If you look at Half-Life 2 with an objective and abstract view, it's nothing but cliches and tropes from other futuristic dystopian science fiction.
The difference is that you're a super cool scientist from the last trope-filled adventure and it feels like an improvised solo journey/war rather than a shit "uprising from totalitarianism" story
If you look at Half-Life 2 with an objective and abstract view, it's nothing but cliches and tropes from other futuristic dystopian science fiction.
I for one have never heard of a story about largely american-populated eastern european city ran by aliens stationed at Serbian Parliament building.
Does anybody remember how exactly HL2 was broken after the May 2010 update? I think scripts got broken, graphical artifacts appeared. Oh, crap, or was it 2009?

Oh, crap, or was it 2009?
again, you can download the least broken HL2 as an SDK 2006 mod, build 4044, dated 3 December 2009, the last version on the original codebase.
again, you can download the least broken HL2 as an SDK 2006 mod, build 4044, dated 3 December 2009, the last version on the original codebase.
Thank you, but the idea is to get it the most broken it ever was.
Who is cleaning the place from the dust and keeps electricity running? It's hundreds or thousands years we're talking about. [sp]and how come that potato didnt rot down into nothingess[/sp] I would be totally okay with all this Portal 2 weirdness if it wasn't connected to HL2 universe, this underground place irratetes me espeically. It just doesn't make any sense no matter which way you look at it. It couldnt survive so well, it wouldn't be lit up, story-wise test are borderline insane and played with a straight face (MANTISMEN), you just start to question what the hell Borealis was doing in this funhouse, why these 2 games are connected in what seems to be a pivotal plot point for episodes. Underground section of Portal 2 just pissed me off.
The electricity was from a massive reactor (which is even mentioned in the first few minutes of the game), Personality Spheres maintained the facility while GLaDOS was offline, and Aperture built things to last a very long time. There's nothing wrong with the Mantismen, even in Portal 1 Aperture had tested the portal gun with chickens. The tests being crazy is the entire point of them; Aperture were all about performing insane 'tests' no would else would have even tried, with the vast majority of them ending up being complete failures for what should have been obvious reasons. When their ideas actually did work however, they created something that potentially outclassed what Black Mesa had.
The reason they set portal 2 so far away from HL time was the regret of tying them together.
No, they were set apart apart to avoid the characters, events and the games plot directly interacting with each other. It's so that regardless of what happens in one of the games or series, it doesn't cause any problems for the other. Why would you even think they "regret tying them together"?
Yeah I doubt they 'regret' tying them together for many reasons. One of which is the fact that Cave Johnson cant go 30 seconds in an hour long rant without shouting something random about their competition with Black Mesa. Personally, I love it.
Why would you even think they "regret tying them together"?
Because he wishes they hadn't.

Whats the best order to play Half Life, timeline wise. I was thinking this order, HL1 Blue Shift OpFor Portal HL2 HL2EP1 HL2Ep2 Portal2 But I don't know how correct that would be.
Portal and Portal 2 shouldnt be in the list, as both games can take place without the events of the others.
Portal and Portal 2 shouldnt be in the list, as both games can take place without the events of the others.
It's the same Universe, so I'd like to play them all through together. Are they in the correct place?
IMO game release order works really well [editline]4th February 2016[/editline] Portal and P2 are last
Make sure you play Decay after Blueshift.
Playing Decay in singleplayer can be a real bitch though because Gearbox never bothered to finish the companion AI, thus making them almost completely useless (as usual in HL1). You're better off playing it co-op with a friend.
Well it was made to be played in co-op with a friend, so I imagine it would be better that way.
It's playable by yourself, but kinda frustrating.

It sucks because you can almost beat the entire game alone until the end, where you really need a hand with the aliens. 99% of the times the bot tries to kill vorts and Agrunts with the RPG AT CLOSE DISTANCE, killing herself.
hide the bot in a corner where she can't see anything, and just pretend you're alone. switch bot when you're low on ammo and hp
I remember reading somewhere at the (now offline?) mod forum that the team originally wanted to add the Barney AI, but didn't have time for it.
If I'm remembering that thread correctly, they said that they discovered unfinished code suggesting that the AI was originally supposed to have a basic following ability but with way better navigation compared to the barneys and scientists. Even though you'd still have to solve all the puzzles by yourself, that still would've made shit a lot easier than having to constantly switch between both bloody characters just to get them both from point A to goddamn point B.
There are still voices for Gina and Colette in the files and stuff in the sentences.txt file too. [T]http://puu.sh/mWQFl/133279d4b8.png[/T] You can get the PC port here if you want to listen to them.
The bot speaks when it gets hurt or kills someone, that isn't new.
just noticed this on the zombie security guard in Black Mesa well done lads
I'm trying to replay Portal 2, but for some reason the game just doesn't boot up. It goes 'Preparing to Launch' then closes immediately. Tried verifying the cache and all that but nothing helps.
I dont know what I'm supposed to be seeing at the security guard pic
I dont know what I'm supposed to be seeing at the security guard pic
I think it's the glock in the holster. The texture sheet of barney's model is strewn over it. When I look at the grip, I can see the texture for the bottom of his shoe!
PROSPEKT has been delayed to the 18th of february, because the author doesn't want to be obscured by Steam Sales : http://steamcommunity.com/app/399120/discussions/0/412446292760527105/
what can I say, we wanted HL3, we get Opposing Force 2 done by a one-man army coming out of nowhere.
what can I say, we wanted HL3, we get Opposing Force 2 done by a one-man army coming out of nowhere.
making the protagonist shepard doesn't automatically make it OF2. besides it's been done way years ago (and it's actually decent)
