I waited too long to download the beta and it expired before I could play it. :v:
Hearing that you are outclassed three to one and winning the fight was amazing, people underestimate 40mm + damage core + critical hits
So, I had fun in the beta but won't be buying the game on release. Here's why. Titan VS Titan combat: It's pretty boring. Because of the regenerating shields and inability to heal hull damage, the only effective tactic for titan-v-titan battle is turtling, popping out to shoot, and repeating. It's either that, or suicide-rush the other titan and hope you can melee/rocket salvo them to death before they do the same to you. Not to mention that 2v1 Titan fights are completely one-sided forgone conclusions. I know the game acknowledges this (by screaming at you every time you take damage from 2 titans at once) but it's still crappy game design, especially since you run into situations where one team keeps their titans alive and just murder every opposing titan as they drop in with their permanent numbers advantage. There needs to be some kind of rock-paper-scissors mechanic that lets certain titan types/armaments get the upper hand in situations where normally it would be a stalemate. Better survivability in close-range encounters would be nice (like regenerating your shield by meleeing), as well as some way of avoiding confrontation with other titans (currently impossible due to same amount of boost for everyone and small maps), like a temporary holographic disguise as the opposing team's titan similar to the spectre camo burn card. It just seems like Titan combat is very similar to pilot combat without all the interesting things like vertical movement and high-risk, high-reward tactics (melee, shotgunning, etc.). You just have two giant metal things trading damage until one explodes, or two giant metal things mercilessly slaughtering a third metal thing that has no chance to fight back. Maps: I love Angel City so much. It's perfectly designed around the pilots' abilities and zipping around diving through windows and popping up onto roofs to flank enemy pilots is fun, fun, fun. Titans are well-balanced in that they have open thoroughfares to duke it out in and at least one hardpoint you can fit a Titan into, but plenty of blindspots on/in the buildings for pilots to escape or make attacks of opportunity. It's just great fun all around. Then you have Fractured. I hate this map. I really do. Remember all that fun you had parkouring around? Let's throw that out the window and put in acres of open fields where you become fodder for long-range weapons (I would love the ability to slide after sprinting in this game) or Titans. The imbalance becomes clear in late game where Titans are stomping all over the map fighting each other and either ignoring pilots or splattering them when they're forced into the open and have 0 cover or means of escape besides cloaking. The buildings become useful only for camping objectives, since they're too far apart or too tall/short to parkour between. Suddenly most combat is taking place on the ground or in narrow corridors and the fun just stops. I realize there are many more maps coming in the release, but probably half of them will be of the "big and open" variety if the devs' choice to show us these 2 maps in the beta means anything at all. Now, before people start rating me boxes and going "you just WANT to dislike the game," read my post again. All of my complaints about the game stem from elements that detract from the amazing fun it is to play it. If Titanfall was instead called "Pilotfight" and was just 10v10 pilots parkouring around city maps killing each other and that's it, I would buy it in a heartbeat. But Titanfall seems to suffer from this "turd in the punchbowl" effect where these problems come along and just sour all the great fun you're having. Maybe these things will be addressed in the full release, maybe there will be a plethora of Titan and pilot unlocks that make Titan VS Titan combat fun and unpredictable, and allow pilots to move around open maps just as dynamically as they do in city maps. But as of now, I'm going to wait and see, and if nothing changes at release then this is something I'll pick up in 6 months when it's 50 percent off.
Hearing that you are outclassed three to one and winning the fight was amazing, people underestimate 40mm + damage core + critical hits
Going for headshots work well, even against titans if you give them enough shells.
turtling is for losers I always deal with titan-vs-titan as a skirmish sort of thing, taking a bit of health off then dashing away unscathed I don't go balls deep on someone unless I have a damage core or if they're distracted/damaged
In my last hour of playing beta, I discovered kicking someone kind of.. locks onto them. I kicked someone as they went to double jump ontop of me to dodge it, and my character wasn't having -ANY- of that, so his foot kind of just followed him in the air, then kicked him in the crotch and the guy ragdolled mid-jump.
I think there is some aim assist on guns as well.
I think there is some aim assist on guns as well.
Only the smart pistol
I think there is some aim assist on guns as well.
There is aim assist if you use a controller. I don't know why you would though. It's very minor apparently, when Angry Joe was streaming using a Xbox controller he said he couldn't notice any aim assist.
Where can I find a mexican VPN? :v:
Melee assist is the only thing i've noticed, my character leaped forward several meters once before snapping the neck of some dude.

We didn't really get to see enough to make a good judgement; the gameplay is fun, yeah, but the beta makes it look like a one trick pony because we didn't really get to use much Titan or Pilot stuff. Things will probably be a bit more balanced in the full release, I just hope the game actually has more to show than what we got since everything seemed limited.
fractured does kind of suck love the setting, but the flow sucks (for hardpoint at least)

Even with the limited variety in the beta, I found the combat to be pretty awesome frankly. Taking on two titans at once is possible and the game lets you do this, it's just hard. Good pilots and a good team is pretty amazing at taking down titans on foot, even the act of dropping a titan in itself is useful in fighting that numbers advantage. Then, the biggest problem with your problem, is the beta isn't representative of the number of titans and tools they'll get in the final release.

I love Fractured. If you know what you're doing, using the wallruns on the buildings and wherever else it's possible, you can get around pretty damn fast on it.

Nice video, but you should mention that this is a review of the beta.
Nice video, but you should mention that this is a review of the beta.
Kirby didn't get the updated script and recorded the stuff that we had down before I added Beta to it.
You know there's one thing that I've never done in the beta is try and hack a spectre. UNless you can't do that yet.
You can, and it's cool as shit. I wish I got it recorded so I could show you.
Is it me or is this song so fitting? Because might be great when you perform a parkour.
Yep. If you hack a spectre, not only does it change sides - it follows you around and becomes your best friend and then you name it Dave.
Yep. If you hack a spectre, not only does it change sides - it follows you around and becomes your best friend and then you name it Dave.
having a couple hacked spectres and jumping from rooftop to rooftop chasing the more campy-type players was great
My only question regarding specters is if you hack one in attrition, does the enemy team get attrition points for destroying them? If they do, seems more useful to outright destroy them instead since hacking takes a long time.
Just watched some beta gameplay. Every time they ejected from a titan as it blew up I was reminded of the final bossfight from Jak and Daxter. That vibe alone makes me want to buy this (if I rack up the money).
You know there's one thing that I've never done in the beta is try and hack a spectre. UNless you can't do that yet.
Sometimes it hacks squads of them at once. I had about 6 of them on me one time.
