It's not a one-piece leak, it's been assembled from smaller leaks over the course of almost a decade. There's no big archive somewhere with all of it. I assembled it painstakingly one asset at a time from dozens of sources. It's me-exclusive. I am the only person with it. The original source is me, and nobody else is going to get it unless I have the OK to give it out, sorry.
Ah, Valve leak culture, never change.
But it's true, I've spent almost every day putting it together for over 6 years, re-making missing assets, re-making maps by hand from reference videos down to unit accuracy. It's something I've been doing with almost all of my free time for most of my childhood. I WANT to give it to people, I'm just not sure I CAN.
No, that's fine and all, I'm glad you put effort into your work and take pride in it but you should try and word your posts a bit less elitist and all if you know what I mean because it very much does encourage the stereotype that is "Valve leak culture" and it also makes you seem very elitist/superior. But I completely understand that that wasn't your intention and why you aren't giving it out so no pressure, no one's forcing you to. Keep it up man, I have no doubt the entire thing looks great
BM soundtrack isn't bad but it's FAAAAAAAAR from being truthful to the HL vibe. Can't blame the sods though, Bailey's work isn't easy to reproduce.
Jonathan Coulton wrote another Portal song for Lego Dimensions http://www.jonathancoulton.com/2015/09/25/new-portal-song-for-lego-dimensions/ You can listen to it here, just scroll down to "New Folder" and hit play by "You Wouldn't Know" http://www.jonathancoulton.com/store/downloads/
Doesn't seem to be there anymore right now? No song called You wouldn't know, and only 2 songs in the new folder.
That was a fast snip.
It's because I hadn't read the part you have in bold yet. :)
Well afaik, nobody got into jail for leaking the very source code you're using.
There have been a few leaks, most aren't hard to get, like the full source 07 leak, a lot of people have it, and includes a bunch of Portal code.
something i do intend to do though is post real documentation for portal development. Shader/VMT syntax, etc. I've been writing mapping and material documentation for all of portal's undocumented features the entire time I've been doing this and they should be up on the VDC soon. [editline]26th September 2015[/editline] The last time someone gave out pre-release material they went to jail and employees got fired. I don't want that to happen. I'm also friends with a lot of Valve employees that weren't involved and I'm afraid it will be assumed they were involved and they'll get unjustly fired :( I don't see how I'm being elitist, it's just that there could potentially be jobs on the line here.
why dont you just ask valve if you can release what you've got

let's not forget this classic people used to think i was weird for having this as a ringtone i laughed at them
why dont you just ask valve if you can release what you've got
Hey Valve, I have a lot of leaked content from your commercial projects, can I release it for free?
Hey Valve, I have a lot of leaked content from your commercial projects, can I release it for free?
To be fair, It's not like valve hasn't ever given it away for free before. Though Valve does have plenty of reason for concern if the full source was released, I'd wait for the "complete" Source 2 to come out officially before asking about leaked versions of legacy projects like Portal.
That's what happened with hl1 beta too. Why would they care about their ancient crap? Why would anyone care?
I'm surprised they don't release MORE of that ancient stuff. Hell, the original engines to Quake 1 AND 2 are both open-source now, so unless they simply have lost all that old work over the years, I don't see why they would care whether or not to release it. Plus, the community always loves to see how their favorite games developed over time into what they are today (or at least I do, anyway). Anyone else think it'd be cool if say, after Sven Co-op is released to Steam, Valve decides to just fully release GoldSrc to the public? The engine is so ancient by this point, the only people who would use it would be either people who want to update any old HL1 mods, indie devs, or people who just like to tinker around with shit, like myself.

I archive and fix up leaked content from valve games, both fan-made and official. My archive is totally open to anybody who wants something from it. Mainly because the leak community has a terrible hoarding problem and very nice chunks of content die forever because someone decided to never give it to anyone. My archive is to make sure that never happens, but it's also there so I can share this cool stuff with everyone. But if you want to be a total jerk about it then y'know that's fine. What you're doing is completely fine. It's extremely unlikely that anything bad would happen if you were to release some of what you have. Moral is: don't show off your cool stuff if you don't ever plan to release it. It's extremely dickish and rude.
Probably has a lot to do with how Valve works, it takes a lot of effort to sort through old working files and clear out anything that could be a security or copyright risk, they also would potentially loose money since nobody would buy HL1/goldsrc anymore. Since the effort required, why would anybody at Valve take it upon themselves to do that? It's work that isn't directly benefiting the company. You're always free to try and ask somebody at valve for why they don't do it, most employees are available in some degree or another on there. Usually it's: first name first letter of last name @valvesoftware.com Though I think a number are different, like laidlaw.

From the sounds of things, they still have a lot of their old stuff, but it's just kind of stuffed away in a big mess where nobody has to see it, so actually finding all the pieces of what you want is hard enough. I'm sure Splinks could probably tell you a few stories from when he went spelunking for the beta L4D1 survivors...
Anyone else think it'd be cool if say, after Sven Co-op is released to Steam, Valve decides to just fully release GoldSrc to the public? Back then, the response was to the effect of "it can be done pretty easily, but the sheer amount of cheaters that QuakeWorld Team Fortress got hit with back in the day after Q1's open-sourcing is giving us cold feet because we don't want to destroy the CS 1.6 community". Who knows if the response would be different nowadays?
Yeah cool. I archive and fix up leaked content from valve games, both fan-made and official.
That's cool. Do you have like a formal download page, or is this an ask-and-i'll-check-if-its-out-the-back kind of thing?
You add me on steam/pm me on facepunch here and ask for a specific thing or two I don't like hosting it all on a huge download page (plus no clue where I'd do that) because I don't know who made the majority of this stuff and I'd feel like a prick for hosting a download to some content that isn't mine Also it's a fucking massive pain to sift through it all. I've never been organised it and it's spread out over like 4 external harddrives and 3 thumb drives. Actually half of the archive is cut off cuz it's on a harddrive of a now dead PC. So that kinda blows Slightly related news: I have a really nice leaked version of Half Life 2 I've fixed up over the years. It's like 3 different patches/projects slammed together to make something that will work flawlessly on most machines. Very little crashes and such. I really hope I can release it one day

There's a forum for people who are fans of Weezer, a band with an extremely huge backlog of unreleased songs there were some FUCKERS that proved they had extremely rare tracks and never released them we should ban for it
This is the best thing. They even got J.K Simmons too.
I love the black mesa closet at the end
This is the best thing. They even got J.K Simmons too.
I don't care what anyone says, I consider this to be 100% canon. It's just so good.
I don't care what anyone says, I consider this to be 100% canon. It's just so good.
This is the new Valve single-player experience we've all been waiting for
Wow, GLaDOS in that sounds like a weird mix of P1 and P2 version of herself. More robotic like in P1 but with the same quirky humor of P2.
I kinda felt bad for her at the end, though. This time we really did just barge in and fuck her up The announcer sounds drunk too
Somehow Space Core just sputtering out memes just works. Edit: feel the need to clarify that it works because the Space Core is a barely functional AI with the IQ of a pebble not to mention an annoyance to everyone around it
I love the black mesa closet at the end
More interestingly it means the events of Half Life also took place in this universe, meaning there must also at one point have been Lego Gordon Freeman and the gang, Lego striders, Lego zombies, you get the picture.
