A friend and I thought we'd try every gun while we still could. Eventually, we came to the smart pistol. Wonder if they'll tweak it before release...
just remember, you only killed 15 actual players minions are bots, and thus easier to kill in general. locking onto players (unless you have the burn card for the suped up smart pistol) takes like a minute, with all the running around.
I think they should do something about the melee to be honest. I've run in to so many players that just run around and spam kick.
I don't know why people instantly dismiss the smart pistol and assume anything can instantly beat it. The smart pistol is actually a pain in the ass to fight because no matter what you do, they will still hit you. Even when I get shot by a normal gun, I have the slight chance to at least turn around or start jumping or wall-running or something to try and evade it. You can't evade the smart pistol. And it's not like he's going to be standing there just aiming waiting for you to shoot him. He's going to be running around as fast as possible so you can't hit him. While you're both jumping around like idiots avoiding bullets/lock, he has the advantage. You'll be firing a spray of bullets and about 80% of them will probably miss depending on the location, where as all he has to do is keep you near the middle of the screen. Sure, the normal guns may win in a 1v1 open area with no way to evade, but with the constant wallrunning, I can run circles around people while locking onto them with the smart pistol. No matter how much they try to aim or run, I will eventually get the lock and kill them instantly, and there's nothing they can do about it to avoid it. All they can do is jump left/right. They can't wall-run because then they would have to aim away from me, so the most they can do is spam double jump in random directions in hope to break the lock. Their best attempt to break a lock is to try jumping over the one using the pistol, but if the pistol holder is smart, he will keep enough distance to make sure that doesn't happen as easily as the target would hope. The smart pistol is actually a ridiculously good gun. It can instantly kill anyone unsuspecting and allows no reaction time to even try and resist it. It can maintain a lock despite any of the enemies attempts to evade it (excluding hiding behind a wall). People commonly exaggerate the lock time when it really doesn't take that long at all. The amount of time it takes to lock is probably less than the amount of time it takes the normal weapons to kill someone in the same situation (wall-running/jumping/etc). It's a fairly quiet weapon which can make it hard to tell which direction it's coming from. It's extremely efficient at killing grunts to get your titan cooldown down. To use the Smart pistol against other players efficiently, you need general FPS-games skill, but the weapon itself is too easy to use against other players. They should probably increase the lock-on time against other players to prevent it from completely destroying other people. Right now it's basically a gun that makes people that are already good at FPS games even harder to deal with for the average player. [editline]20th February 2014[/editline] Also, it's not like you need all 3 locks to fire at someone. If you just get one or two, you already have a good deal of damage dealt to them and can easily finish them off without even using the locking feature.

The smart pistol is some bullshit because once the player you're fighting who is using the smart pistol pulls the trigger you have a 0.2 second window to kill the cunt, otherwise there is literally nothing you can do to stop it. If someone was using a different weapon you can at least whip around and shoot the cunt in the face but you can't do that with the smart pistol. Sure in a 1v1 fight you really should beat a smart pistol user but outside if that if someones a tricky fucker while using the smart pistol, it really is some bullshit for real. tl;dr smart pistol isn't OP neccesarily but it needs some tweakin cause once the enemy pulls the trigger you're super dead and there is almost nothing you can do about it. [sp]im pissed as a fart sorry if this makes no sense[/sp]
I disagree with you guys about the smart pistol. I've come across many pilots with myself using it and they move too fast for me to keep in the reticle long enough so that I can get a lock on them. I end up spamming it until I kill them, but that's not the lock-on. In similar situations, I get killed quite a few times because they can shoot me faster than I can wait for the lock on. Also, the lock-on is plenty long enough for the reason above. It's only really good against unsuspecting pilots or minions. Like I said earlier, people seem to be triple-polarised on it. Like I also said earlier, I love it due to the parkour styled gameplay that comes with it.
The only thing I would do to nerf the smart pistol is to have a lock warning like Titans do, but that might be too much

Holy fuck the ending, i hope i'll be able to climb that animal with my titan!
I'm going to miss the beta aswell. I'm not entirely sure that I'm going to buy it, but I'm definitely going to check out people's reactions once the game goes live. Here's my final beta stats: [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img268/1812/gykx.png[/t] Apparently I must have been quite effective with the Quad Rocket since I can do a whopping 46 kills with it per minute... I think the only time I used the quad rocket was when I emptied the mag on my 40mm cannon, then picked up the quad rocket from the ground, emptied its mags and swapped back to the 40mm cannon again. Must have gotten 1 or 2 kills with those rockets .. :v: 75% MVP of 119 games is pretty cool though.

It's like the weapon was made for attrition, it's way too powerful against minions. You don't even have to try to win.
one thing i dont understand is why people use the sniper and camp with it that is not how you play the game, you're meant to always be on the move too many people trying to play the game with a CoD mentality

As long as everyone on the team are reasonably competent, you'd be stressed to pass 12 pilot kills.
Holy fuck the ending, i hope i'll be able to climb that animal with my titan!
I hear the extent of interaction with alien wildlife is the threat of birds swooping down on like one map, but they'd be really stupid to not add some kind of horde mode eventually
I played Titanfall beta for 15 or so minutes and completely uninstalled that shit. The game is boring and lack-luster. For me, totally not worth $60 bucks. I'd rather save that Geez for other games, or spend some of it on Wolfenstein + Doom beta access.

That laser cannon thing was probably my favorite anti titan weapon, I hope you can unlock it in the final game

Played it, got to level 14 in a very short time, one problem i see is the 6v6 but with the smaller maps it's to late to change that now. The game was very fun and the Smart Pistol was more fun than should be allowed! When i played for awhile and you start min/maxing as i always do the game got boring really fast, just call down the titan place it on Follow and continue running around killing shit was more optimal than being in the titan and to be honest the rodeo is too OP, i feel that it should be harder to take down a mech as infantry. And lastly in attrition killing only grunts with the smart pistol is more optimal than going for only kills. (Hope someone can read the rambling) Short, is it worth 60$? No. Is it worth 30-40$? Yes very much so! I think buying it a month after release is probably your best bet.
I know that there's only one titan you can use in the beta (maybe more from cards) but it just really is never going to scratch the itch from other mech games. The on-foot combat is fun though, the whole emphasis on freedom of music reminds me of Brink, but on smaller maps. It's kind of a shame that they went for 6v6 though. I'm more used to slower paced mech combat from games like Chromehounds. I wonder if they'll ever make a sequel to that game... Nothing quite compares to spending so much time to tweak a double barrel cannon to fit around a spacer.

They boosted XP gains so everyone could get to level 14 quickly before the beta ended. There will be more levels and slower level progression in the final game. 2. The game was made for 6v6 and the map size was okay. I never really felt claustrophobic, even in a Titan. The maps were balanced quite well considering their assymetry, and that's all that matters. It's enough of a challenge to parkour between points already, they are spread out just the right distance. 3. Rodeo isn't OP, if you try it on anyone smart they instantly recognize the sound of their Titan's roof plate being ripped out and instantly disembark to take care of the intruder. I think it's actually pretty useless, it shouldn't alert the pilot, Titan's healthbar rapidly depleting with it's shields untouched is enough of a warning, not to mention the aforementioned distinct sounds. Either way, I do it very rarely due to aforementioned reasons and just use archer from a safe spot instead. Rodeo is for the most part just a tricky way to lure the pilot out of his Titan. EDIT: There's also electric smoke which makes rodeo even more risky. Just don't do it.
The only thing I would do to nerf the smart pistol is to have a lock warning like Titans do, but that might be too much
I would just turn the targeting size way down, so it's easier to juke people trying to lock you by jumping around and shit when I see the killcam on a smart pistol lock-on kill half the time it's these mongoloid idiots who can barely control their camera who just stand in the corner and try to lock people going by

EDIT: There's also electric smoke which makes rodeo even more risky. Just don't do it.
I don't think it's OP, but I disagree with this. I've gotten tons of titan and pilot kills with rodeo just by paying attention to when a pilot gets out or jumping off in the time before the smoke gets electrified and hopping back on. if you have extended mags for the R101-c just swap between that and your pistol and you can take away more than half of a titan's health without reloading - and if you call down your titan while you are doing it as a distraction, and/or have a teammate in a titan drawing their fire, you can pretty much demolish it anyway. There were plenty of games where I had a friend that would stay in his titan and I would just do that and I would barely even die that much.
I always went to jump on an enemy titan that was attacking a friendly titan, No pilot will EVER get out of their titan when engaged with a hostile titan. If someone tired the same trick on me I just game them the "jazz mist" and usually got a kill before they did any significant damage.
If there are birds really swooping down to pick up people, hope we can vortex shield the birds and fling them at the opposition

If you actually spent time on the game you would realize it's not boring or lackluster.
