I am having a massively hard time deciding whether or not to buy this game. I feel like it's absolutely worth it, but I can't figure out how long I'd really play it, especially considering I'd have no friends that play it. I absolutely loved the beta, and I don't doubt I'd play this a ton, but I don't want to waste $45 (I'll get it off a key site if anything) to play a game for a week or so then get bored. I certainly wouldn't get it for $60, but $45 sounds somewhat reasonable. I really want to play it, but I just started working and my money feels kind of valuable to me at this point. I'm probably asking in the wrong place considering anyone in this thread probably likes the game, but can you guys persuade/dissuade me? I'm feeling like it'd be good to at least hold me over until Dark Souls II. If there's some sort of Facepunch group or something that'd be cool too, at least then I'd be playing with you guys rather than pubs.
I haven't been playing with friends since I got the game and I've been having loads of fun just playing with strangers. That said, I do enjoy playing MP games as a loner, as it were.
Is it just me or is the Sidewinder a whole lot better than in the beta.

As a whole it's a really solid experience, but that's about it. The game just feels bland in every other way. It may have a long lifespan and it may not -- the game seems to lack so much content that it's not even funny. ten guns? really? i can understand the limit of titans but for sixty dollars i expect some content it may be one of those games that stays sixty bucks for four years like call of duty or it could be one of those games you can find in a bargain bin by november. we'll see. but to me it's not really worth sixty bucks. play the game for eight hours and you've seen everything it has to offer.

Every gun in this game is reasonably unique which solves a lot of balance issues. Look at BF3, there are 13 assault rifles, they all do the same thing and only 2 or 3 are worth using.

I understand the viewpoint that variety isn't everything, but it really is. even if the guns are all the same stats, it doesn't matter -- you should at LEAST have the option to have this rifle or this rifle. not just one rifle. [editline]19th March 2014[/editline] i mean it just baffles me that they think it's okay to literally have the bare minimum EVERYTHING
The variety is nice though ONE shotgun? one assault rifle? two submachineguns? one LMG? One's going to kill the fastest and it's going to be the best.
There isn't much room for useful variety in a game with mostly hitscan weapons.
people say that the MSBS is the best gun in call of duty ghosts but it doesn't really matter what gun does the most damage in the quickest amount of time--the weapon is only as good as the player using it
That doesn't change the fact that there's no reason to use a gun that kills slower if they both do the same thing.
and who said useful variety? it's not the idea that every gun should be different. you should just have more guns in every class. give me more assault rifles. give me more LMGs. give me a pump action shotgun. just because they feature ONE gun of every type of weapon out there doesn't make it acceptable at all. games like these NEED content because they're the game that everybody in the general market want. if people pick up a game with the worst campaign ever, ten guns and say it was the best sixty dollars they've ever spent I think I'd have an aneurysm it's when people get hyped for something that isn't even really that hype worthy and then are SO in to the hype that they feel invested to say that it was worth it and that the product is good even though it's really not. because it's people like that who let the standards go lower and lower. why the fuck am I buying a sixty dollar game with ten guns in it and an hour long campaign? how is that considered a call of duty killer. call of duty has eight times as much content as titanfall does [editline]19th March 2014[/editline] and i'm not even talking about the campaign. not really. do you NEED more than one gun of every type? no, but when you invest hours upon hours upon hours playing the game, those weapons aren't going to change. you can play with each gun in titanfall and unlock all of the addons for it within the first thirty minutes of using it. that's not bad, but let's not forget that the addons only consist of extended magazines, silencers, usually some kind of buff or something and scopes. so you're telling me if i unlock every primary weapon in the game, it's only going to take me around maybe five-six hours to unlock all of the addons for the primary guns? where is the longevity at? [editline]19th March 2014[/editline] i mean if titanfall didn't have such an excellent core experience people would play the game for just those five-six hours and be done with the game forever

"Content" doesn't matter if it doesn't change the gameplay in any meaningful way, and having too much of it tends to actually degrade the game because it's hard to balance a large weapon set. The longevity is in the gameplay itself, not skinner box bullshit.
Does this game have falloff damage? Cause I've been meeting a lot of rifle snipers lately.

Speaking of which, I'm really starting to miss the days of weapons with alt-fire and when the weapons are strategically placed around the map as opposed to just having loadouts. I hope we get a resurgence of that type soon.
Does this game have falloff damage? Cause I've been meeting a lot of rifle snipers lately.
Yes, take a look at http://symthic.com/titanfall-weapon-charts [editline]19th March 2014[/editline] i just noticed the SMGs are more accurate than the rifles, what
Okay... so, I'm getting a "yeah you COULD buy it" Honestly I'm sort of okay with the lack of variety for weapons. At least there are add-ons and such to work towards. I actually hate variety like in Borderlands where I have to spend hours deciding which of my fifty guns to use. Plus, again, I'm only paying $45, and while it's only $15 less, I think feel like it's a bit more reasonable. I'm kind of slowly convincing myself more and more, but I just feel so indecisive. So, yeah, say I play the game for a few hours and I've seen everything it has to offer. I loved the beta, playing 2 maps between 3 gamemodes (mostly just the same one, switching every so often). That's what's making me think it'll last for me, I guess. Do you guys personally feel that is has lasted/will last a decent amount of time for you? Like, at least 40 hours of gameplay?
i got 40+ hours on the beta, and i just hit 50 on the actual game, so yeah :v:
Well that looks like fun.

They have had pretty much the exact same weapons in every iteration of the game since it came out in 2000, plus maybe 2 or 3 and a few changed out. Behind Dota 2, CS:GO is the most popular game on Steam by nearly 3x compared to the next game. Aside from the graphics, sound, some weapon handling, and map redesigns, it's the same game as it was ~13 years ago. The reason it's still the most popular game on steam behind Dota 2 is because the gameplay is fantastic. Hell, look at Shootmania storm. That game could not be more bare minimum, there's all of 3 (possibly more now?) different weapons, no customization whatsoever, and bare bone maps. I would still consider it some of the most fun i've had playing a shooter in recent years because the gameplay is great. With all that being said, Titanfall is NOT worth the price. CS:GO isn't $60. Shootmania isn't $60. They can get away with having smaller amounts of content because you're not paying $60. Titanfall should be $20-$40 considering the content it does have isn't enough to warrant being any more than that [editline]19th March 2014[/editline] Considering i bought it using a mexican VPN for less than $50 i'm quite happy with my purchase
so you're saying it's okay to pay full price for a game that's multiplayer only (not even going to mention the campaign, or is it lack of?) and has almost as much content as a bargain-bin shooter? i mean i'm glad i bought titanfall. i've had a hell of a time with it but now that i've regened the novelty of the game has worn off substantially. i definitely didn't get sixty dollars out of this game. obviously not everybody is going to feel that way, but i'm just going to reiterate that if publishers hype a pet rock and make it sound like it's this amazing new idea that kids will love and if they make a thousand commercials about it and present it everywhere, kids are going to want it. parents will line up outside the toy store to buy it. but it's still just a rock. and that's exactly what they're doing. there's nothing next-gen about titanfall. it has the bare-bone minimum for content. it has no singleplayer. it has, what, five game modes if even that? how do they justify that being worth sixty dollars? because it was hyped? how come its competitors have so much more for the same value? this shouldn't be acceptable at all. if people go and buy shit like this because whoohoo hype train then this is just going to become the norm. why bother making AAA titles when you can just make a shitty indie game and hype the everliving shit out of it?
So you want filler content as weapon skins that just do what the other guns do but worse?

These challenges are really no fun to do when half the damn time I have packet loss.. everything is literally teleporting
So you want filler content as weapon skins that just do what the other guns do but worse?
i want my money's worth and if they want to make the game sixty dollars and not even have the courtesy to add single player, then why not? hell, you don't even have to add more guns. just give more addons. give skins and customization or something. this game has less content than payday 2 and payday 2 was thirty dollars

Also I'd like the weapon models to show when there are attachments to them, like, in the menu aswell.
Did you just call FUCKING QUAKE and FUCKING TRIBES, bargain bin shooters? yeah, you're just trolling.
i never mentioned quake or tribes i was thinking more like syndicate and all of those multiplayer-only killzone knockoffs that made good companies go sour and made companies like codemasters stop making first person shooters forever. you know; your game that comes out at fifty dollars or whatever and gets marked down to twenty dollars within three months? those are bargain-bin shooters

This game is great, but I wish people had better connections. I ejected out of my Titan and started running on a rooftop when I suddenly combusted. I watch the killcam and I was apparently shot out of the air?? [editline]19th March 2014[/editline]
Did you just call FUCKING QUAKE and FUCKING TRIBES, bargain bin shooters? yeah, you're just trolling.
Wow what the fuck. Tribes and Quake are free to play!
