I would assume they did that so your organization stands out from other players that aren't VIPs/Bodyguards. It's still dumb though, because the blips and names of the players in your organization are highlighted in a distinct color anyway.

Is GTAV worth buying if you're mainly interested in GTAO? I really don't care about the story but GTAO sounds interesting.
That's 100% subjective. Just as many people think GTAV's story is bad and only played through it for the achievements.
GTA V Story gets boring after the 4th or 5th playthrough.

If you have some friends to play with and have the patience to put up with A LOT of bullshit when you're trying to rank up/earn more money(artificial difficulty, shitty matchmaking, cheating, and poor game balance), then it's probably not a bad game to pick up. I highly recommend trying to find a deal where you don't pay full price for the game though.

I honestly think that V's story is probably the weakest one we've ever gotten. It has a few cool moments, but most of the characters are boring as fuck in my opinion.
Also hey you don't know if he's getting it on PC or (next-gen) console. The latter is still pretty clean as far as MP cheating goes compared to PC, at least for now.
The grind isn't a grind if you do it with friends and know how to spice things up. Making custom jobs and getting people together to play them is a great way to have a good time and get RP and cash as well.

The singleplayer is great and online has it's problems but I finished the story and most of the missions within 12 hours where as I have well into the hundreds in Online. I'd say it's worth it even if yes technically singleplayer is the better half.

I still wish they struck a better balance between GTA 4 having no real progression and GTA 5 where everything in the game is locked behind some sort of level gate.

A possibly important point to note is I noticed them while doing VIP stuff with friends, so I'm not sure if they may be unique responders for VIP missions.

I found SAMP and MTA more fun than GTAO. You pretty much need to play GTAO with a group of friends whom you talk on skype or teamspeak or something.
