that's only when you're in a titan and somebody's using the archer or a titan with the warheads is locking onto you
Showed up when I was on foot.
Showed up when I was on foot.
No it didn't. The smart pistol gives the victim no queue of any sort, be it a visual arrow on the screen or an audio queue, that they're being locked on to. At least some sort of beeping when you're getting locked on would be nice, kind of how you can hear a pilot scrambling around on your Titan when he jumps on a few seconds before the visual queue pops up
Went and preordered the game at gamestop since mexico origin kept giving me purchase errors. welp, atleast I get a poster
I ordered all the required electronics and shit to build a physical big red eject button to mash when the game is out. Will post progress here once I get the parts.

In the context of what you are doing, how are you going to map it to the game?
-snip- practically wanted what's posted right above me
There are videos someone apparently got it working on windows 7, but this will be more suitable http://www.roguegamegear.com/product/mek-fu/ it's purely concept at this point I'm pretty sure but it looks AWESOME, and has the built in keyboard now If it were a nice mechanical keyboard you could use that for the regular pilot movement then switch to the joysticks when you get in your titan. That would be to sick. picture of the mek-fu (sorry for sort of off topic, but could be related if controlling the game like this would be an option!)
You do realise the time to kill on the carbine is less than a second, right? The smart pistol is designed for stealth, stop exaggerating. You're acting like if someone is anywhere on your screen it snaps your view to them, when in realist you have to keep them in the centre 1/3 of the screen for 3 seconds, which isn't easy if they're moving around. You don't like instant kills. So I guess they should made it so titans can't one shot a pilot, or a headshot should only do 90% of your health, titans shouldn't be able to step on pilots to kill them, grenades should just be removed, melee should be nerfed, and the shotgun should have it's damage dropped.
Then people need to stop exaggerating that the lock-on time is more than it actually is. In reality it only takes about a second and a half. A gun fight can easily take that long when both people are jumping around. Also, the lock-on area is more like 2/3 of the screen, and it's easier to keep someone within 2/3 of your screen than it is to keep them in the dead center on crosshairs. If you fight someone that is actually good at maneuvering and good at FPS games, the smart pistol will win every time. Just because you didn't get killed by it much in the Beta doesn't mean anything. The beta was full of a mix of people with no matchmaking. For every decent player I encountered I probably encountered at least 30 terrible players. During the hundreds of matches I played during the beta, I only encountered 2 people that actually put up a good fight with their maneuvering/flanking/piloting/etc. Nearly everybody else I encountered would resort to the classic "strafe left/right" but wouldn't try to use any vertical movement at all. Very few people actually fired while in the air due to the classic conditioning that your accuracy is terrible in the air which doesn't apply in Titanfall. People would try to fire in bursts despite weapons having almost no spread/recoil. The beta was full of unskilled players. I come out as an ass talking like this, but that's always how betas are for games. Betas almost never have any kind of balancing/matchmaking/skill requirements in matches, or to even get into the beta in the first place. The chance of the 9 year old down the street getting in are just as high as the best FPS players in the world. Just like every other game, there will always be a large unskilled:skilled ratio of players. This applies to nearly all games of every genre. Just because the people using the smart pistol in the beta didn't kill you doesn't mean you should just dismiss it. If you think about the possibilities of the weapon in the hands of a decent player, rather than the average player you should realize how broken it will be/is.

Several times I was killed by a Smart Pistol in a situation where no Human player could have seen or shot me. One time I was clocked and hiding in a bush/tree, he found me and killed me. One time I was hidden in smoke and running, he found me and killed me. One time I died out of nowhere, seeing the killcam he found me simply by scanning the area and waiting for a lock on. I am on two fronts with the Smart Pistol, on one hand its a unique weapon and in many cases it would be more effective to use any other weapon to kill a Pilot. On the other hand however the times I have died in situations where I should not have been seen or even killed and it infuriates me. Its the only weapon I can die from that ticks me off. Also if you watch some "skilled" youtube players, like LvlCap, you can see how damn effective it is and he admits it. Even TotalBiscuit, who is not really good at FPS games, did extremely well and usually topped the scoreboard with the Smart Pistol. This has to say something abut the state of this Pistol.
I hope that there will be some sort of gadget that counters the Smart Pistol.
from the leak:
Run N Gun Kit The Run N Gun Kit allows you to fire small arms such as pistols and SMGs while sprinting.
I hope there will be a counter to THIS

Eugh. I mean, you have to literally slap the shit out of your crewmates. Thats a feature.
its not broken because the lock is literally like 3 seconds, you can kill someone any weapon in half that time. every time you get killed by it, youre either turned around or busy at something else (or just extremely bad aim). in both of those situations they could easily kill you with nearly anything in the game (especially when you said a really good player, why would they handicap themselves). its not broken and its used for it's intended purpose, to farm the grunts to cut off your titan time. disagree with me all you want, but the lock on is 3 seconds timed and is slower per lock for players than grunts and its more like 1/4 of your screen not 3/4ths. boo hoo you dont have to aim it correctly, so? the carbine and smg outclass it in every way unless you suck massive ass at aiming. like put the same situation together, you are turned around and dont notice someone is on your ass. whos going to kill you first? the guy with the carbine or the smart pistol. thats not even going with the range which the smart pistol is somewhat lacking. and in close range fights face to face any weapon would beat it since its inaccurate down the sights if you fire it quickly.
It is not 3 seconds. I downloaded the video so I could look at it frame by frame, just so I can prove that people are constantly exaggerating the lock time. At 20.7 seconds, or frame 621, the lock starts. At 22.3 seconds, frame 669, is when the lock turns red, indicating that if he were to pull the trigger it will kill the target. That is 1.6 seconds to get a kill lock. At 22.934 seconds, frame 688, is when he pulls the trigger. At 23.367 seconds, frame 701, is when he gets the kill. In total, It took from 20.7 to 23.367, or 2.667 seconds, for him to get the kill. Even including the lock time, delay between completed lock and firing, and the time it takes for the 3 bullets to fire, it is STILL less than 3 seconds. After getting the lock, he waited 0.634 seconds to pull the trigger. All of the times were gotten by downloading the video in MP4 format, opening it in MPC, using the left/right arrow to go frame by frame for when the white lines appear, when the hud turns red, when the ammo counter changes for the first shot fired, and the first frame the kill message appears. The video plays at 30 FPS, meaning times may be off by about +/-0.033 (repeating) seconds at most. Now that lock time is out of the way, next, screen coverage. My earlier estimate of 2/3 of the screen was off. I will admit that. I remember it tracking that far, however after looking at videos, despite the locking lines showing at much larger angles, the locks are simply falling off from where they were, not continuing to lock. However, I did realize that it actually is about 1/3 of the screen. Next, Weapon performance. Every gun (in the beta) is ridiculously accurate (exceptions being the LMG and the shotgun). The biggest difference between weapons were at ranges, however, the ranges where the difference is noticable is past 20m, which I believe is how far the smart pistol can track. Also, just because the smart pistol can lock, doesn't mean you HAVE to wait until it locks. I got plenty of kills with it just by simply firing quickly. The gun itself does significant damage still and shouldn't just be disregarded just because it isn't as much as other weapons. Just because you don't have a lock doesn't mean you are helpless. In the situation of "someone being on your ass", I believe the smart pistol will get the kill faster and easier. When chasing someone with a normal gun, you would need to keep them in the center of your screen to keep your shots landing. With the smart pistol, as long as they are in the middle third of your screen, you're set. Yes, in a 1v1 open field standing still no movement fight, normal guns will win. Of course they will. If they didn't then it would be ridiculous and there would be no reason to use anything else. However, people don't fight standing completely still in a game where you can double jump and run on walls. In (the games) reality, what is easier though? Keeping someone in the center of your screen for a total time of about 0.5-0.75 seconds it takes to kill with a gun? Or within the 1/3rd of your screen which would take about 1.8 seconds (assuming 0.2 second reaction time after lock) total time, while wall running, double jumping, etc? For the average player, obviously the smart pistol will be easier. THAT'S WHY IT'S A PROBLEM. Just because someone who is good at FPS games can kill faster than it takes for the pistol to lock, doesn't mean it's balanced well. I wallrun/jump constantly while firing my SMG at ranges I shouldn't and I still get kills before other people can kill me with normal guns. However, people using the Smart Pistol require almost no skill to get their kills no matter how well their target is playing. They could be wallrunning, jumping, weaving, whatever they want to do,but it won't be enough to combat a gun that has built in aimbot. I personally had no issue dealing with smart pistols during the beta. What was irritating was watching killcams of players killing when they can't aim at all. Seeing someone jumping off a series of walls, only to be instantly killed despite their swift movements, is ridiculous. What is the point of a fast moving FPS if you have guns that can cancel out the quick movement? Or why is a gun like that not frowned upon more when PC gamers will sometimes laugh because of controllers needs for aim-assist in other fast-paced games?
Anybody competent will be able to kill people much faster with a carbine anyways, so I don't really see the problem with the smart pistol. Cloak also makes it take three times as long to lock, so there's that.
We can debate this until we're all blue in the face it its not going to change anything. Can we not argue about the smart pistol anymore until the game is released and they've adjusted it.
So I got a Xbox One beta instead of a PC beta. If I write a support ticket to EA, will they fix this?
holy shit you guys are writing giant walls of text over one gun

Speaking of smart pistol I've just read on reddit that when you get punched by a Titan, three hearts pop out. Smart pistol takes three lock-ons. Just a neat little thing.
but the smartgun headshots doesn't it
Not on Pilots.
can we PLEASE go like 1 page without mentioning the smart pistol? every time I see new posts in the thread it's more like this:
based on what I have seen from these arguments it seems to be there is as much for the Smart pistol as there is against. So we have no definitive answer here and we won't be able to GET one until Titan-fall comes out and has been out for roughly two weeks, which should be enough time for the core player base to get a feel for the game and for matchmaking systems to fully sort everyone out. THIS is when we can see how Overpowered the Smart pistol is/isn't and only after we have gathered enough in game data with suitably matched players can an assessment be made and balance patches be deployed appropriately. Digging through the beta file, footage and working out down to the millisecond numbers isn't going to do JACK SHIT until we see the final product. and arguing about it here isn't going to change it either. We jsut don't have enough viable data to make a proper assessment. Now in the hopes of getting the ball rolling on something ELSE! Who here wonders if there will be more than three types of titan??
