What Kojima was to Metal Gear, like wise Laidlaw was to HL. You couldn't imagine either of them without them writing the story. Chet and Erik and good writers, but I wouldn't want to see HL3 become a comedy like Portal 2 was. Apparently if they were indeed working on it, Marc had no part on it at all. [sp]all those people that said the gearbox expansions were not canon, I guess that makes HL3 not canon anymore![/sp]
I hope they see through Marc Laidlaw's work of the story and not botching it.
Because the average video game enthusiast operates on a mental timescale different to the one Valve develops video games on.
Average video game enthusiast's mental timescale... You mean the tiny rock that rolls around the empty space over and over again? What comes to newest info about Source 2 (a bit old info probably, but people tend to miss stuff like this surprisingly easily): http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/09/09/dota-2-now-valves-first-ever-source-2-game http://www.dota2.com/reborn/part3?l=english
Hey uh I guess I should probably post this here in case someone still has blind faith or wants to get mad about more hoaxes https://www.reddit.com/r/HalfLife/comments/40hxb1/its_time_the_fans_know_what_is_going_on/ https://archive.is/1xWGU
:snip:
Fake.
not saying anything is anything, but
Update: Valve just sent me a PM to remove the post. Sorry folks who didn't get to read it.
if this is true, odd. maybe valve just got tired of all the hoaxes and bullshittery surrounding hl3 with people saying "i playtested hl3" or "i work at valve hl3 is cancelled"
You know it is fake when they use Alex instead of Alyx.
You know it is fake when they use Alex instead of Alyx.
so far, every person that claimed that they worked for valve and playtested hl3 or something has spelled something incorrectly and/or had shitty grammar
Aaand what do you know: https://www.reddit.com/r/HalfLife/comments/40jbwh/leak_is_fake_mods_account_has_been_compromised/
You know it is fake when they use Alex instead of Alyx.
And Gordon is Gordan. Guys, seriously.... For fuck sake, How hard it can be? :v:
None of that 'leak' sounds even slightly plausible.

I mean if it wasn't canon, then why did they go with Black Mesa being nuked which wasn't even an idea until OPF?
What was the "leak" the guy posted? the post is gone now and I'm curious what he said
I think you get to play as the G-Man or something similar to him with the bookkeeper system...
:unimpressed: If you're gonna make a hoax at least put some effort into it.
:unimpressed: If you're gonna make a hoax at least put some effort into it.
its like a 10 year old's fanfiction

Its kind of funny.
I thought the idea was that their canonicity was ambiguous and up to interpretation.
I thought the idea was that their canonicity was ambiguous and up to interpretation.
THEYRE REAL TO ME DAMN IT [sp]Shephard come back to me[/sp]
is opposing force canon guys
Since Calhoun is in HL2, I'd say at least Blue Shift is canon
I always thought of it as "Canon until proven otherwise"
A minor bit of news among the tide of hoaxes going around today, but worth posting: Laidlaw's corporate bio on the Valve site has been replaced with a quote from HL2's All-Knowing Vort.

Just like how they tried to make a portal game without portals or the deaf movements for Alyx and D0g.
It's entirely plausible that other races like Race X came through too and didn't succeed like the other alien races. So I like to consider the expansions canon until official stated otherwise.
I remember Laidlaw stating years ago that Race X was the only part of Gearbox's games that was officially 100% not canon. [editline]January 12, 2016[/editline] Here, found it:
Race X was purely a Gearbox creation that doesn't figure at all in my thinking about the world. Understand, they wanted to come up with a set of creatures that would create gameplay they knew how to make. They could have been making an original title or an add-on for some other franchise, and plugged Race X into that--the reason being that they had gameplay they wanted to explore and needed the freedom of their own race of critters to conduct those experiments with. If Gearbox had kept making HL games, I suppose we might have seen these threads develop. Since Black Ops are not a Gearbox creation per se, but an opportunistic use of existing real-life elements, I don't see how the idea of canon applies to them.
I never liked Race X anyway sounds like a rejected x-men arc
No need to be racexist, man.

[editline]January 12, 2016[/editline] Here, found it:
Except what he says there does not make them non-canon. Here's merely saying that when he's thinking of what to do next with Half-life, he isn't necessarily going to take Race X into consideration. They're still canon, just he isn't going to base things on them, so they exist but they're not likely to have much relevance again. The expansions are canon, they were made with Valve's permission and help. Games are canon unless stated otherwise, not the other way around.
