Anyone would get hyped for fake websites that indicated a sequel to a (popular) franchise being in production. It's not a Fallout exclusive phenomenon and I'm pretty sure it's happened before. Doesn't really knock me as being the most hyped game in previous years however.
How would you hear much of anything before a game is even announced?
you're in a half-life thread and you're asking this
seriously dude
MGSV wasn't really all that hyped outside the internet tbh. I haven't heard one thing about it and it's already forgotten about, meanwhile all I've been hearing the past 3 weeks is all Fallout
TPP deserves more fuss :frown:, it's a great game

The first half was a great game. The second half, though...

Hey, in the games or any materials, was he ever really called D0G? Afaik in the HL2 subtitles it's "Dog".

Texture and some dev commentary

Fair enough, but to be fair there is a difference in being hyped for the sequel to a game that ends on a cliff hanger and the next game in a series of stand alone games.
Hey, in the games or any materials, was he ever really called D0G? Afaik in the HL2 subtitles it's "Dog".
There's writing on his chassis that says DØG. Since Ø isn't a key on most keyboards and essentially means Null, people substitute it with Zero.
The subtitles say "dog" because that's the pronunciation, putting "DØG" might confuse people, specifically the deaf who do not hear the word.
i have another idea to add onto the fallout 4 thing; fallout 4 was probably the most hyped game since the last few years, and upon release, the game was not the equivalent to the citizen kane of the 21st century. sure, it was very good, but not extremely good. and half life 2 episode 2 wasn't far off from the release date of the last fallout game in the series. so if half life 3 was released and was around as good or better than fallout 4, what's there to worry about? the fans didn't respond negatively at all about fallout 4 after it was released.
like i said before, just being desperate, but hey, who isn't?
I didn't think Fallout 4 was going to be released until December or January?
Besides, the problem isn't with the fans, it's with the developers whom small minds call "Valve"
Like an article I read said about Mark Laidlaw, explained...
"Players are no longer looked upon enthusiastically. They are now potential violators of artists’ spaces. This makes it looks like Laidlaw wants as much distance as possible between himself and consumers. What I’m hearing is, “Don’t touch Half-Life, don’t look at Half-Life, don’t even think about Half-Life.” '

Parts of the script were leaked December 2013, but most people didn't believe the leaks. Turned out to be true though.
[editline]14th November 2015[/editline]

Really? We've known the release date for months.
Made this out of boredom. Tell me if I should make proper version.

So I found out that the Nightmare House 2 SWAT NPC models have all of Alyx's animations, not just the ones for dynamic interactions. Wanting to see how those animations could be worked into normal combat, I decided to make this map.

That video makes me understand why Valve decided to make the Combine so dumb. Shooting at walls looks really, really boring.
i cant help cracking up at the fucking cartwheeling soldier at 0:11

Don't you know? They're Breen's Angels.
I wouldn't mind have those mixed with the behaviour of the HGrunts of HL1. I mean, almost all the npcs in Source stand still or run too late when a grenade falls next to them.
so I replayed opposing force again and for the first time I'm actually wondering if a 22 year-old could really have done all of that adventure
jesus christ i'm getting old :ohno:
Adrian is a USMC (or marine? I just forgot) soldier, that even if he was misteriously ascended by Gman, he was prepared like the rest of their partners.
I mean, Tower (the black guy with the SAW from the start) made it on their own, then found a group/other soldiers left behind stacked together and died at the Pit Worm zone.
(this is totally fanfiction, but screw that)If the H.E.C.U. had worked next to the scientists and guards, I bet the losses would have been minimal (almost all are fuck ups for not knowing what is that thing/what is happening).

For some reason Alyx has Combine Assassin animations for flipping left and right.
I bet Alyx assimilated all of the Combine Assassins' powers, rendering them thereafter unusable to the Combine, right after she decapitated their last remaining Cremator.

Holy shit. Retcon this now, VALVe!

According to Blue Shift, standard procedure was for the HECU to work with the BMRF Security. But I guess Gordon wouldn't be truly tested if he was evacuated an hour in, so I like to think Gman changed the orders. It would prevent Gordon from making an early escape, and would give him another very powerful foe to take on. It would also explain why the military is inexplicably diverting significant strength into killing near-harmless lab personnel and security guards.

i always thought HECU was killing lab personnel to stop the spread of information to the outside world, and that they didnt realize that the resonance cascade was spreading outside the research facility. is that incorrect?

But when you think about it, it doesn't make a lot of sense. The lab personnel already know a shitload of things that aren't meant to be spread outside the facility, what's the point in killing them only after something goes wrong? All the soldiers killing them are seeing the same thing they saw anyway, and arguably the soldiers are under less control than the lab personnel who must've signed a tree's worth of legal papers and NDA's.

obviously they then send in more soldiers to kill the first wave of soldiers. and then they send in a third wave to kill the second wave. repeat ad infinitum :downs:
I was reading a bit about HECU early today actually and apparently a couple of Marines talk about how they thought they were being trained for something big about to happen at Black Mesa. Which would mean someone must have had foreknowledge of what was to come, IE GMan.

Damn, I'd actually love a mini-campaign involving the combine soldiers with Alyx's animations, I dont know if it would be boring or pretty fun, but anything other than the combine generically running towards you and shooting would add variety most likely.
