It's that the avatar project has nothing to do with stopping the resistance, so it doesn't make much sense with it being the losing condition
I'm not even sure what the completion even entails considering [sp]there are already a few completed(?) avatars and the win condition is you murder them all whereas the avatar project was just to stop the elders dying on their own. I don't think there's any explanation why the avatar project being successful would actually have any effect on the resistance[/sp]
It's what i thought. [sp]What would even be the purpose of earth to the ethereals after they've accomplished their goal ? Isn't their search of the ultimate form the whole point of their planet hopping and subjugation of all these alien species ?[/sp]
[sp]Advent and the resistance would be of no concern to them after the completion of the project. Wouldn't they just move on ?[/sp]
[sp]If the Avatar Project was completed, they would have begun mass processing all on-essential human life into green goo to make their Avatars. The whole thing is so that the dying Ethereal's can gain continue to live, whatever the cost.[/sp]
[sp]But wasn't that for the research ? It's also implied (i think ?) that there's only very few ethereals left. And even if they were to turn half of the world's population into avatar goo, that seems like the type of thing to piss everyone off and fuel the resistance movement even further.[/sp]
Bradford, do we really need the x4 charges?

Also, wow...

That's a whole lot of nothing.

[sp]The Avatar project is about PERFECTING Avatars, not really doing much else. See how the perfected, commander's Avatar at the end is able to hold off and WIN against 3 Ethereals at once? They wanted that kind of power, which would have made them literally unstoppable.[/sp]

[sp]I think that's more because of the Commander's tactical mind rather than outright superiority. His Avatar is actually inferior to the Ethereal's. It has less health, no armour, and cannot teleport. The only advantage is passive health regeneration, as opposed to active health regeneration possessed by the Ethereal Avatars.[/sp]
Also I just thought of something, if Earth was invaded full-force 2 months after the initial incursion, does that mean EXALT never had a chance to form, and thus does not exist at all in XCOM 2's canon?
I never really got the point of dismissing soldiers until now. One of my soldiers has never landed a hit, panics all the time, and just now caused a soldiers death. I swear, commander difficulty has some hidden RNG shit that's made specifically to fuck you over.

When the Psi Rift hits the Berzerker/Faceless blob just right. :ok:
so xcom 2 is the first xcom game i've ever played, and i'm a bit confused about the whole avatar project mechanic. if it gets completed, do i just have to start the entire game over, or what? cause i'm in a place in my game where i can't easily make progress and i don't know how urgent i need to be about everything

Once it gets completed, you have a timer appear. If you can't set the project back before that clock finishes, you lose. You either have to reload an old save for the game, or just start over, yeah

Isn't EXALT supposed to be even older than XCOM ? I remember their HQ having a bunch of relics and shit and it's unlikely that something like that just cropped up out of nowhere. They probably never "activated" like they did in EW but still exist in some way.

Once the avatar project is completed your game is over. You can either load up a past save to see if you can do anything different to hinder their progress, or start a new game.

There is one when you failed some council missions, he says your performance was... mediocre

I guess it's a nod to that.
Why can't pick where your HQ is now?
Why can't pick where your HQ is now?
Because you're in a cool flying carrier thing
Because you're in a cool flying carrier thing
But you still have the resistance base where you start.
I'm wondering why you can't choose that.

You are the HQ

It just occurred to me that you don't actually pick where it is.
I really want someone to make an oregon trail mod where you have to get a group of resistance across the country. Along the way you can have classic oregon trail rng like, "Tommy got dysentery!" but then you could also have xcom style missions where you can fight advent troops to get supplies.

Someone needs to mod that in.
It's probably because it doesn't actually matter at all, the continent bonuses are also randomized.

It'd still be a nice touch, regardless.
Fourth Mission of my second attempt at a Commander campaign

There's also a stun lancer up on that roof, behind the trooper.
I have a single unit in this squad who's a Corporal, and everyone else are Squaddies.

Wow I didn't actually know you could start anywhere except for Africa cause 3 of my campaigns have been in Africa.

I haven't played EW yet, but from what I've read, EXALT goes active after 3 months, while XCOM 2 canon claims the war ended after 2 months.
Good god, I placed a ranger with bladestorm right in the center of an advent reinforcement zone and she massacred everything that came out with her fusion blade and any remainders were mopped up by overwatch shots. It was a bloodbath, they didn't even stand a chance

Luring melee enemies into a bladestorm ranger with a Mimic Beacon is really satisfying.
Lost another classic run, when do you guys usually assault the blacksite? I always push it off until it's too late.
Why can't pick where your HQ is now?
Because the HQ was established while you were playing war games in the diving suit.
