ew wood
wood finishes are sexy you homo
Hey yall, I was recently lucky enough to get access to the INFRA beta. To help out the developers, I've been recording myself playing through it and posting it to my channel. If you're interested in watching it, I've uploaded part of it so far. They removed the story elements for the beta, but there's still spoilers for the puzzles and levels, so don't watch if you want that kept secret still. Also, I'm not the best player, so I have trouble with some of the puzzles. Help would be appreciated lol. Just thought I'd share it with you guys, as I'm really excited about INFRA, and would like to help the developers as much as I can.
At least Portal 2 got rid of its "Cake is a lie" jokes. Oh yeah, for those who watch the CSGO Dreamhack tournament, there were people holding signs with "We still want Half Life 3 GabeN!" written on them.
There were no cake is a lie "jokes" in portal. It was just some writing on a wall written by a crazy person. It was never a joke until people repeated it ad nauseam.
I'm not sure if this is new or not, but the SWAT guys in the 2015 version of NH2, aside from having new models, have all of Alyx's zombie dynamic interaction animation moves so they can bash back zombies, grapple with them, etc. The thing is they also use Alyx's pistol dynamic interactions, and when they try to do that one thing that Alyx does when she knocks back a zombie and one shots them in the head with her pistol, the gun model positioning is kind of messed up. You can see them in action in the video below at 58:06

Wow, all those custom textures look awful [editline]2nd November 2015[/editline] And they made everything darker, for some reason. Whereas the house is somewhat lit up in the prologue of the original mod, in the above video it's a pitch black silhouette that you can barely make out. Scary!
New Black Mesa crossbow model is looking good! *new crossbow*
Comparison (Old VS New) if you're wondering. [t]https://d.maxfile.ro/zqdbkjjlvl.gif[/t] I say it looks more faithful.
"Cake is a lie" was supposed to be an eerie metaphor, meant to try to unnerve you, GLaDOS saying "no, no, we won't kill you" while hovering over the neurotoxin button. Then the community shat all fucking over it turning it into a forced meme that's funny because they say so. At least combustible lemons was the writers trying to be funny. "Hey, you know what sounds kind of funny? An old dude yelling about blowing a house up with lemons." And it caught on. To an annoying degree, tbh, but it's a lot more tolertable than "cake is a lie." I can see why combustible lemons was funny. "Cake is a lie" never had a reason to be funny.
Well, to be fair, 'combustible lemons' was partially trying to be funny, and partially showing that he was going prematurely senile and dying due to the lunar rock fumes. In the context of the game, it's light-hearted, but what he's saying and how he sounds on either side of that little snippet of speech makes it a melancholy moment.

Lol I just realized many of the Russian sound files for male citizen are mislabeled, with many files having the names of other files. So for example gottareload01.wav says "Sturmovik!" (Ground Attack Aircraft), gunship02 and hacks01 are the files for "Hacks!", and hacks02 and headcrab01 say "Headcrab!". As far as I can tell, nearly the entire folder is like this.
wood finishes are sexy you homo
They make things look like antiques, not like modern weapons. There's really no good reason to use wood anymore. I suppose it works with the crossbow in Half-Life, since it might be a prototype rather than a commercial product.

[sp]same argument can be brought up with the extra tau cannon in the armory but that could easily be considered a developer oversight[/sp]
I never said that wood stocks aren't made anymore. I just meant that wood is impractical compared to modern materials & that the only reason it's used is to make them look like older than they actually are.
same argument can be brought up with the extra tau cannon in the armory but that could easily be considered a developer oversight
By my count there are only 2 instances of each & the gluon gun, but that must be a developer oversight since it contradicts your theory.
snip, I'm late

I love how he runs blindly through Sand Traps & says it's awful, never mentioning the fact that it's a big game of The Floor Is Lava. This leads me to believe he's a doufus.
Is that a serious channel, or is just some guy fucking around?
he is NOT fucking around
That dude doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. Shotgun is one of game's most powerful weapons when used up close and personal, and paced properly. If you use it wisely, in some cases, it will outdamage crossbow(which is guaranteed 100 hp damage on hit). AR2 IS one of most accurate weapons, despite being automatic, but only if you don't hold down fire button. He didn't even comment on SMG1 grenade launcher which is a very deadly and pinprick-accurate weapon in hands of skilled player. SMG1 Grenades have no spread, by the way. Bugbait is useful more than grenades against combines, as it stuns them for quite awhile. Don't forget that antlions melee attack ALWAYS instakills combines. Overall, stun-n-gun strategy can be used all the way in the city 17 chapters to deal with small but dense groups of combines without taking ANY damage. Ravenholm clearly presents all the dangers before you even have to get near them! How's that a trial and error gameplay? Overall I'd say he ran through the game, rushing and not really taking his time to inspect anything, using only one strategy of run and shoot and then saying the game is 'boring' and 'forces you to take damage'.
Not to mention half of the video is in fullbright for some reason.
I never got the idea of "rushing the enemy" in Half-Life. Whenever I'm against enemies with guns I hide behind cover all the time.
I never got the idea of "rushing the enemy" in Half-Life. Plus, the feeling of running straight at OTA soldier while blasting him with a gun gives you a rush of your own.

I'm going to have to grab some of these and go through them again.
Finally, I can replay Mistake of Pythagoras and not have it utterly break halfway through the game ever again.

There's also going to be a model change for the Gluon Gun (Old vs. New).
The new model has a lot of detail in the texture. Far more than the old one ever did. The old model had pseudo-detail. 50% of the obvious texture detail on the old one just came from noise in the specular. It doesn't look good, nor does it look like something made in a lab. And it was very low res, you can see the blurriness in the scratches/dirt. The new one has a very subtle and nice sheen to it, and a much cleaner, more actually metallic look - much more along the lines of what you'd expect from something that likely cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make. Additionally, I don't think the texture is 100% complete yet. I believe it still has further work planned on it. I wouldn't knock it till you've tried it, though. It doesn't look so favourable in that small image but in game, everyone on the team agrees the new Gluon is a lot better. It's also much higher poly, too.
Does anyone here frequent thinkingwithportals.com mapping community? And if so do you know what's going on with their site? I was looking into BEEMod after a long time of not playing Portal 2 and of course with my luck, the place to download it seems to be acting up. http://forums.thinkingwithportals.com/downloads.php?view=detail&df_id=2781 This is the download location but the site seems to load and then show nothing at all.
