Pokémon games have had major stories for a while. Black/White in particular was really big on its story.

black and white were the ONLY ones with decent story/character motives. they completely dropped that in the trash with x and y

Everything looks like it's rendered like Lumiose City now. Everywhere else in XY was still on a grid like the sprite-based games.
