhat on the same basis as the previous.
That and here and there it does still reference some old EW functions in odd places through the structure.

just leftovers in the code
there's a bunch of second wave stuff and people went all OHHHH SECOND WAVE FOR X2 but they all were exactly like they were in EW and they don't apply anymore
Can't wait for those Mec Trooper Mods to show up, so i have an excuse to build stuff over Psi Ops.
Get Psi Specialist, Train them to stupid levels, use it as an insane nuker for when you're about to be fucked in the ass or to possess a powerful enemy like a codex to dispatch a couple of enemies quickly.
I miss having shivs too, although they were cheap as fuck and downright the easiest way to make a huge turnaround from having your entire pro team die during an ironman impossible run.
i thought mecs and shivs were cheap before building a psionics lab in X2
seriously, anyone having problems with the game so far just start a new save and rush psi. you will have a totally different experience. psi-ops are utterly broken, they make the game a cakewalk
let's not forget the most op item in the game for the midgame-endgame.

I feel mindshield is so cheap in the midgame that sectoids become a fucking joke. i can kit myself out with these and laugh as they try to mindflay for the 4th fucking time and fail completely. It makes you completely immune to nearly all psi attacks, except from the really annoying codex ones or the ones that do direct damage to you. It should be an early game item to prevent cheap mind control/psi bs, but with these i never had panicking soldiers unless someone died near them, it should be a buff to psi resistance separate from your will modifier not a complete immunity to it. It's boring man because i literally had no reason to not bring these along unless i checked the units prior to the mission for psi aliens. It restricts your loadouts sure, but i always put these on my best crew. I feel tempted to just make a mod for realistic psi resistance or something.
Sorry if you guys feel differently but it's just boring man. XCOM EU was different i think, so it wasn't so strong at first until you stacked it with the psi armour and likewise.
The only thing I care about from sectoids is panicked, everything else can be solved by just killing it instead of taking up a slot to counter them.
Is there really so much psy-bullshit going on lategame that the mindshield actually becomes good? I haven't even built one of them yet because I never really felt the need to. I don't even care if a sectoid mind controls one of my guys because they're so easy to take out. I can see codexes getting much more annoying later on, but so far as long as I don't encounter more than 1 at a time they don't really give me much trouble.
Well I played some xcom 2 last night at 1am when I got home; couldn't stop myself till like 4am. Decided to just play on commander and have a fun ride. Jane Kelly died for me in my first mission (she became a ranger) and then I was gifted a swedish Thor and was able to recruit a 2nd mexican Jane Kelly :godzing: and Bradford from the dev pool. Gonna send out my character to the FP pool on my lunch.
I shat myself when I almost lost all 4 squaddies in the mission after that. My thor character panic'd at 1 health an advent shot, ran into a building and threw a grenade at an officer and a soldier that just spawned. Holy shit that could have gone worse. I feel so lucky a few of my soldiers didn't die after being flanked and ADVENT somehow spared my xcom lives, the ai really does what it can to flank your ass now

On veteran at least I never made one. Sectoids become a bit rarer and they're the main ones to worry about when it comes to psi stuff. If you do get mindcontrolled you'll have 5 other people to take them down, or you'll have class abilities that'll counter it.
Should I link this instead?

most of the codex's abilities can't be dodged even with mindshield, it does stop the [sp] Avatars [/sp] from doing some particularly nasty shit to you. Even if you don't use it early game, it's probably wise to be bringing them along at least for [sp] The very end of the game [/sp]. I'm not entirely sure if they stack with psi abilities but assuming it works like EU then yeah.
Personally i find sectoids more of an enemy in the early game (because of their higher than normal hp pools) that it's kinda necessary to bring shields along but again that uses up resources and you might want to invest that in something else. I like the extra sense of security for my high level troops.

That's not a meme beacon
Nothing like throwing a mimic beacon behind a car in flames, watch all the mutons shoot at it hopelessly and then the berseker going close quartes to punch him just to die in the explosion next turn

Early on I either bring medkits or grenades to get rid of cover, it really saved me quite a few times. An extra medkit also helped a lot, even if it was a one use medkit.
If not, medkits for everyone.

I at least bring one of those to rescue missions, it's hilarious.

I keep a grenadier for that and a techie for medkits.
I'm going demolitions grenadier for my impossible run and it's going wonderfully.
Also mimic beacons are really, really useful, I love how if you throw a mimic beacon behind high cover it also gives that mimic good cover :v:
I love using it when I need to reposition my snipers.
After messing around with Modbuddy, i have no idea where to start. I tried unpacking the UPK's but then i'm getting weird extensions like .SKELETALMESH and stuff, can't i just get the .psk and get started :/
Y'know what? Faceless are a fun enemy. Enough of an obstacle to not be trivial, but easy enough to deal with.
I just had a thought yesterday, what would happen if you had a whole squad with mime beacons?

Also, why the fuck does this guy keep doing this :v:

He never, ever misses though.

yesterday my ranger glitched out (because i kept save scumming) and the game lagged to a point where she missed her bladestorm and ended up holding her sword as her gun
later when she shot someone, the bullets emitted from the gun at her hip.
jane kelly, what are you doing
I feel there's something wrong with class balance in this game... why all my rangers fucking dominate everything? They just shoot their shard guns at sniper ranges like its nothing. Oh, what is that you're saying, little snek? You're in full cover? Fucking BOOOM - snek, meet rek.
It's getting ridiculous. Sniper nerf also wasn't all that nerfy.
Rangers are definitely OP compared to other classes. Ironically how the sniper in EU was the dominant late game class, I'd actually put the sniper at the bottom of the usefulness list for XCOM 2.
Is it worth building all the buildings in this game? I'm not sure how useful it would be for my soldiers to gain extra abilities when they rank up or to build the defense matrix.
Is the shadow chamber going to be useful after I researched the blacksite vial and codex brain? I built it with the belief thinking that it would allow me to research alien data caches separately from the research lab and with better efficiency but it's pretty useless so far since all the data points to locations I can't access yet

Snipers fall way off unless you get AP rounds.

my sniper with kill zone can't fucking hit anything while my ranger hits everything

it's actually incredibly useful if your soldiers get abilities outside of their class because i have a ranger with Serial and everything dies

Fuck the defense matrix, having a chance for random abilities can lead to shit like Snipers getting chainshot and soldiers getting kill zone so yeah it's useful. The shadow chamber is needed till the very end.
Berserkers are the best teammates. Both of the ones I have fought ended up killing their own teammates before they even thought about attacking me
The problem is that GTS bonus. +3 Damage against exposed/flanked enemies? That's insane, that can 1HKO if you just flank and get a crit.
kill zone is fucking awful, it works like 50% of the time. Serial on the other hand is a godsend especially when my sniper has 100% chance to hit from highground most of the time.
