Happy new year, Half-Life thread! And what better way is there to ring in the new year than with some classic Half-Life ASCII art?
An ARG has been discovered in the 2015 Steam Winter Sale. On the OFF CHANCE THAT IT IS RELATED TO A VALVE GAME, discuss it the the VALVE/STEAM GENERAL DISCUSSION thread. DO NOT discuss it here until further data is known.
Thank you, and have a very safe and productive day!

For those still playing bingo, prepare your "Marc lays down the law" square.
Goddamnit, if only he had released the models I would have gladly re-rigged all of them to Black Mesa's new bone structure.
Is there an actual bingo card for this? Otherwise it needs to be made for next time.
Yep, thats me.
Damn, i really hope something comes out of this.
Those models are the reason i bought BM:S.
Hilariously ironic.
Hey, I recently made a ModDB page for my HL2 mod I've mentioned on here several times before, Half-Life 2: Genetic Variation.
http://www.moddb.com/mods/genetic-variation
Check it out, I think and hope you'll like it.
I was tired of making other things so I made a Half-life styled ambient song. What do you think?

Damn I actually really liked that, you captured Kelly Bailey's style surprisingly well. You should do more.

I will once I get a new idea.
TIL that this goo waterfall is harmless, and you can swim up and down it if you want

Also, if you dive down to the bottom of the pit, you can swim up and around to the beginning, through the same path the barrels go (to give the illusion of infinite barrels floating down the river)

a++ level design
As far as I know that was always possible.

i also did this but unfortunately it didn't take me to space
But it's a paradox! The time you spent finding those bugs and the smugness you feel add to the experience of Half Life IN ADDITION to the main game!
Now-a-days you'd need to whip out the plastic and pay $5.99 to add to your gaming experience!
Yeah I once fell in the goo pit and survived the way back. Didn't even reload.

I would like to know how you would do it with the original technology (pre-Steam version) to keep the performance while making it looking good.
*Yes, yes, I know your idea is just adding more trigger_hurt/making them harm more*
I recall reading somewhere that some of the HL maps were developed in just under a day or so. That must be one of those maps.

what if to make pPhysics entity/npc that swims on water surface ([sp]npc_jesus[/sp]) moving by path_corner
something like npc_blob so you dont need to use shitton of entities

i'd be 100% okay with it if this was actually in a half-life game

I like how Marphy rated his own video informative.
Also, how in the fuck does he keep finding all of these old files and animations? Guy's like Sherlock Holmes but for Valve games.
I like how Marphy rated his own video informative.
Marphy rates everything informative, because truly, everything that has ever been is informative in one way or another.
The informative text that you are informatively reading is informing your brain that you are reading an informative text about informative things.

That was waaay too informative for my liking.

Marphy Black is a personal Noah's Arc of Half Life. When civilization ends of it's own hubris Marphy will remain. He will be worshiped as a god by those that come after us with his stories of Gordon Freeman, the one free man. Even as the earth crumbles beneath his feet he will float throughout the universe un-ending, conversing only with beings of pure energy over the secrets hidden within the Dreamcast edition of Half Life. And with the last gasp of breath before the universe goes to complete entropy, he will re-create the cut sound effects of various Half Life 2 Beta npc's.
I knew from some years ago that at the place where is the second ceiling turret in Half-Life, at Office Complex, there was a shotgun with ammo, and a lever to deactivate the turret. However, I only saw it at Hammer and in game that the only way to reach that place was through noclip. But turns out that in a previous level, there's an actual path to it.

So yea, the BMS mappers only did right their job. Not as a "tribute" to that "cut" place, but as an actual alternate path.
I'm ashamed, how I can consider myself a HL expert after playing all these years without knowing this?
