the list of predefined stuff in fo4 is far larger though
Like what ? You've got a spouse. You fucked that spouse in a ball park a year ago, so Nate isn't impotent and Nora hasn't gone through menopause. Shaun came out of that. You bought Codsworth after that, at an undefined time. Nate was in the war, in a specific company and at an unspecified time, but with an unspecified role. He wasn't a deserter but how well he performed isn't clarified. Nora has a lawyer's degree, but it's unclear whether it was ever used if at all. We just know it wasn't used in recent time as she had to take care of Shaun. That's pretty much it.
In Fallout 3 I was a fry cook. So I made my main weapons the flamer and shishkebab
But FO3 determines your exact date and place of birth (Jefferson Memorial, October 2257), your parent and mother (James and Catherine, both scientists), the fact you are at least mixed race (unless you play as an African-American), who your father knew, the fact you were to Megaton and then to Vault 101 within a year of being born, your friends and rivals as a child, etc. I don't think you're supposed to have ever practiced that job assigned by the GOAT, seeing as during these two years until you escape you are still a student (you can hear your dad talk about how Mr Brotch gave you shit grades). Although the goat sequence itself does determine how your character interacts with other people, your general alignment and how you solve problems in a situation where you actually can impact the outcome (brash, diplomatic, indifferent). Something FO4 does as well with the Vault Tec guy.
Yeah but the point is everything that happens In that intro doesn't really restrict you much later on. It doesn't assign you a sexuality or put you down as the kind of person to join the army, or settle down with kids. Everything that happens to you is out of your control and then you react to it, your character doesn't make any choices you wouldn't etc. Anyway this topic comes up like every 4 pages, people are probably really sick of it by now. Can we change the subject because it's obvious nobody here is going to change their mind on this?.
You could have joined the army for any number of reason. Settling with kids may just not be your first choice, or a choice at all. It's made pretty clear that Shaun happened as an accident because you and your spouse fucked in a ballpark, in otherwise unclear circumstances. You can still play an utter scumbag who joined the army to get chicks, did manage to get a chick and accidentally knocked her up. You can play as a weak nerd who joined the army because his family forced him to and bailed out as early as he could, then married another nerd who had nothing to do with the war to get away from it. You can play an overly patriotic dude who's a caricature of the perfect American dream family with a wife, a car and a (lost) dog. You can just be a violent asshole who wanted murder. Because you had to be in the army at some point doesn't mean there isn't like ten billion reasons for you to be here.
The biggest problem with Fallout 4's ability to let you roleplay or whatever is the lack of dialogue choices, no doubt. Even when you pick the meanest responses you're still mostly little more than just a mildly frustrated person.
Well to be fair if you were really that mean you could always just pull up a gun and start gunning people down. That and cannibalize them, which you can do.
Well to be fair if you were really that mean you could always just pull up a gun and start gunning people down. Seriously this topic has gone round and round in circles like this since launch, nobody is going to change their minds.
Fallout 4 still has more limited options than previous games but it's not nearly as restrictive as some people say.
"There's a war vet and lawyer couple in Boston, you're one of them, you fucked in the park once and that's why you have a kid named Shaun" is pretty damn sparse. Assuming I'm the war vet, why'd I get discharged? Did I only do one tour? Am I injured, or did I just pack my shit and go home? What's the lawyer's deal? Is she still practicing? Is she a Law and Order style lawyer or more of a Jeff Winger style lawyer? I'm pretty sure Bethesda was definitely going for preset protagonists with Fallout 4, but like many things in the game, it's just half-baked. Bethesda should have just labelled this game "Early Access".
And then go on to cry about your poor son 15 minutes later. Seriously this topic has gone round and round in circles like this since launch, nobody is going to change their minds.
You only have to mention your son to valentine and then to kellogg, and in both of those occasions you can mention your wife first and your son as byproduct. Also bringing up a discussion and then dismissing it because you find it boring is childish.
so when will someone make a "101 ways to kill preston" compilation video once the new workshop dlc is out
Can Preston actually die? [editline]5th April 2016[/editline]
Also bringing up a discussion and then dismissing it because you find it boring is childish.
Oh my god. It's hard not to find it boring when it plays out exactly the same way each time.
Can Preston actually die?
Heroes never die.
Stolen from reddit, some things a user noticed in the trailer you might have missed
I kinda wish you could piss Preston off enough that the minute-men mutiny on you. Ofc that would make it possible to lock yourself out of the ending completely. I love that fallout 4 lets you pick a side to join, it's such a step up from being forced to support the brotherhood against the enclave (with a few dumb evil choices that don't get you anywhere), but I feel these games really need a yes man style ending, because "wow all these factions are fucking dumb I want to shoot all of you" is a valid opinion that needs to be catered for. [editline]5th April 2016[/editline] Oh man the mounted cat's head is incredible.
When the GECK comes out I want buildable securitrons with all the bells and whistles that the other buildable robots get.
His companion quest involves breaking into Vault-Tec HQ and retrieving a pack of steak knives.
Steak knives should be unique melee weapon.
Robots always seem to kick my arse rather badly, especially the roving packs of badasses in the DLC. Guess I need to take the minigun out of storage, and spend all my caps on ammo for the bloody thing.
Remember when it comes to robots aim for limbs.

Might as well be early access! There's legitimate arguments to be had about why one is more free than the other, like the voice and your family being the focus of the story, but at least make those legitimate claims instead of somehow spinning a vague backstory into something bad.
just when you thought that that discussion died off [editline]ye[/editline] god for some reason i'd love to see really shitty slapstick humor machines coming from fo4
It never changes.
Honestly the real problem with the game isn't even your preset background even if its something that could have been handled better. The real problem is the lack of quests, lack of meaning, lack of variety, having a dumb kid and wife that insta-gib and overall just feeling like it lacks in being an RPG. Which to be fair, I'm being very hard on it, at times F4 does surprise and amaze, its just a shame it does not do it as much as it should be.
I hope Wasteland Workshop comes with some alternate settler job structures, like guard posts that aren't barbed wire barricades and shops that don't look like lemonade stands
Fallout 4 has so much less going on in its world than even Skyrim did, honestly. I still prefer Fallout 4, and enjoy the game to death, but it's fairly mediocre.
So I'm experiencing the Emogene Takes a Lover on survival, and of course its fucking glitched where she doesn't spawn in her room. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but since console is disabled because of muh immersion I'm now stuck with a broken quest.
I'm mostly disappointed by the lack of real, "unique" weapon or clothing in the game. That would have given us a reason to go to all those place. The fucking gym? you could have some nice unique colored boxing glove and a short for the man or literally some Aerobic outfit for the woman and the male. would have been nice to have more 50s themed unique cloth and everyday item. What happened to the combat armors white and green from the old fallout ? I hate the new "combat armor" we got. Why we haven't got that sweet hawaian photographer outfit from the concept art, maybe in a studio location? Many locations should have had theirs own little unique item/clothing/weapon but didnt. Why isnt there more concept art item in game? :( Boxing tapes? Power gloves? Where are they? hunting shotgun? riot shotgun ? Plasma casters? Why is there no Laser / Plasma revolver so you can be a futuristic cowboy? Why no bandana ? And to extend on some existing elements from the game, why are many things which has been made so pointless? I wish you could use Saugus ironwork to make your own material so you don't have to loot it, using dunwich so you can have miners working on it! Why i can't repairs many of those vehicle for use for my settlers to defend my settlements? Why the fuck i can't make school and teach my settlers so they can be scientist and give me the possibility of having a R&D settlements, them making item that diseappeared or literally new item on the wasteland (so they can show that technology still evolve)? And about the character, why is my character not becoming better with his fist overtime? I should be able to train him by firing in a firing range, for example, it shouldnt be a "locked" statistic. This is why fallout 4 should be called Wasted potential : 2. Too bad they lost money making 111k of meaningless voiceline (which isnt even sentence for most of them...)... And many totally useless NPC. Ann codman. Really? I can't WORK FOR HER? This is just ridiculous, she is useless and only there for talking.
His companion quest involves breaking into Vault-Tec HQ and retrieving a pack of steak knives.
You can do a quest with him? All I did was send him to sanctuary.
You can do a quest with him? All I did was send him to sanctuary.
Nah they were just making a joke
