Going to keep this short and concise since I'm tired as hell right now before I catch some rest: A solution to the issues people have been having with the Bed Save system of survival, without compromising the way it was designed - Have Blank Holotapes as a medium-rarity loot item out in the world, akin to the Ink Ribbons of classic Resident Evil. The player can spend a Blank Holotape as if they're writing to a journal out in the wastes, and save out in the wild that way. It enhances roleplaying, gives the player more opportunities to save without encouraging save-scumming, and doesn't compromise the idea of why they restricted saving to beds in the first place. (I'll post this on Bethesda's forums in a bit)
I gotta say, Im with Janus Vesta on this one. The save system is a massive pain in the ass, but so is dying, which is reflected pretty well here. I've had to adapt an entirely new playstyle for survival - as expected - and as Janus said it's not one you can easily adapt from the normal playstyle. You can't expect to do anything more than one set task per day and you need to prepare for that set task. It also really helps to get into a roleplaying style timetable where you sleep through the whole night, wake up early, prepare food, water and your supplies, and go out and do what you need to do. Roaming around the wasteland and dying to stray bullets is part of the survival experience. The frustration of losing 3 hours of progress is not - that's the result of poor planning. This could just be me talking though - this is pretty much how I played FNV and TTW, so I'm used to ball-crushingly difficult fallouts. [editline]31st March 2016[/editline]
and spend your days actually having fun because you know you have something to fall back to if something goes wrong.
I also think it's worth noting that fun - like conventional, shooty-bang bang, firefight, fallout-flavor fun - isn't the intended goal of survival mode.
I think the "sleep all night, wake up and prepare for the day" thing would work better if the timescale was slower. Days feel very short as the game currently is.
There is a command to slow down time, but I don't know how that effects NPCs and what not.
Survival's timescales need serious tweaking. Having to eat 8 gigantic steaks to not go hungry in ONE day is insane.
All weapon models in my game that have to be held with both hands stopped loading. First person and third person models. So it looks like we are all having an imaginary gun fight.
There is a command to slow down time, but I don't know how that effects NPCs and what not.
Sadly the console is disabled in the beta so nobody can change it unless someone managed to get it reactivated. They should've kept it enabled though, I get stuck on terminals all the time due to my framerate and TCL fixes it. Plus it would be good for setting up scenarios and fucking with game settings to find bugs.
A natural conclusion [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/508152825986413116/D0272849EDE82E56747AB94531C1B762C222F21B/[/t]

I don't think I've been entirely clear that I'm not arguing against the sleep to save system. I like it actually, or at least I like the idea and goal of the system. The thing is, this isn't an ideal world and there are dozens of reasons that you can get screwed over and lose a bunch of progress with this system that has absolutely nothing to do with "poor planning." The issue here is that you either leave it as is with the incredibly frustrating potential of bugs or real life or whatever else getting in the player's way and causing them to lose progress (and to be clear about this point since I think it's part of the confusion in this argument to begin with, I don't necessarily mean lose progress like dying and having to reload, but things like bugs or characters dying or an item disappearing or any other number of traditional bethesda jank that might make you need to load an old save to fix is also a huge problem with the current system) or you compromise and lose some of the impact the system has to offer but make the experience more stable. I don't want the system to be removed or replaced, I just think it needs reworked and added to in order to reach a better middle ground for what it's trying to do. (also, personally I'd prefer if it were waiting/chairs instead of sleeping/beds for immersion reasons but that could easily just be me)
Anyone else bothered that it'll be called creation kit instead of geck? Its such a tiny thing but i loved it being called geck.
I imagine it's probably due to the engine it's running on.
I've over 110 mods active and have nary a crash.
Can you share what you've got? I've been wanting to get into a modded playthrough, but I haven't had much luck figuring out Armorsmith, ACKWR or whatever, and all the compatibility patches etc. [editline]31st March 2016[/editline]
In an ideal world I'd agree with you. They should just make it so you can customize which parts of Survival mode you want. Some people might only want the thirs/hunger/fatigue, some people might want ironman mode, some people might just want the better damage model.
What the fuck is the point in the Submachine Gun? Everytime I use it it's a fucking peashooter.
Survival's timescales need serious tweaking. I personally don't see the appeal with survival mode. Everything it changes seems to just make the game more tedious and needlessly frustrating, not more fun.

It's just hardcore in New Vegas, again. Just a taste thing, my dude.

Should be relatively easy to implement a Survival-lite for those who don't like the new save system anyway.

What the nexus needs is a TRASH catagory
By way of a possible explanation... Being hounded by the Gunners, MacCready found himself in Diamond City. He met Doc Crocker at the Dugout Inn who offered to carry out free facial reconstruction on him as long as he was allowed to be a bit creative with the results. "They will never recognise you with this face." Seeing the results, MacCready stopped himself from swearing and said something like... "I suppose it could be worse". Despite the disguise, an informant, Myrna from Diamond City Surplus told Winlock and Barnes from the Gunners about MacCready's visit to the Mega Surgery Unit and he fled to Good Neighbour with the two Gunners hot on his heels.
How can you say that it's not lore friendly when the author posted this completely valid explanation :vs:

Its a super tiny thing i know.
I've talked about how I don't like the complete lack of autosaves
There are still some autosaves, but I'm not sure where or how they're triggered, but there is one in the prologue, and after leaving the Vault.
They should make it so that it autosaves when you're in the clear and in a friendly settlement imo.
Or rather just enable any forms of saving while within friendly instance like diamond city etc or within area where you can open workshop aka settlement.
or if it autosaved every 30 minutes or so but only when you're not in combat.
Also disabling console is most retarded thing they can do, getting stuck in terrain is almost always bound to happen and now you can't even fast travel out.
Hopefully once GECK arrives and shi- people can figure out how to make proper Ironman using Survival save system. One save that automatically saves whenever you sleep or exit the game. And if you die; save file is dead.
This is supposed to be all creepy like Saw, right? [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/287475801384963407/36FF54CDF7C12E7E28ABD9676F7833D4B7CBFAF2/[/t] But while going through this I couldn't help by feeling bad for the poor guy who put his heart and soul into this. I mean, can you imagine how hard it must be to be a flashy serial killer in the Fallout world? [sp]All this work you put into gory displays of strung up bodies and heads on spikes? Pretty much every raider decorates his living room with worse stuff than that. The super mutants right outside the death maze have a whole street full of hanging human meat bags and shopping carts THAT THEY ACTUALLY EAT and you're trying to scare me with question marks and arrows painted on the walls? It's cute and everything, but seriously dude, everyone in the wasteland already knows how to make booby-traps and trip wires. Your shit is weak. [/sp]
